The "Other" Job / My full time "other job" is

I am a national sales director for a telecom company. Have been in the high tech business all my life and am burned out on technology. Besides that the industry has changed and diminished so significantly over the last five years it's a difficult place to be. What I am hoping to do is to turn what is now a sideline hobby into a full fledged business I can take into my retirement. Is anyone really making a supportable living at this?

Thats a good idea, at least you could cover your dumping costs that way. I'm planning on eventually opening a store mid year 2011 and see where it goes. Maybe I'll be one of your buyers! My brother and sister in law started a small antique shop 5 years ago up near Helen Ga. Took a while to catch on and build a clientell but it is doing well enough that they are planning on it for their retirment. Thats kind of where I'm at. Looking 3 to 5 years down the road to doing this full time....

Thanks, I'm certain I'll learn a lot. I'm planning on calling several storage places this week and find an auction or two that I can go attend and observe. I also plan on subscribing to the newsletter and see how many of these auctions actually exist in the ATL area.

Hello evryone. Isn't this  agreat site? hope it grows a lot more. I've been selectivly buying and selling pieces, collectibles etc etc for a while as a sideline hobby more or less. Now I find myself at 57.5 working for a company that looks like it will be closing in 3 to 6 months and asking myself, what do you want to do with the rest of your life. The corporate rat race is not the answer, been there done that. So, Ive decided to try my hand at storage auctions, picking, etc etc and see where it may lead while I still have a good job. The ultimate goal would be to do this full time for a living if it is possible to make a living at it. Is it? Not looking to get rich just to do what I enjoy and pay the bills. Any advice will be appreciated and I look forward to chatting with everyone as I learn the ropes. Here's to a prosperous new year for us all!!!!  ;D
