My god how dull it is not to go to auctions, lol.

This week has been auction free here in Memphis, well the there is one tomorrow, but only one unit up for auction. I am not even gonna bother go there. Thats the place who stage their units and let people more or less go thru boxes.

So i have to wait until next week, but then it really takes off. The next 25 days are filled with multiple auctions every day.
And with the warmer weather (upper 70's and lower 80's) it will be nice.  I have a good feeling about april, it can be the month where i really nails it big. I have my plan together, more cash is sat aside to gamble on units. I am ready!

What's it Worth?? / How to value things
« on: March 21, 2011, 04:33:58 PM »
I have the last few days seen some pretty scary things when it comes to putting value on things.
Both in the real world and in here people all the time like to give advice on value.
Sometimes i wonder what the heck are you thinking, how can you give a advice like that, without double checking the facts.

When you buy  a locker and find soemthing cool/old/rare,don't just take any guy's word for it. If you don't know what it is, or when it is from or the value, don't let someone tell you what it is without checking the fact. Any value claims should be backed up if possible. "comps" If anyone gives you a advice on age and other facts, don't buy it blindly, you can burn your self badly.

At least try to get more then one opinion on the item, due your research, check it out with the pro's.
I have seen people beeing fooled and lost a lot of money because they took bad advice or incorrect advice.

Only known facts can be used to put a value on a item, and of course "comps".

The reason i am typing this thread, is because i have seen a guy loose 400 dollars this week on a bad advice.
I have also seen it twice in here this week, two bad advices on question of value and other specifications.

I find it horrible that someone can give others such wrong information, it is almost like they are sitting at home guessing what it is worth and throws it out there as it is THE guideline to follow. At the same time they pretend to know alot about the item, when it turns out they are totally wrong. That tells me, they do not know a jack ****, and should not give advice to others who honestly have said they need help to find out value and age.

So my advice to all of you who think you know things, please know what you are talking about, and back it up with facts.
If you can't back it up, then don't give advices. You might end up creating a loss for the other person.

What's it Worth?? / Need help, what is this?
« on: March 12, 2011, 08:51:44 AM »
I got a unit way back, and in this unit there was a few trunks from the 30's and 40's.
Also there was alot of old books, these books was published between 1927 and 1953.

Among the books this litlle thing showed up, and it has the "old" olive green millitary color to it.
I have asked several people, everyone seems to think it is some kind of millitary thing, a part of a uniform or something.
But so far no one have not been able to tell me what it is and what it was used for.

Is there anyon in this forum who can help me find out what this is?

Today i won a locker for $225.00 and it was a 5x5 packed from the bottom to the top.

From the 3 boxes i have opened i have  so far found over 7lbs of sterling silver, a collection of beanie babies (34 in total) MINT condition, i have found gun related stuff, i have found casino chips with face value of $300.00 but they are beeing sold on ebay for 3-4 times the face value, i have found eminence loudspeakers, i have found 122 original VHS tapes in mint condition, i have found tools, i have found ammo for a ruger 9mm. i have found a brand new portable stove.

And i can only wonder what is in the rest of the boxes. I know for sure, since i have to go there tomorrow and clean out the unit, i will not sleep for one second tonight.

Went to the Extra space auction today, and i did it again.
I got one locker today, one locker that looked really bad from the door.
It was me and one other guy bidding, i ended up winning the locker for $40.00

Yet again i hit the nail on the head, after doing a quick inventory this afternoon i am looking at sales value of $450-600.00
Under all the clothing, there was a lot of good stuff.
Among the stuff was a brand new unopend PLANTRONICS wireless office headset. This set is beeing sold online for $194.00 i am gonna sell it for $125.00

There was 2 pretty new printers + 1 pretty new scanner + a few good books + 1 king size duvet + 2 complete phone sets + medium size critterbox + 4 pick-nic baskets + tons of clothes + kitchen ware and glassware + a phillips portable radio with ipod docking station.
There was more stuff in the but i have not had time to go thru it all.

Stories about Storage Auctions / WOn another one today.
« on: February 03, 2011, 06:50:45 PM »
Went to the second leg of the U-stor auction today.
I got a unit for $50.00, and so far i am happy with it.

So far i have only gone thru it and taken home a few nice items.

I took home this today:

Technics SL-B100 turtable in working order.
Akai GX630D 4 track studio recorder.
Jimi Hendrix twine printed wall pice.
Some glassware
Spaulding baseball glove
1 18kt gold ring
1 necklace In memory of martin luther king
Martin luther king wall clock ( huge pice )
One stone that looks like meterite ( it is heavy as hell for it's size)  compared it to an ordinary rock, this one i got from the unit is almost twice as heavy.
76 lp's from the 60's and 70's
4 pictures, two of them looks like oil paintings, but i can see a signature on them.
1 old kearasine heater
1 craftsman tool chest
3 old baseball bats
1 old lamp (weird one, made in the USA)

But still alot to go thru. can't wait so see what this $50.00 locker brings.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Sunday Auction that sucked
« on: January 30, 2011, 04:03:43 PM »
Todays auction was bad in several ways.

1. Bad units.
2. Few units, as people had paid up on many.
3. Crowded.

1. Public storage must have their own type of clients, i have never seen so many ****ty units from one company. It is almost like they have a magnet to crap.

2. it looked good last niht with many units unpaid, sadly almost all of them was paid up this morning. This made the compatition harder on the remaining units. And with alot NEWBIES with no brain's and to much money in their pocket, this day turned out to be a from hell.
I am not gonna compete with newbies that bids 825 dollars on a 250-300 dollar unit. And some units that normally would go for 50-100 went today for 300-400 dollars.  I HOPE IT TASTE GOOD WHEN YOU SEE HOW YOU THREW YOUR MONEY AWAY!

3. When people show up and have no plans on bidding, and at the same time brings their whole family, (kids, infants in strollers, etc) and on top of that do it in a inside climate controlled storage facillity with limited space, that just makes me wonder.  Another thing is when the same "no bidder" "family picnic" people stands infront of the unit and blocking the veiw for others who are there to bid and buy, then it has come to a point where something has to be done.

A storage facillity here in Memphis has taken this problem to heart, and they Charge a $25.00 fee per person. This fee will be paid back by the end of the auction, and this prevents alot of people to enter. I just wish everyone could start to do that.

The Lounge / Take me! works perfectly
« on: January 30, 2011, 08:29:39 AM »
I have had a few things that was in good working order, but it had paint stains all over them, and some was just looking bad and dirty.
What i do with these kind of things, is just putting it to the curb with a note on them saying "take me"

This works every time, last night i put an office chair out that was in good working order, but someone had spilled buggy green paint all over it. Well this morning it was gone.

That is probbobly the cheapest and least time consuming way to get things of your hand.

The Treasure Chest / Now i am happy!
« on: January 27, 2011, 04:04:33 PM »
I finally got around to check out the scale that i found in my last unit.
It was an Edlund DS10.

I checked it out, and the online price is $570.00 but they have it on sale for 425.99. Wooooohhhhhhoooooooo
That made my day totally. So i am now posting it for sale at $349.00 and i remind you, i only paid $170.00 for the whole unit.
Not only that, but i have tons of stuff still for sale from that unit.

What a freaking goldmine that one turned out to be. Potential sale on this unit are more then $2500.00
