What's it Worth?? / Re: Vase Value Pls
« on: February 01, 2013, 06:26:31 PM »
If that flower that looks applied is porcelain, then I think it might be a cousin to this: http://compare.ebay.com/like/300705790337?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar

Best I can do for now. Good luck!

(and remember, that $80 is an asking price, not what it might actually sell for.)

Is it glass? porcelain?
Are there any marks on the bottom?
Do you have more photos, closer up, of the vase and of its base?
I'll try to help, but need more info.

What's it Worth?? / Navajo jewelry, old bottles
« on: November 05, 2012, 09:04:57 PM »
I wouldn't say I'm a bona fide, Antiques Roadshow-quality "expert" in these two categories, but I know way, way, way more than I should about Navajo and nearby (Southwestern) tribal sterling jewelry, and old medicine and soda water bottles.

I also do well in the "what exactly IS this old thing" game. ;D

Holler if you have a question about old stuff. I've been collecting/flipping antiques and vintage stuff since I was a little kid. It's in the DNA! ;)

Howdy from yet another Texan, out in the boonies. Welcome!

That would be the cast iron sewing machine base with marble top I got for $4 at a yard sale. But gosh darn it, since there was a chip in the marble, I'm keeping it. ;)

Garage Sales / Re: Rummage sale pricing<question>
« on: July 03, 2012, 08:43:15 PM »
I prefer tags. It gives me some idea of whether the sellers want to sell what they have, or think they've opened Sotheby's on their patio.

If you choose to tag your items, then please, please don't leave pricing to the people (such as the one you described) who look things up on ebay, see an asking price for a mint condition specimen, and decide that the asking price is the market price, and that their beat-up version of the item should sell for the same amount. Nothing sends me back to my car faster than going to a garage sale that has ebay listing printouts taped to items!

Gosh, that was a bit of a tirade, huh?  ::) Good luck with your sales!

I was the only bid.
Wow! Where did this miracle occur, if I might ask? (she said, bright green with envy!)

I gotta say, as someone who's bought/sold/collected old stuff all my life, that is one of the coolest things I've EVER seen! Good find!

Howdy! Fellow lurker from Limestone County here. I don't do storage auctions, but I'm a lifelong "treasure hunter."

What's it Worth?? / Re: Antique rough sewing machine
« on: March 27, 2012, 09:15:43 PM »
Here's what I would do with it: take the iron base off, sandblast it, paint it black, put a wooden top on it and sell it as a table for about $150, maybe more, depending on where you live. (I say that as I type atop just such a table!)

You also could make stuff from the drawers, put a top on them and create little mini cabinets, and sell those.

I agree, there's no value in the sewing machine in that condition.

Just my 2 cents worth.
