eBay / Re: Anyone know anything on buyer001*? Am I screwed?

Well, buyer is claiming he didn't receive his item(Shocker, NOT!), and has filed a paypal claim(Lovely little chinese a$$hole).  Word to the wise put this a$$hole on your block list.  Only reason he has a 100% feedback rating is because his seller leave feedback once item is shipped.  Knew this buyer was going to be a problem.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Lookey Loos Part 12.....December, 2011

Well, it appears that I have a little bit more learning to do. Got two units today the first so far looks like I'll make my money back. Overbid by about $50, but I'm glad I got it I know between the bigs alone that I will make my money back. when I talk to the site manager he said the lady wanted buy back her units at half her rent, so I'm hoping that I find something very valuable it in 10 x 10 or the 5 x 10. I'll update you guys on Sunday afternoon or Monday afternoon on what I find. I'd say tomorrow but I have some estate sales to hit, and then MSU plays Wisconsin for the big 10 title(huge Michigan State fan), so I probably won't get to listing everything until Sunday afternoon or Monday afternoon.

Well I have my normal Friday the first of the month silent bid auction tomorrow. Anyone want to see what I'm bidding on?

As boring as it may seem, I would just stick with Lookie Loo's (part 13, etc.).

I do like "Auction Scene" as an alternative.

My suggestion for something a little more fun is: Fools and their Money.
Are soon departed part one!

Maybe we could tie something in for lookie loos to the Mayan prophecy at the end of 2012.

Maybe call it countdown to stupidity 2012.

82
Unfortunately watched it, boring!

Sorry guys I thought this was old news, I heard about this 2 months ago from the manager at extra space storage. Haven't read the article due to using an iPhone on that crappy webpage. I guess she is or has file a lawsuit.  I guess new owner also was offering a sweetheart deal to aretha which heard she had turned down.

Can't wait for friday to get here, my silent bid place is coming up and I am in the frame of mind to get all 5 lockers.  2 months after the 10x30 I think the rest of these peoples stuff is going for sale.  Has same red trash bags WM and hospitals would use(10x30 had bunch of red bags), was in the same building #, and is only 2 lockers away from my original 10x30.  Plus looks like some of the same crap the 10x30 owner had.

I already know 2 units look like **** but I can make a few bucks off of them.  Best part all units will go for under $350 with 4 units probably going for under 150 and one I think I can get at the most $5.

The Treasure Chest / Estate Sales
« on: November 26, 2011, 09:49:20 PM »
I love em.

Think I got about 3/4 of an ounce of 14K Gold.  I'm going to get them checked monday, but I already know one is 14K for sure!

The price for all this gold $6.

Then went to another estate sale and probably picked up roughly 2K in art for 70 bucks.  As scores go, today was the best!

The first time I heard about storage auctions was maybe a decade ago. It was some sort of story in the paper or maybe on the radio about a couple interesting auction finds. The most interesting they mentioned was the unit containing $40,000 cash... and the printing presses used to make them.

Anyhow, the whole concept sounded like a fun idea, but somewhere I got the misconception that the units were bid on sight-unseen. I believed that it was much more of a pure gamble than it actually is.

Fast forward and now we have the cable shows. Having already had some interest in these auctions, I checked out a couple shows and started doing more research and here I am.

Came home from my first auction a couple hours ago. Probably post about that in the looky-loos thread.

Thanks to Todd for resurrecting this thread. Had never noticed it and it's a cool topic.

I also originally thought it was sight unseen back in 06/07 and was the reason I just stayed away. Got busy and then got sick(had multiple surgeries in 09) and forgot to do research or go to actual auctions.  April/May of this year I hear about how good SW's shows are from the sports radio station I listen to.  Check out SW. Love what I'm seeing, but as the free thinker I try to be I think to myself, it can't be this easy. Do my research, find out yup not as easy as SW makes it look, but now I'm intrigued. Start researching how to bid, watching (oddly enough) Glendons videos and getting tips about not losing your head. I even find a website that says what you should pay for smaller units.

I save about $300 bucks in about 3 months hit my first auctions. Saw a hoarder unit so I was looking for a place to ask questions about price and how to keepyourself safe when digging in a locker. First stop is the storage forum run by Dotsons people, not alot of help and like no activity so I keep searching and find this place.  You guys are some of the best Internet supports ever, from encouragement when I didnt get a unit to helping me place silent auction bids, people have been awesome here.

That's my mini story!

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Research research research
« on: November 23, 2011, 06:40:16 PM »
Craigslstauction,  what you talk about is an excellent example of what I call the filtering process. Start from the top and work your way down. Each item should have the best chance to sell for the highest value. I see way too many people sitting on items and not understanding that they have to turn and burn to make a profit.

Research is experience's substitute, do it!

Thats the thing I started learning about a month ago.  I was sitting on items hoping someone would give me full price, and it almost never happened.  Know if say I have something listed for say 90 on CL and someone offers 50, I haggle with them to hit mid point.  I already know they want the item so I'm not going to get taken for dirt cheap, but it is clear that full price many times just ain't happening.

BTW, a android or iPhone is almost necessary for this business.

I'm going to say get real Glendon.

What you have built is not possible in today's auction scene.  I'll give you credit for doing what you did, but to ask someone to replicate what took you 10 years to do in 6 months in a down economy and with idiot bidders is impossible.  The only way possible to do that in 6 months is somehow get on a new Storage Wars (insert city here).

I know I am not a expert at Storage lockers, but I know that common sense is at least 60% of this business, 35% I'd say is knowing what items will resell at and 5% is luck.

Common sense(with some learning experience) has seen me grow $400 starting cash into $1500 and another $1K to sell.  I know it may not sound impressive to you or others, but I also have a full time job, I am trying to sell items in one of the most depressed areas in the US(Michigan), and I am fighting idiots who think they are going to find a Babe Ruth sports item or Gold in every unit.

South West / Re: Whats the auction life in DFW area like?
« on: November 23, 2011, 12:58:17 AM »
Yeah, I know about the cultural differences(Aunt and Uncle live in DFW area).  Will be expecting cowboy knockoff $hit galore, but this is a move as the months go bye that looks inevitable.  When I say Michigan is bone dry for jobs for friends and family I mean it!  You live in Michigan now it's more dare I say luxury then need to.  I dont want to leave but there is no way I can stay.

I'd miss Michigan though.  Nothing says fun like 12" of snow and a RWD vehicle or Reverse doughnuts.  I'd also miss the fall colors(26 years of them).

I liked Darrells locker(not at $2900 though)
Barry is regressing in locker picking, although his jokes are getting funnier
Jarrods locker was not worth a $1900 bid
