Problem with my area is the new ones who only last a month or two keep getting replaced by other newbies with more money. It seems to be getting more competative in my area. I am one of those who carry the 5-10k, but I have not been willing to drop big money just to make sure I when the locker. With that being said, with all the new competition, and going home empty handed last week, I just might have to show these newbies how deep my pockets are! Not because I want to get in a pissing contents and try to show people up, I just need to start getting more inventory.
just starting out as well and I do bring $2-3k in cash "just in case" that locker comes up, but I will never bid on a locker to win it. Been to several auctions the past two weeks and always returned home empty handed. It will come....just have to have patience....

I would love to find a locker under $200 around this area...these guys throw money at the lockers hoping to find that "one" item they can retire on, but it's going to be a hard lesson learned to many of these guys. As far as that storage shelf you found in the locker, I have two in my garage...nice durable shelving unit....

thanks for the entertainment Movieman...I do look at older threads and read some, but I was saying that I just don't see consistency on this forum as others I am on. Maybe cause there aren't too many involved in the business (which might be a good thing), but nonetheless just wanted to get some shared experiences.

Thanks jrossjr on that brief summery of how you got involved. Like I said earlier, I'm in-between jobs and was re-introduced like many from watching those crazy storage "reality" shows. I haven't made a locker purchase yet, but I will definitely keep everyone in the loop as to what I get! Good Luck to me this week and let's hear others.....

So I have been a member on here for maybe a week now and just wanted to post something on here to maybe get the forums going. I've noticed after reading some older threads that there hasn't been much traffic on here, so hopefully we can get something going with this thread....

Just looking for some stories on how people started (newbie/veteran)...maybe how often they visit, best ways to find auctions, what they do with their findings...anything to get the conversation started! I am recently unemployed and looking for a job, but in the meantime I am going to venture into this cut throat hobby of storage auctioning. I use to dabble in some of these 7-10 years ago, but after recently going to one I see the television shows have attracted several people looking for the golden ticket!

So I will just go to some of these auctions and maybe land me a locker or two....so.....let's hear some of your stories!

even as a new guy and seeing this in my area, I don't waste my time...I watch these guys throw $3-400 more than what the locker looks to be worth, but I have yet to walk away from an auction upset even if I do walk out with none bought. I still have the money for another day.

Thought I'd drop a line on here to introduce myself...I'm definitely a newbie and will be looking for some help with you veterans out there about these storage auctions! My name is Jay and I am currently in-between jobs, have a little saved to help me through the transition and thought I would dabble in the auctioning just to see how things really are (as opposed to the staged ones we see on television)...

I've been to several in the years past with my dad, but he just did it to do something (retired and curious) and noticed from a more recent one that several new people (as if I wouldn't be considered that) showing up with no experience at all in auctions...I'm guessing trying to cash in on the hype that all the new auction shows portray. Anyways, just want to know I have some well seasoned buyers to seek advice to. I have noticed that the forums don't get nearly as much traffic as other forum I've been to (non-auction related).

So, I'm hoping to hear back from several people and get their take on the auction business. Where I'm from, there aren't too many "thrift" stores yet, so I was just testing the waters on possible lockers and maybe seeing how re-listing on CL does. Good Luck to me and the rest of you...I honestly think there are more than enough storage auctions for us all.
