Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Got 2 on Friday

JEDI!!!  SAHHHHWEEEEET FIND ON THE IVORY- TAKE IT TO A COUPLE OF AUCTION HOUSES FOR AN APPRAISAL AND TO SEE THEIR SELLING FEES... THAT IS THE WOW FACTOR I AM LOOKING FOR FELLOW FLORIDIAN!  CONGRATS ON THE JEWELRY TOO!  I AM PUMPED FOR YA! DAMN!
So I went to an auctioneer's caravan of facilities this morning until noon--- 21 units!
1st facility(uncle bob's SS) had about 50 people (no kidding) and crap went for 275+++ ugh.  supposed to have 6 units- 3 paid up.
2nd facility(uncle bob's SS) supposed to have 9 units, 4 doors were cut open and every one went for 300+!!!! WTF... i decided to hold onto my 400 and save it for a much smaller crowd--- figured the reason for the crowds is they search storage auctions online and get our local autioneers website which lists their upcoming caravans- sign up and get emails of upcoming auctions=tons of people=overpriced lockers.  believe me- today's lockers were not that impressive.

HERES A TIP- IF YOU WANT INEXPENSIVE UNITS, GO OLD SCHOOL SEARCHING FOR STORAGE FACILITIES THAT DON'T USE AUCTIONEERS (PUBLIC SELF STORAGE, the big orange P, uses their district managers to caravan once a month and handle the bidding wars=boring bidding not trying to skyrocket the price for a cut of the profits=more money you and i save!)

A note about our local auctioneers that irritate me- they make us form a line and after only 10 or so people see the locker she starts the bidding at 100.00!   its usually up to 25 by the time everyone sees it...  anyone else have any thoughts or ideas--???

(going to repost this in another topic btw)

Thanks again jedi!!! Btw planning on picking up my 3rd locker tomorrow. Been visualizing a 10x10ninja super clean and stacked high with Tupperware bins and neat boxes.  Will take some kids toys furniture too but looking for mystery with a lot of boxes.

eBay / Re: Anyone have success selling clothes on ebay?
« on: June 26, 2011, 01:32:14 AM »
@ mr A.  I am totally going to try that one about the flyer... I seem to have a good amount of clothes... and did I know Fridays for yard sales are HUGE?
hey what do u all think about these levis cords I found?  They were made in 8/86 and the reason I know why is the tag inside is not worn . These were probably only worn once. Mint! How much could I get for them?

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Sorting advice
« on: June 26, 2011, 12:25:21 AM »
good advice yall.  I am a newbie hooked and i do take the time to even go thru what i call "schmegma"  dirty stained clothes inside trash bags...lol. cause i feel as if it's christmas everytime i buy a locker im gonna explore cause it is just plain fun for me.  I am a bit of a snoopy sam and my lady is a nosy nancy!  lol. btw yes we have lives, we are just as interested in other's lives too lol

be careful as i mentioned in another post--- on my 10.00 unit i got there were lots of prison letters and kites and small booty pics and within that lil packet was a small razor blade that fell out of the prison papers. so if u do go thru thoroughly , go thru carefully!

welcome both of you.....  I too am new and be careful--- buying lockers is like gettin tattooed.  The more you get, the more you want!   lol You are doing exactly what I did.  I have gotten two lockers, one for 100 and the other for 10, 5x5 and 5x10 respectively.  the 5x5 had a lot of dress clothes and some electronics and watches and cool guy knick knacks.  almost made all my money back and should make a 50 percent profit.   the 5x10 has some furniture that can be restored and sold for 50.00., some nice clothes- at least 50-100 at a yard sale-- found 40.00 in stamps and 40 in giftcards (unused, duh) lots of funny prison letters, two gold chains and two gold watches and other cool stuff.  i should get about a 400-450 in profit.
My next one i will be looking for a well packed, not unkempt locker with kids toys, furniture, lots of tupperware crates and NO CLOTHES! lol

Still havent found that HUGE wow factor.  I will this monday when I buy the locker i'm visualizing!

Good luck to  the both of you and try opening the yellow pages and calling ALL THE STORAGE FACILITIES FOR LISTINGS!

Later!

New to Storage Auctions? / BE CAREFUL WHEN GOING THRU PAPERS!!!
« on: June 23, 2011, 11:17:14 PM »
Thanks guys! Yeah I just finished sorting the papers And pictures to take back to the storage facility ... crazy how the units tell a story. This unit had two guys information and believe it or not, both were in jail as my lady and I laughed about the sex letters etc. That's not the crazy part... as I was going thru all the contents from prison letters out comes a mini razor blade that obviously was hidden away for a stabby day in d block. Found another homemade slicer in another bag of prison letters. Just goes to show you gotta go thru everything with care and watch out for needles too. Didn't find any of that or drug stuff thank god.

Yeah for ten bucks it was quite an adventure. Need to sell my stuff before I should get another one.
Hey how would I attach a pic of something here to see if anyone knows what it is?

New to Storage Auctions? / got a unit for $10.00
« on: June 22, 2011, 09:15:08 PM »
Went to a corporate chain storage facility yesterday and they don't use an auctioneer so no email blast to thousands of hunters. 94 degrees and only 12 people there to bid on 8 units.  They went super cheap too. I even bid on a second one by yelling yep and turning away... guy didn't hear me and it was a stacked high in that 5x10I with old people stuff. Went for $10 also. Next time I make eye contact. I really wanted that one. Oh well. Thousands out there. Kind of like when a customer doesn't buy a car from me I don't get bummed. P.M.A. makes a difference in life!
So I won a locker with a run down entertainment center, $35 in stamps, $40 in unused gift cards, some nice clothes, a camcorder, ceramic Brazilian collectibles, coffee table and matching end tables, a hurricane survival backpack with 5 years supply of pouched water! Also an antique type of iron bowl and other knick knacks. Even a prom dress and cap and gown and a dehumidifier.  Echo unlimited heavy hooded jacket and lots of good yard sale clothes and items.  Couple of gold chains and watches too. So not bad. Still no bigtime treasure find but like I said....

Thousands more in front of me :)
Anyone on here thinking about owning a thrift store? Thoughts?
