I bought a garage.  Roll up door, has a side door installed for a walk in door.  Garage is 12 feet by 20 feet. Take all the dump out of the unit, keep the good stuff in the new garage. Costs about 200 bucks a month but I can use this for my own personal storage as well, not like I don't have enough sheds already.. lol.

I like it like this, my stuff is on my property and I never have to worry about burglars.  If one showed up here.. well.. this being Texas and all.. that would be their biggest mistake of their life.  .40 caliber HP's..

I guess thats the main thing, I wanted storage on my property.  No driving to a unit, no worrying about someone busting my lock off my locker. Its all right here at home with me.

Easier to sell from too.  CL buyers never step foot in my house.

If I showed up to one and see camera crews, I'm leaving.

First, I have zero desire to be on TV
Second, I already anticipate lockers going for too much
Third, I don't want to stand around for three hours while they 'get it right'

Count me out..

$175 for that 2nd unit with that furniture?  Man, you got a deal on that one.  Did you find an arrest warrant?  Obviously, you stole that unit!  ;D

Thats a nice dresser.  What did you end up selling it for?

$65.00?  You got a winner there. I know where I would try to sell that many pictures.  I would find a hotel/ days inn/ motel 6 or any other place being constructed nearby and sell to them.  Find the manager of the soon to be hotel/ motel and tell them you got some really nice pictures for the rooms.

Sell them in one huge lot.

I could mention two by name, but the auction gods on high might hurl a lightning bolt my way.

Needless to say their attributes center around being control freaks, to wit:

"line up against this wall !  Exit along this wall!" (no "please" and totally "control" attitude).

Explain all rules AGAIN everytime some new person walks up.

Make up auction "rules" as they go along (YOUR cleanout fee will be $1,000...because I don't like you).

"You HAVE to sign-in...IT'S THE LAW !" (had to laugh out loud and drew a "dagger" of a look from auctioneer)

etc, etc.

Those examples represent two of four major auctioneers in my area.

Is this in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area?  We have an auctioneer who does the same thing, goes through all the rules at each auction.  Requires everyone to sign in at each auction, regardless if you have been on the caravan for the last 6 facilities. Requires EVERYONE to sign in, even if you don't want to bid, even if you are with your significant other/ wife/ husband and working as a team.

I don't mind all their rules, but they should really find a way to speed things up.  In between facilities, me and the wife went to eat.  Spent a good 30 to 45 minutes at a restaurant, only to show up at the facility and wait for another 30 minutes.

We left after that one, I just couldn't take it anymore. It was moving too slow for me.  That day, there were also some of those PODS boxes at another auction.  We really wished we would of went to that one.

Can't complain too much though, we did stand around chit chatting with some of the regulars.  Turns out that these regulars liked this auctioneer the best. Different strokes for different folks.  I just thought this one was too time consuming.

I try to stay away from stuff like this.

The first thing I noticed was the old computer monitor lying face down in the pile of junk. The second thing I noticed was the hampers with more 'dump' in them.  Crushed boxes. Trash bags. Loose junk.

This looks like someone moved, and valued their junk.  It literally looks like they just threw it into the locker.  That tells me there probably isn't much of any value.  The old monitor- why save that?  With as cheap as computers are now days, when I see old PC equipment just tossed into a locker, that speaks alot about the former owners financial state.

325 is too much.  IF I had to bid on this, I would keep it under 100, 150 absolute top.

I would walk away. Thats just me.  I bought one like this, I learned my lesson. Luckily I only paid 150 for it, and the only reason I bought it was the dresser and chest freezer.  I figured I would make money on the other junk but most ended up in the dump and I barely broke even.

General Storage Auction Talk / Question about listing on ebay..
« on: October 08, 2011, 04:32:01 PM »
What does everyone here do with there collections they find in storage?  I found a collection of 1/6 scale military dolls and gear.  I only found three dolls (action figures) but I have a huge lot of the gear.

It really threw me off that people collect this stuff.  Who would've thought?

I've put the pictures and this partial topic under what is it worth section but was wondering if it would be worth splitting all this stuff up or selling it as one massive lot?

Im leaning towards one massive lot.  I took pictures this morning and that took me a while. There is alot.

What would you do with this stuff if you found it in a storage locker?

heres the post with pictures (slightly image heavy).

I bid on a storage locker and pulled out two large totes full of 1/6 scale military gear for dolls.  I have a few dolls as well (not all).

The dolls vary in prices on ebay and I think I got a few winners.  The dolls will sell. The question I have is regarding all of this gear.  This stuff is exactly like the real thing, just scaled down.  The dolls will be listed on ebay ala carte but this gear, I don't know what to do with it.

A. I can sell this stuff ala carte/ batches.  EG. 3 or 4 tactical plate carriers of different styles.  Line of thinking is someone that collects this stuff would pay a bit more for a lot of vests/ clothes/ gear.

B. Sell this stuff as one huge lot.  I have no idea what I would make but it would be alot easier to box this stuff up and ship it.

Some of this gear didn't come with the retail box, its aftermarket gear.  Some of the aftermarket "gear boxes" retails well over $100.00.  I have around 10 boxes of this stuff.  Miniature weapons, clothes, helmets, goggles/ sunglasses, grenades, boots, molle gear, assault packs.. you name it.  If its carried into battle, there is a mini version of it and I think I have it.

What would you do?  Ebay wholesale the whole lot or break it apart and sell batches here and there.

Im leaning towards wholealing the whole lot.  I don't want to get eaten alive with listing fees.

Ill post some pictures in a bit.
