usually pawn shops do 60% spot

Quote
What does the "Spot Price" mean? Generally speaking, the spot price is the given cash price of a commodity, like silver, gold or platinum, at a given time and place. It never includes the "extra" costs you may have to pay in buying something, like broker commissions, transaction and storage fees, delivery fees, seller markups, etc

and you can sell it at the jewelry store (not in the mall but by itself in a shopping center of some sort)  and you will get like 90% spot.

lets say

todays gold price is 1780.50 an ounce

you have 2 grams of gold which is 1.29dwt (pennyweight) @ 100% spot is $66.80

Pawnshop will give you $ 40.08

jewelry will give you $ 65.46

thats a 25.00 mark up..

now theres a difference in pawn shop and selling gold to a jewelry.

pawn shop - you can get it back
jewelry shop - you sell it and never get it back.

The Treasure Chest / Re: Just got a washing machine, free of charge
« on: November 15, 2011, 01:38:37 PM »
I m guilty of that too.

I see a washing machine or dryer on the side of the road, I go to the front door and ask whats wrong with it.

If it sounds minor and I end up taking it home and see if i can repair it.

80 percent is repairable and cheap so i sell it for 50-75 a pc.

Not bad.

it doesnt happen very often,  just on bulk days  twice a year.

Well,

I was in the business of buying bmx and flipping them 85% of it on bmx forums, ebay and craigslist.  Been doing this for 4 years and this year, bmx has dried up (I would find a worthy bmx bike to part out and sell every 3 months instead of weekly basis)
Finally, I watched Storage Wars and Auction Hunters - thought to myself,  I had experience selling and flipping things, I can do this.  Now im trying to persuade my wife to come help me with the auctions (team tag bid, extra pair of eyes that i didnt see and clean ups)

My goal is to open a small resell shop and say I have a business that I can go to everyday and be my own boss - to do that, i have to have stuff to re sell.

Thus, I popped my cherry last saturday and going to one on this coming week Friday and hopefully it will go as planned.

I want us to have recognition in the community and like to know pretty much everyone in town by their names.

Yes we are in a town of 51,182 people.

General Storage Auction Talk / Storage Locker Listings

I have some few questions to ask you.

1) when a storage locker doesn't get paid for 3 months, it goes up for auction.  Is it required for it to be a public notice in the paper provided by that storage unit?

I looked in every local paper and nada.  I was like  :-\

2) Where can i get a complete listing online for free without all the do this and that, jump a couple of hoops then pay a little bit bs?

where else can i look?

3) I was going to ask about the locks on the storage during auction day but I have found my answer on that one.

thanks!  ;D
