Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: So how's everyone doing?

That sounds like a good score, but did you have to keep the machinery in the back of your truck for two weeks?

Almost! Initially we planned to get it in and out of the truck using a pallet jack and lift gate. It was just too heavy. We could move it with the pallet jack but could not get it onto the gate. As I said earlier the storage facility loaded it for us so we managed to get it home. We have several business very near our home with fork lifts, literally within a couple hundred yards,  so we weren't too worried about it. Very small town where everybody knows everybody. Figured it wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately the first two people we asked both said insurance prevented taking the fork lift off their property. The third guy said sure, no problem and came and unloaded it for us.

Haven't been buying many units at all. Mostly because they all seem to be junk. Did buy one recently with a 2000 lb piece of machinery in it for $600. Luckily the facility had a forklift to load it in the truck for us. Sold it to a buyer 300 miles away who paid immediately but took a couple weeks to pick it up. The interesting thing about the unit was that we were all looking at the machine and paid no attention to the rest of the stuff in the unit. There wasn't that much other stuff but enough to clear almost $1500 before we even sold the machine and then sold the machine for another $1000.

eBay / Re: Strange EBAY dispute resolution

Just a little follow up. I got the item back today. So weird though, she never even opened it. It was still sealed just like I sent it. She crossed out her address and wrote return to sender on it. It took 21 days to get back to me. Obviously she decided she didn't want or need it before even receiving it but kind of rude to say it was not as described in her paypal complaint when she didn't even open it.

eBay / Re: What's the worst feedback you've ever read on eBay?

Wow, that was pretty amazing. Hopefully karma took care of that seller.

Now that's just creepy. What did they say to you and how did you respond?

It was a mother and daughter owned unit and the daughter was the one that showed up as we pulled into the driveway with an open trailer full of their stuff. She claimed she just happened to be up the street and saw her bike in the trailer as we drove by. Yeah...no, I don't think so. Anyway she was upset and crying. Her boyfriend was with her but didn't get involved. Told her that we would return all personal papers and photos to the storage facility and that is all we could do. Her boyfriend said "lets just go" and they did. Never saw her again. This was actually our very first unit. What a way to start, huh? They had tons of purses with other womens papers, credit cards and ID. Arrest records. Photocopied cash...how stupid is that? They were thieves, and druggies. I sold some of the clothes at a garage sale and had a buyer inform me that there was a crack pipe and a credit card in the sleeve of a coat. OMG, I did my best to explain that the clothes were not mine. Now that was embarrassing...

I've seen a quite few show up and approach the buyer after the sale although none that were drunk or belligerent that I can remember. Had one show up at my house once, 20 miles from storage facility. Youngish girl, very upset, with her boyfriend. Had either followed us home or the facility gave out our address which they denied. Lesson learned that day, never put your physical address on the sign in. It was two days after the auction so if she followed us home it was just pure luck that she saw us at all.

I agree, suicide or drug related. Can't think of another reason to be so vague.

It's still going to count against your Top Seller Rating for "Item not as describe" you might want to call ebay and tell them to re-classify or delete that case.

Do you think so? Even though it's a paypal case and not an ebay case?

I thought that might be a possibility. I wonder if it will ever show up.

eBay / Strange EBAY dispute resolution
« on: October 10, 2014, 02:56:52 PM »
I just received a communication from Paypal that a case against me has been decided in the buyers favor. First I had heard of this. So to back up, I sold a small inexpensive piece of jewelry, under $20 including shipping. The buyer emails me as soon as she receives it with: "sorry not going to work will promptly reship". My listing has a no returns policy. I respond with "was there something wrong with the item?". She immediately responds with: "not at all". I didn't respond and haven't heard from her since. I just assumed she probably read the listing and realized it was no return although I would have let her if she pursued it. Not worth a bad feedback over a couple bucks lost postage. That was all on 10/2. So this morning I get the paypal message I mentioned above. I look in past emails (I get a ton of paypal emails since they email me every time I get paid and every time I print a label) and yesterday I got an email stating that the dispute against me has been escalated to a claim. Her dispute says "Item not as described" and her complaint is: "i returned the item the seller is aware of this and that its ok for them, and they will refund my money back.  I still dont have refund." That is a cut and paste, exactly her words. Ok, first of all I haven't gotten it back yet. Second of all I just got the email less than 24 hours ago stating that it was excalated to a claim and I have 10 days to respond and already this morning they have closed it and decided in her favor. Ok, here's the really strange/funny part. In the email deciding in her favor it says: "Due to the unique circumstances of the case, PayPal will refund your buyer at no cost to you. Your account will not be debited." wtf! I checked and they haven't taken the money out of my account. So she gets a refund and they cover it due to "special circumstances"? I'm dying to know the whole story but since it didn't cost me anything I don't really want to ask them. So wierd.....

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Free electronics drop-off
« on: October 09, 2014, 09:24:05 AM »
Our local dump takes electronics for free. There is also another nearby facility that takes electronics for free and recently I heard they will take mattresses for free (the other place, not the dump) also which is a huge plus. A couple of the storage facilities that I have bought units at had free electronics recycle on site.

Company News / Re: Forum's new look - What do you think?

Ha ha I don't like the green button either. Took me a couple days to figure out how to reply....didn't really have anything to say anyway....

I have it down these days but made a few mistakes in the past. My biggest mistakes were about dimensional weight. When you have something that doesn't weigh much but don't consider it is oversized and UPS or USPS charges you extra due to size. I take the hit generally and call it a learning experience. If I over estimate more than a few bucks I refund the difference. I usually list everything parcel select through the post office and often it works out cheaper to use Priority mail which is insured and quicker so it's rare that I under estimate anymore.

Finding a buyer! Also, deciding what is the best avenue to sell that item.

Give them to the storage facility to return to the owners. Probably of no use or value to you unless they were for some memorable invention or something of historical value. If they were for velcro or post it notes then .....
