Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Hunter Show
« on: July 15, 2011, 06:59:52 AM »
Tom has also been doing the DOOR TO DOOR and The PODS Auctions here in New England for a few years .    I can't picture Him getting involved with the TV Auction " Bunch " UNLESS  they do a LOT of EDITING back in the studio .
The Auction Hunters scenes filmed around here are supposed to air this month , I can't wait to see if they change the names of the small towns they were filmed in .

Lets Pretend this is Fox News , I'll Post , You Decide .
Like a lot of others on here , We store our finds away from our real address , 45 min. away in our case . We have two 12 X 30 ft. lockers w/lights and elect .
back a few months ago we were cleaning and organizing them , when people started stopping and looking in and asking if this was the Auction ???  NO
Turns out thy were having an auction , but only advertise in the local paper .             An old guy stuck his head in and said , it looks like You two do the same thing I do . He scored two and told us He got one the other day at the one with the TV Film Crew there ? ( I think He said it was in Boylston or West Boylston , Mass. not sure )
Told us  the pro's from Ca. won a locker for $ 2600 .                                              After everyone left ,  He was emptying out His Locker ( near there's ) and they were in there locker re-shooting the auction again   ,   This Time They WON IT for             $ 4200.
He couldn't tell Us who they were , as he doesn't watch TV .
We went to a new to us country auction ( went two or three times last year ) and someone asked the auctioneer  about the TV shows .
He was there bidding against them , they bragged ,  We have  the money and were getting all the good ones , you locals might as well go home .
The locals pushed them up on every locker , in the end three of them Pooled there money and they took the best locker from them .
He said it was TON and His Skinny Little  Friend .
  Bob
I want to say again , We were not there , this is all 2nd. , hand info ,                        but I wish We had been     ;)

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: First Storage Auction..........
« on: July 14, 2011, 09:46:11 PM »
We have gotten DISCOURAGED enough in the last year over the INSANE Bids on Total Junk , that We only stop by an Locker Auction if We have " Other Business "    in the area for a Chuckle .                                                                                                              Ex.  On Our way to a general auction in Maine or New Hampshire and there is a Locker Auction  in a town close to a  Lobster , Clam Shack , or Homemade  Ice Cream  Stand .     ;D
It is only going to get worse , with all the " Good Finds "  the shows are uncovering all over the country . ( Two of the shows  were just here in Mass. )
Plus the " NEW " Storage Hunters show on "Not" TruTV   ::)

« on: July 14, 2011, 08:43:02 PM »
  Thanks
The market in Brimfield , Ma. that She sets up in is only open  three times a year in May. , July , and Sept.  and only open for two days , Fri. and Sat.
It's a little pricey for two days .   ;D
But if You check there web site under Show Photos , and look at the Gate when they open it it 8:00 AM Fri.  , You will see why We do it .  ( and  Nothing We brought was found in  a Locker  LOL )

« on: July 14, 2011, 10:59:06 AM »
I we flipped a coin and headed to the tip of Cape Cod saturday to check out a flea market (same milage to  Cape Cod   and /or  Old Orchid Beach Maine ) We stopped  selling there 10 yrs. ago , saw some old friends , prices  at a new low .                           Ex.  leather belts use to be from $ 10 to $ 14 now all  @ $ 4.00  ( same mfg's as before , Sunglasses   $ 4 to $ 6 .  .
There were only about 75 dealers    but Sun.  they were expecting over 250 and a big crowd .
What We noticed was that NO One was carrying any purchases , Daughter went to buy me a water at the snack bar $ 3.00 , no thanks , We left for fried Clams down the street .
Will have to head Down to Maine in two weeks to check one out there .
Can't do it this weekend as We Leaving in an Hour to go take down one of our 20 X 20 tents and set it up  at Brimfield for the wife .

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: all cash sale but what about deposit?
« on: July 14, 2011, 09:55:39 AM »
Ironman
We started off by selling a bunch of items We had at home and no longer needed or wanted such as tools, furniture, jewelry, hunting gear etc etc.
We bought our first three units and didn't buy another until we sold enough stuff to replenish our
"SEED" money
We don't  use credit cards and won't. We'd rather walk away from a unit than do that.

 I didn't know I had a Twin in Ga. ?    ;D

"  I just take the old 25" tvs to recyling and get 6  cents a pound....100 pound TV....$6.00....take in 3 or 4 at a time it adds up. "

I wish I could get that much for a non working TV or Computer Monitor , most commercial recyclers will charge a minimum of $ 25 to drop any thing off , or only take bulk loads from companire , schools , towns etc.
In My town it is $ 25 min. pre paid to the town for a pick up .
          The Commonwealth of Massachusetts DEP
regulations prohibit the disposal of computer
monitors and televisions in the rubbish, due to the
lead content in the cathode ray tubes.
The Town of Natick will collect and recycle
these items. Computers and televisions are
$25.00 each . and are collected as bulky waste.
In the used furniture store locker We won , there were 3 tv's , two we had to smash the  out of the console and pay $ 25 each to dump . ( I have a free source , but not in volume or right now  )

As for My area for a quick sale Tv's $ 25.   washer and dryer $ 50 ea.  , those shopping on Craig's don't want to spend much for regular items .
You see them advertised for a lot more , but the adds just keep getting renewed week after week  ::)

We use a combination of  Van , pick-up , SUV , trailers and  when moving lockers .
We hook up our 1/2 ton dodge p/u or my daughters Durango to our 7 X 12 Holmes open trailer for a dump run , and put the goodies on our 18 ft cam-superline  flatbed car hauler behind our one ton dodge maxi van .
For flea markets , the van plus the 12 ft. trailer fit two 20 ft. spaces nicely .
 Bob
Ps.
We started out with just a class 2 hitch on what ever We were driving at the time and renting         U-Haul Trailers for locker clean outs and flea markets .
Pps.
I would of recommended a Astro to You as they can tow 5,000 lbs.  when set up right for towing , but You mentioned it was uncomfortable for You .
Just find something that You like/fit that can tow a trailer small P/U Ex. Dodge Dakota after you make a little  cash with a U-haul , Buy a small open trailer $ 1,000.  it just takes time , ( mine were $ 2,600 and    $ 3,600 )

Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Hi From Mass.
« on: July 12, 2011, 08:02:17 PM »
Hi We are Bob , Claire , and Cheryl .
We started going to storage auction's in 1990 when a fellow vendor  at a flea market in Maine sold our 5 yr . old daughter a duffel bag full of camping gear ( New Tent and Sleeping Bag , Axe , Stakes , and  Cooking Gear etc. ) for $ 5.00 , told Us it came from a storage locker , and invited Us to the next auction  .
Ron Maynard was just getting His " Storage Auctions Solutions " auction business off the ground , and there were usually the same 4 to 6 bidders and Us at every auction .
We didn't push them up on lockers that We knew they wanted , and they returned the favor by often asking if We wanted this one and then All walking away leaving the three of Us and the Auctioneer standing there .                                                                                                                 As they say the rest is history .  We do it now off and on , but have pulled back do to the unreal crowds and insane prices caused by the TV shows.
Our Biggest haul was 3 lockers by the same owner , a trucking Co. a used office furniture store, and a used furniture store .   for $ 175 ,    ( made that back off the other dealers ) they gave Us a month to clean it out , plus two more lockers for $ 5.00 ea. got 5 new appliance dolly's and 26 new furniture dolly's for a starter .
Our Best moment   was when We traveled to Ca. ,Az, and Nm. for the winter and hit a few local auctions , One of the BIG Auctioneer's that travels all over the country  selling for one company and is in Boston often , walked by Us in Az. and said Hi Bob , Hi Claire , We said Hi Tom , He walked about 10 more feet and whipped around with His jaw dropped . LOL
  Ps.
The Star Actors on Forbidden Storage / Storage Hunters on TRU-TV  were our neighbors before moving to the Left Coast . But I have no comments for a public forum
