Not much.  Mostly its first month paid, second month free.  I rarely rent the space unless its bigger then a 10x10.

So we had a thought....

No one buys CRT TV's, or VCR and VHS tapes.  But we found a good combination that were going to try.

1 CRT tv
1 VCR
40 VHS tapes....all animated and kid stuff.

Sell it as "Recover your TV from the kids" and put $20 on it. 

Think it will sell? 

We bought two lockers this weekend, not really thinking about the heat that was coming up....I mean hey they were 10x5's, stuffed pretty good on one of them, but still....just 10x5's.

I think we almost both died.

90 degrees outside...hey no problem.  100 degrees as we enter the door....hmmm...ok this is not fun.  110 degrees as we hit the top of the stairs.  OK this is BAD.  REALLY bad.  Then the realization that....theres no elevator in this building.

1/3 of the way through we are sweating hard.  I mean REALLY hard.

2/3 of the way through, we're both a bit punch drunk.  Having some issues.  And we've drank all of the water we had with. 

Done....almost passed out in the locker.  Wife wasnt doing any better.  We're both panting like we ran a marathon just moving a box.  The heat was kicking us all over.  In retrospective....we should have just said forget it, and finished up the next day, or left and got water, but we were worried about moving the second locker, and finishing before gate close.  No joke...this could have gone a lot worse then we had considered.  We haven't sweated so much since we went to boot camp.

Unloading was fine....1 am at our shop, no stairs, and we had water.  Drunk guy hassled us for a ride home after he missed the last bus.  But no issues.  Just tired from earlier.

So lesson learned...second locker the next day.
We brought a ton of water.  This was still 110, another second story locker, and a some work. 

Water makes all the difference.  A cooler full of ice and water bottles.  It can save your life in this weather.

Nice!  I would have bought the unit just to replace my AC unit  

I swear sometimes thats the most awesome thing about some of these units.  Ohhh!!! shiny!  *I* want that!

So we bought two units on the 18th, one the haunted house unit for $50 which I posted about elsewhere.

The first unit of the day is not a unit I generally get because some folks are superstitious about buying the first locker at a caravan.  But this one popped up, a nice couch that would look good in the shop, a dvd player that I thought was a bluray player, and a few other items caught my eye.  $300 was our limit.  And...it went up to $260.  I was very sad about that as what I could see would break even there, and not leave much room for profit-and given prices later I know I was bid up heavily.  That being said...under a piece of clothing...a expresso machine.  $300 new, $100 in the shop.  The couch was as nice as we thought $100, a 14mp digital camera new-$80...$30 in the shop.  a case of dvd's...$2 each for $40 (and another 20 we are keeping to watch lol).  Then some REALLY nice clothing.  A small desktop gumball machine.  Other various things still to be discovered as we go through things.  About one box of photos and personal papers returned to office.  I hope he picks them up.  Overall...a break even unit I think.  We shall see as I go through more. 

A small tool unit showed up, we put our limit at $300, but unfortunately only had enough cash on us for $200.  It went for 225.

A unit with a very large safe, and a business sign.  We passed on it.  In retrospect we should have big some for the safe as it was a very nice safe, and the sign might have been worth something either as scrap or to the right buyer.  But..it went for more then we would have been willing to pay.  I think $400?

A locker...with a small suitcase and a box....We were willing to toss $25 at it...but a bidding war between two folks got it up to $85.  WTH?  Really?  Yup.

A locker with a old crt computer monitor and a bunch of...well..it looked like trash.  Our limit-$10 to indulge our curiosity.  We bid, one of the regulars bid $15...and...then begged someone to bid on it again.  As we walked off I told him we dropped the locker on him.  LOL.  Pretty friendly guy later chatted with him the next day and he said it was all trash except for one thing that he hoped to get $...15 for.  Course thats not counting dump fees.  Apparently it was a meth dealer who got evicted for selling meth to his neighbor according to the paperwork.  At $10 I was willing to gamble.  Not at $15.

A...We called it the cat unit.  It had some misc stuff, and three large cat structures.  I wanted it for our cats...but wife shot the idea down saying who knows what our cats could catch.  In the end...no one bid on it, and it went unsold. 

300 sq ft is VERY tiny.  you will find out that you are quickly overwhelmed.  Even at 900 sq ft our first shop is kinda small.

Forget the selling out of the storage unit, most places management will find they dont like the traffic.

For me its....a small shop selling stuff, and craigslist and ebay.  Craigslist can pickup at my shop, which drives foot traffic and keeps weird people from showing up at my home.  (Well other then me and my family-we're kinda weird).

Wife found the original owner while calling around to the established haunted house businesses.  Apparently it was her fathers, he died, medical bills etc.  She offered 1K or less for it (which is probably what was owed in storage fees).  We passed.  Kinda feel for her, but theres good value here, and we have others coming out to look.  I suspect the offer was....what she has. not what its worth.  And if it was her fathers...most likely she would resell it.  Its not....Items of personal value per se.

We did learn-boxes of costumes, fog machines, laser lights, and black lights are in the back.  And more.  We have a few folks scheduling to look at it, with $3500 offers it looks like.  Even then it might be cheap for them, but.....we paid $50, plus $300 to rent the locker....sooo.....

So a 12x36 unit...PACKED 10 feet high completely full.

Its a complete haunted house setup.

We went to the auctions today, and...the unit has a haunted house build in it.  No one wanted it.  Finally the auctioneer said...ok look if anyone wants it...$50.  My wife went for it. 

This is a bad sign Im thinking.  NO ONE WANTS THIS HUGE AMOUNT OF STUFF....not even for $50.

And I can kinda see why Its TONS of work.  Literally there is tons of stuff here!

BUT....Theres display cases, tables, tons of stuff we can use in the shop that I can see!  But...im going to pass because...Its just too much stuff right now.  My wife however has different ideas.

So....we own everything needed to setup a haunted house.  3,600 cubic feet of stuff!  Looking online I find a website for these things, apparently they are big business, and can go for thousands of dollars.  We moved some stuff just to try and see...and...theres a stack of wrought iron fence 10 feet high, wallboards two stacks 10' high.  A patient chair (online selling for $600 on ebay), there...well..theres literally tons of stuff.  two projector screens, and sooo much more.  but...we cant get too deep into it.  We've had to rent the unit because its just too much storage. 

We literally cannot see 2/3rds of whats in it.

Its crazy.  Soo...wifes going to try and sell it.

Outlay:  $50 to buy the unit, $310 to rent it.  I really cant see us losing money even if we part everything out.  But theres some serious value here.  And...we dont even know what 2/3rds of what is in the unit.

Some guys going to cry when he sees we paid $50 for this.
