The Treasure Chest / Re: Coins..Coins..Coins.....
« on: December 31, 2010, 11:22:43 AM »
Nice one.

I mean every unit is at least worth $100.00 for that price you can take a risk even with trash units. I paid $150.00 for this one unit that looked to be alot of work and no gain. Everyone around me said, good luck with the dumping fee's and all the work.

Well i turned $150.00 + $100.00 dumping fee, into a sale of $3200.00 so far, and i still have stuff for sale.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Crowds?
« on: December 31, 2010, 11:08:39 AM »
Here in Memphis,TN we have about 30 people showing up each time.
The crowd are biggest when Extra space and U-store-it have their auctions.

I am excited to see what happends when public storage and U-stor have their auctions this coming week.

And we also have a few smaller independent companies around here, so maybe it will be better when the smaller places have their auctions.

I agree, but it will only last for so long.
Alot of the people that shows up are not even bidding, at least here in Memphis,TN.
I am my self a newbie, have been doing this for 3 months now.
But even i can see that the crowds are getting bigger every week.

When that is said, out of 30 people that shows up, only 10 are bidding.

But it is funny when i hear that veterans talking behind my back about how stupid newbies are and how bad the shows are for the business.  NO IT IS NOT BAD FOR BUSINESS!  it is bad for their business, lol.
I have the last 3 months been winning auctions and gotten units for $50.00, $100.00 and $150.00 and made good profit on it.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: My first auction today

There is a hype out there, and the TV shows are creating it.
I like the hype, don't get me wrong.

The newbies that bid up th units will not be around for long, they maybe will be around for a month or two, and when they see that their investment don't create the  income they wanted, they will run for the hills.

I am my self a newbie in this, but i do it with a long term goal in mind. And i want to make the best deals i can.
That means paying minimum for the units and selling it for the most i can.

My most expesive unit so far was $150.00 my cheapest unit so far was $50.00 and on the one i paid $150.00 for i made $2500.00 on.
The one i paid $50.00 for i made $740.00 on so just be smart.

If there are several units up for auction the same day, let people run out of steam on the early ones, then you hit the last ones with your bids. That way the "tv wannabe" auction hunters will fade away.

Another things is, here in memphis,TN we have on the last 2 auctions had about 30 people showing up, but out of that only 5 to 10 have been bidding.  So there is alot of people just hanging around for thethrill of it.

It is huge!

There are tons of storage places and the auctions are many.
But so is the crowd that shows up every time.

All the auctions i went to in December had between 25 and 30 people showing up.
Out of these there was only like 5-10 people bidding and buying.

I won two auctions right before christmas, and it turned out to be two good ones.
Now in January there is like 60 auctions coming up in the first two weeks, and 35 auctions in the last two weeks.
So this can be a good one.

What i find in the units.

Well so far i have been lucky, i have found old watches, jewelry, vintage cameras, old books, designer clothing, crystal vases, nintendo games, sega games, art, stamp collections, world war two stuff, Elvis stuff, old 8mm movies, etc

eBay / Re: eBay Seller Assistant
« on: December 31, 2010, 09:39:53 AM »
Another thing that works even better then Ebay and the seller assitent thing.

Go to thrift stores that do consignment sales, they have a storefront, they have the staff and th customers.
Their fees are normally 25% so it is a better deal for you as the primary seller.

Open up your own free website with online sales, and setting up an Google merchant account will also be helping you alot.

Then you have tons of free classifides that you can use, craigslist, kijiji,OLX  and etc.

What you should focus on is the sales, even when you buy alot of storage lockers.
Get help with the sorting and the heavy work, and the time eating work. This is where you should have helpers.
That way you can focus on selling and creating a solid turnover and profit.

Lets look at a scenario.
Lets say you sell for $100 000  a year, and out of these 100 000 you give away 35% to seller assitents = $35 000. (is it worth it?)
Is it worth it to give away $35 000 on the easy job? i mean selling the stuff is the easy part of storage auctions.

Instead of giving away $35 000 why not hire someone for a whole year to do all the dirty work of emptying and cleaning out the units you buy?? and at the same time you will have someone to help you sort thru the stuff.

What you have done then is buying your self time to SELL and make money. And create aprofit for your self and your company.

Another thing is, if you are willin to give away $35 000 on your sales, why not hire someone in your family or among your friends to do all the posting on ebay in-house?? That way you help your self, but you also help friends or family members that might need an income.
For you it is a win win case.

Start creating your empire today, don't give it away!

The Treasure Chest / The pack rat unit
« on: December 21, 2010, 08:26:36 AM »
I won an auction for a unit, and it was what you can call, a pack rat unit.
Tons of stuff, 80% garbage.

But out of this unit (10x20) i have gotten so much nice stuff, just waiting to be sold over new year.

9 War ration books, valued at 10-15 dollars a pice.
Stamp collection, valued at 2500-3000 dollars
Vintage JVC videocamera, valued at 350 dollars
Vintage Bauer 88B videocamera (from the 1950's) valued at 600 dollars
16 pices of Jewelry, valued at a total of 200 dollars
Brand new Tommy Hilfiger checkbook/wallet, valued at 125 dollars
6 Nintendo games, valued at 15 dollars a pice.
Vintage Sawyers slide projector, valued at 225 dollars

Ont top of this i got alot of brand new lamps and clothing, all of this is valued at about 300-400 dollars.

Not bad when i paid 150 dollars for the unit, + about 100 dollars in dumping fees.

So whats wrong with driving a Nissan Sentra to auction?
I do that every time, and i always pick up a unit or two each time.

You will be burned one day if you look down on people, one day one of those with a Nissan sentra will snatch the dream locker right infront of your nose.
