I wonder why, maybe florida law declared online auctions illegal or smartstop changed thier minds for florida only?

3 facilities that i track about 12 units all pulled, and i doubt they all paid.

I'm sure travis will find out.

Obviously, whoever buys and sells storage lockers for a living, is operating a retail business (Selling and buying merchandise)

The part I'm having trouble with is this..

Say I buy a storage unit for $1000

So my Beginning Inventory is $1000

I sell say $1500 dollars worth of that inventory (in which it might be say 75% of the locker) but that in no way means my ending inventory is $250.. as the remaining 25% might be either all the pristine items that I haven't found a value for yet, or perhaps all the garage sale stuff that might add up to $50 bucks.

How do you determine what your ending inventory is for that year, or do you just estimate that it's $250 remaining..  It's hard because, you're not buying specific items with a specific cost and estimate the cost of good sold to be $750.

If you get an audit, what will the IRS say. This is the only part that's guesswork, because the value is subjective.

eBay / Do you watch your own items on eBay?
« on: March 23, 2014, 11:19:59 AM »
eBay allows you to watch your own items, other buyers see the number of people watching the auction now, they might may an impulsive buy, because if they delay they might think so other buyer will snatch it up before them.

I watch a lot of my own items to show interest. In the future eBay might take a way the ability of watching your own items, but then again they might not, if it makes more conversions.

eBay / Selling Limits..
« on: March 11, 2014, 09:47:10 PM »
I just got this message from ebay, I guess I been banking a little too much on ebay. Now I can only sell 1.2 million or 12,000 transactions a year worth of merchandise. That sucks, because I have a lot to sell.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

This message is to notify you that in order to assist you in building a strong foundation for future transactions on eBay, we have placed a selling limit for your listing activity. These limits are not in place as a consequence, rather as a preventative measure to help our seller's keep from becoming overwhelmed with large increases in account activity.

Many members already have limits placed on their account. Account limits allow us to learn about your selling activity and make sure you're adhering to our selling practices policy and performance standards. Limits vary by seller and can change over time.

During this time, we want to confirm you are continuing your positive history by ensuring you are keeping focused on creating great transactions for your customers. Doing so will greatly increase the chances of an ongoing successful eBay business and help to avoid any future account issues that may arise. These limits will allow you to continue selling while also allowing us to monitor your incoming Feedback, Detailed Seller Ratings, and any customer complaints. Please understand that the actions we have taken do not mean your account performance is not good, but we do this to help all eBay sellers further improve their selling history and account performance.

Because you are doing well at selling at these volumes, you should not hit your selling limit unless you dramatically increase your sales. However, if you do wish to grow your business, we will gradually increase your limit as you show that you are able to successfully handle the higher sales volume. The selling limit on your account is based on the number and dollar amount of open (active) items and successfully sold items per calendar month.

You can now sell up to 1,000 items monthly or up to $100,000.00 monthly.  (Keep in mind that this includes multiple quantity listings which can greatly influence this number.)

If you do reach one of these amounts during the course of a month you will be unable to list additional items or increase the price or quantity of your active items until some of your items end without a winning bidder or until the 1st of the next calendar month, (If you are still exceeding the selling limit at the first of the next calendar month your selling activity will continue to be blocked.)

We believe that your limit is flexible enough to allow you to sell any current items and is in accordance with the volume you may have listed in the past. If you do reach the selling limit on your account and want to increase your sales, please work within the amount for at least 30 days. Once that time frame has expired on April 11, 2014, please reply to this message and we will conduct a review to see if adjustments are appropriate.

We hope that you will use this selling limit to your advantage and focus on succeeding with your current sales. We value you as a seller and hope to work with you in order to continue to establish a strong selling history and successful business relationship. It is in our best interest to help our sellers succeed so that we can have a positive trading environment and eliminate bad buying experiences on the site.

eBay / Ebay Tips & Tricks..
« on: February 09, 2014, 04:15:06 PM »
I use Buy It Now a lot on ebay for 30 days and like everyone else, I normally have to keep recycling those items every 30 days because they didn't sell..

When ebay tosses me those free gazillion listings, I normally will end those 30 day listings and just re-list them to get a fresh 30 days for free, if they don't have watchers on it..

eBay / Everything you want to know about eBay..
« on: January 25, 2014, 10:47:14 AM »
Here's what I know about eBay, their are some other very knowledgeable sellers that have posted some very valid tips.

1) Always use 12 photos - No matter what - It's going to give you the biggest bump. Make up photos, whatever it takes, show the item next to a ruler, the box it ships, anything you can think of.

2) If you have say 50 shirts to sell, always do GOOD TO CANCEL, this will maintain all your watchers and sold counts and this will also boost you in the search relevancy.

3) Being a Top-Rated Seller helps boost search rankings.. Their are pro's and con's some cons are you have to include tracking numbers, so no sending out baseball cards using postage stamps. It's going to count against you, you have to maintain 90% of what you sell with tracking. So some items will cost a little more to sell but the benefit is great.

   a) Using fake tracking numbers to keep you in compliance will ultimately get you busted.

4) Always use Fast and Free shipping (They get a bump also in rankings). So when you're selling multiple "Fast and Free is the way to go" along with Good To Cancel, with 12 photos.

5) Ending times on auction, It's different based on gender and merchandise categories.  Call eBay and ask for advice on when to end an auction for particular categories.

6) Theirs a new feature, not all accounts have it enable, its still in beta called, Relist your items up to 3 times automatically if it don't sell. Using this feature will re-list the items at no charge and no use of a free insertion.

7) If you need additional keywords to trigger that don't fit in a title, create Item Specifics for those keywords.

8) Always use the Ebay Global Shipping program, all you have to do is mail the item to ebays shipping center which is a commercial address, I sell a lot of items through it.

9) 1 day handling and 14 day+ return policy, gets you better search results.

10) Get yourself a label printer, if your doing first class postage on small packages, I use the QL-710W brother - Prints out a small label that can easily fit on small envelopes and packages.

11) Get yourself two scales, I have 3, one for measuring lbs, one for ounces and one for grams (I use for selling precious metals online)

12) Get yourself a box sizer (reducing box sizes save on packing material and dimensional weight).

13) If you can manage 2 ebay accounts, do it, once for being a top rated seller and one for selling things that don't qualify for top rated seller.

My dad is one of those crazy sellers on eBay with a gazillion feedback, I'm just starting out. I had many conversations with eBay regarding selling, this is what I have learned.

General Storage Auction Talk / Used Postcards, Ticket Stubs, Etc..
« on: December 28, 2013, 01:52:54 AM »
I was looking up where a person lived from a locker I bought, because they had some post cards addressed to them that they saved..

I had eBay up on my other monitor, and I decided to type in "Grand Cayman Postcard" and selected Used, sold listings.

And they apparently sell for a few dollars... Same with used concert tickets and events tickets..

I never thought to even look those up, normally just toss that stuff out.

New to Storage Auctions? / High End Funiture
« on: July 12, 2012, 01:36:10 PM »
What's the best place to sell high end furniture?

Let's say you got a designer cabinet worth 15,000.  You can't really list that on Craigslist for 7500 and expect someone to buy it.  Where else can you move it..

Consignment? Anyone type of furniture dealer that will buy it outright?
