The Lounge / Re: I buy foreign currency new or old
« on: November 06, 2011, 07:42:15 PM »
Ive got a jar full of coins.  From Euros, to German marks, francs, pesos.. name it.  I probably got it.  I toss my american currency into one jar, copper pennies into another and then all the foreign coins go in one.

Hit me up, I'll get the jar down and take some pictures of it.

The Lounge / Re: All Sports Cards (MI)
« on: November 06, 2011, 07:38:50 PM »
Man, I seem to be a magnet for sports cards, I've gotten to where unless they are in sleeves or other protective barriers, I been tossing them in the contractors bags.

I'll hold on to em for ya, want me to contact you when I fill up a box full of em?  I get these things all the time and I see them more as a nuisance.  They are a pain in the butt to sweep too.

eBay / Re: This is what's so great about ebay!!!
« on: October 31, 2011, 07:29:44 PM »
Im going through this crap on ebay right now.

I sold a lot of 4 submachine guns (1:6 scale toys)
Buyer wins
Buyer sends me a communication indicating he wanted me to ship these in a box
I ship them in a bubble envelope - a box would run the cost of shipping over the price I charged for shipping
Few weeks later, buyer emails me and wants me to refund him 5 dollars because the items were used
I email him and tell him it was listed as used and had pics of the actual toys in the auction, I also tell him that although I do not normally accept returns, if he would ship the items back to me then I would refund him his money.

Heres where it gets sketchy.  He tells me he went to the P.O. and was told it would cost him 5 bucks to send this stuff back.  Thats weird, shipping in an envelope only costed me 1.70.

I again tell this guy, you return me the items, you'll get a refund of what you sent me.  He is now adamant that I just refund him 5 bucks and he keeps the item.

I don't think so. Emailed him AGAIN; return the items and you will receive a full refund.  I'm about to tell him to take it up with ebay.

Here's the sweet justice in all this.  I have TONS of this stuff and he has been bidding on some really nice auctions (nice stuff and cheap prices).  I added this clown to my blocked bidders list and it removed him from all my other auctions.

This is the buyers scam.  They want to keep the item but they think they can corner you into giving them a "partial refund".  Not with me, IF I decide to give them a refund, it won't be until I receive the item first.

There's a pair of panties sitting in the corner of my garage that's from a unit like 3 years ago. I'm always too lazy just to pick it up and throw it out, it's behind a couch and a bathroom vanity I have out there.

I'm giong to pick it up, with a stick of course lol, and take some pics and put it on ebay

Nasty Old Pair Of Panties "From Storage Auction" and see if it sells lol.

It'll sell.  Don't wash em though, that takes away the patina that it accrued over the last 3 years.

Here's what I would do.

I would never do any business with either this company or this auctioneer again.  I'd then lodge a complaint with the state that issued that auctioneer his license.  I personally would not of went to this auction in the first place, 10% buyer premium?  Screw that. I'll go find a caravan that doesn't charge this.  They are out there.

It's a shame they would do this.  They are essentially shorting themselves in the future because once word hits that they did this once, no one will want to buy any of their stuff and then in future auctions, they won't make near as much money.

You mind listing the company and the auctioneer for some good old fashioned publicity?

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Cleaning furniture
« on: October 31, 2011, 06:58:02 PM »
Gotta love it when the previous owners don't cover up the furniture and leave it in storage for 7 years.

I've got a chair that needs cleaning, I'll post a picture of it here when I get the chance.  I am planning on taking my not so lean, really mean, carpet cleaning machine to it.

The dust appears to be all over this fabric.  I want to get this chair cleaned up and sold.  I'll post a before picture, we can see what it is worth in its current condition and then I'll get it all cleaned up and post an after picture.. just to see if the value looks like it would be worth increasing.

I cant post the pics now, at work and chair is at home.

So far in 11 units I have found:

A gun
Nigh Vision goggles
A coin collection
A motorcycle
Gold jewelry
Kevlar Vest

One thing I am hoping for is a shotgun to complete my home defense collection.

I found a night vision monocular, coin collection, gold jewelry and a kevlar vest last month.  Weird reading your finds and thinking 'hey, i found that same stuff!'  Nice finds.  Did the night vision work for you or was it screwed up before you powered it up?  I got one of the older gen1 devices and they apparently break themselves if they aren't used for a while.  Mine went to the trash.

Back on topic.

I want to find guns, precious metals and anything antique/ unique.  I seem to find mattresses, boxes of clothes and IKEA furniture made with the finest particle board you can buy.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: refinishing furniture
« on: October 31, 2011, 06:49:39 PM »
I'm currently in possesion of a Huntley Furniture desk.  These things can sell for $400 and up restored but this thing is scratched and chipped.  The desk itself is in great condition, just needs a little TLC to make it 'good as new'.

Been pondering what I should do with it, sell it as is for 50 bucks or go the extra mile, fix it up and sell it for its true value.

I have to admit, this thing is a bit of a pain to get rid of. I've put the vest up on my website, ran it through CL as well and no bites.  Oh well, this may have to be one of those items that will sit around until the right buyer comes around.

Was hoping it would sell before the troops get back from the Iraq, market will be flooded with these things then.

OK, I'm curious, what is it you think is going to happen exactly? I know times have been tough lately and things might get worse, but do you really think things are going to devolve into a Mad Max type post-apocalyptic world?

As far as the topic goes, I collect coins, but I just can't get into modern Lincoln cents. The mintage is too high for them to ever really be that collectible. I guess if the melt ban is ever lifted someone could make some money hoarding tons of them, but it's not like the price copper is likely to sky rocket enough to make a modest collection that valuable.

I don't think it will get "madmax" style, but my preparations will get me through something like that. I do think that store shelves will be empty because the cost of food is going to skyrocket.  I think once our dollar collapses, we will have a brief period of time that will see silver being used as currency until a new financial system can be established. During this brief period of time, people will go hungry. This happens in other countries all the time. We just don't think it will happen to us.  It will, debt to GDP says it will.  Not a matter of IF but rather WHEN.  I think in the next five years, maybe sooner.

Basically, everything that our gov't has done has done absolutely nothing for the economy and we are fast approaching 100% debt to GDP (100% debt to GDP on Halloween).  Factor in a trade war with China and our exposure to european banks in the form of credit default swaps, and we have a recipe for disaster.  The gov't fix is stimulus, which fixes nothing.  The job bill creates zero growth.  Anyone can pay someone to dig a hole and fill it back up; fixes nothing, only makes it worse because now we are spending money on a "fix" that fixed nothing.  Sure, roads will be smoother, bridges will be better built, but what does that matter when the factories aren't putting out the products?

I suggest watching two videos on youtube, first is a YT search for "Peter Schiff was right".  This guy predicted everything that happened so far, and the YT videos show "financial experts" literally laughing at him.  The second video I would recommend, "Peter Schiff testifies before congress".  Two MUST WATCH videos.  The congress video is great, he really spelled out to congress what will happen in the very very near future.

As another posted already said, check argentina, zimbabwe and the weimar republic for some examples of how government printing of money has caused financial collapse in their own countries.  With the USA, it will be ALOT worse.  We are the reserve currency of the world.  Once other countries find another safe haven, we will truly be screwed.  Once OPEC prices oil in something other than the USD, we will be screwed.  The government is already borrowing 40% of all the money we spend, with zero intention of every paying any of it back.  The fix?  Borrow more.  Its not a democrat thing or a republican thing, this is a government thing. When Nixon took us off the gold standard, that was our undoing.  We became a completely fiat currency at that point in time, we also became the reserve currency. Now if keynesian history repeats itself (which it will), then that means the US had 40 years before the currency became 'worthless'.  We hit that 40 year mark last month and we are now seeing a 98% reduction in the value of a dollar.  That means what costed 2 cents in 1971 will cost us a dollar now.  Ahh, gotta love inflation right? US citizens are being robbed in the form of inflation.

Not me.  I hedge with metals, cant rob the value of a metal and history has proven time and again that silver and gold are always the goto currency when a fiat currency collapses.  ALL FIAT CURRENCIES COLLAPSE.  There is not a fiat currency ever, in the history of any country in the world, that hasn't collapsed. We are no different, we aren't special.  We just have a country full of ignorant people that thing 'it wont happen to us, we're the usa'.  Truth is, those are going to be the people that will starve.

I could go on and on but I really suggest searching the youtube videos I mentioned above, they spell it out in clear terms.  Once watching those, you'll see things in a different light.

Youtube search for:

Peter Schiff was right
Peter Schiff testifies before congress (this one is really recent, last couple months)

The Lounge / Re: Beckett Online Price Guide

I would think that would be a huge money sink.  Check ebay.  The last time I got cards, I showed them to someone who collects and he told me that Ebay sets the prices now, not beckett.

The Lounge / LoneStarAds.US classified site
« on: October 25, 2011, 06:52:12 PM »
Free classified site is up.  URL is at lonestarads .us

Im still working out the finer details, but its free and its another channel to sell stuff.

Should have traffic getting to that site soon, real soon.  I've done this before with a puppy classified site.

If you have stuff to sell, list it for free with my site, I'll even throw in a store front (similiar to ebays) for free.  You can customize your own store front, create your own categories etc.

Check it out.. nothing to lose, right?  If you have any site suggestions then email them to me at [email protected] and I'll see what I can do.

I have to give it to ya, I used your list and found a good auction in my neighborhood.  Long story short.. This auction was not listed on the free auctionzip site.. it was on a saturday though

I thought it would be packed.. not so much.. ended up with some great units.  Your list paid for itself in one morning..  went back and got the list for the whole year..
