General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Eating on the go

I pack a lunch and tons of bottled water in a cooler.  I am in Texas after all and it gets really hot.  Though lately the RaceTrack in the Dallas area offers a free refill cup that I have been using for tea and water.

General Storage Auction Talk / Why do you buy?
« on: June 18, 2014, 09:17:39 AM »
I love having real online units to discuss here on the forum.  We can see into our fellow forum members minds a little.  My question is why do you buy a certain unit.  We all know price makes a huge difference but what are the nuisances you look for?

I love sealed commercial boxes.  Stuff that is NIB gets my juices flowing.  I also like tons of industrial machines.  People hate to deal with that stuff but I have a good source that will pick up scrap and give me a fair price.  And of course I love neatly stacked high end bins.  The ones with the snap on handles.

$3k reserve tough for that unit.  The buyer took a lot of care setting it up but it would be a massive amount of work and no mystery.  Nothing amazing will be found in the unit.  Still Travis is right you can defiantly make a profit but imo its to high an amount to tie up your money.  If you have a huge bankroll and a store then it would be doable.

It is really neatly stacked and shows care.  Also the hangers are the nicer wooden ones.  I don't think it is to much of a gamble if you have a venue to sell all of that. You should be able to get a grand for everything with the upside of something really nice in there.   It would take minimal work to get everything out since they are all stacked and boxed.  This person clearly took care of their stuff, now that doesn't meant he Dr Dre Beats are in the box or any of the electronics.
My guess would be $1100 and I certainly think it is overpriced but you can still make a small profit or small loss.  Upside could be a gun case and nice china silverware in the bins.

Thanks so much Luke. That is some great info.
I would also try selling the old HDs on eBay for people that do data recovery.
Here is a good article

I tried to call the company as well and got nothing.

Still crowded and high prices but less knowledge.  They are a lot of looky loos and the pros are specific on what they want.  I usually can still get in a steal or two a week.
I am working on selling my inventory before I go back out.  I have made a few good scores and now need to make some space and clear clutter.
I am going to try my first online storage unit as a seller in a week or two.

I am stuck with a bunch of working dell monitors that I cannot even sell for $10.  Going to post them as a lot to get rid of them all at once for $10.  Some computers are salvageable if they work but usually go to the scrap yard.
No more computers for me unless there is something else in the unit.
Laptops and Apple products are the exception.

yep we were looking at the same one.  I assumed they would not sell so trying to figure if it was worth scrapping.  Figure it was going to go for a steal.

If they are clear and you can check by calling Direct TV you are allowed to sell them.  But you are right most are leased that's why I was thinking about scrapping them.  Even broken down they are not worth anything. So I try to keep power cords, cables, and cards.

Travis not sure if this is the right place for this but we need a scrapping section.
Recently I discovered scrapping and it is a great way to supplement your finds.
First question of the day
Scrapping Direct TV and Dish Network receivers.
Of course if they are not active than you can sell them on eBay but honestly I have never found one that is not on an account.
Looks like there is not much that can be done from my recycler.  I keep all the cables of course and I hear the access cards has some gold in them.
Anyone else have better luck.

I am looking for $2000 and hope I can get it from the Skyline rep.  He seems interested.  Its huge Travis I have instructions for a 20x20 space. Looks like everything is there but honestly I am not sure.  I'll let you know if the Skyline guy passes.

General Storage Auction Talk / Usual Junk
« on: June 03, 2014, 05:00:03 PM »
I have had some good success but here is a story of the usual crap in a storage unit.
When the door opened I saw stacks of boxes of new items.  The writing on the was Colours - Cinnamon or Colour Copper
I took a chance and got the 10x20 for $300.  I could also see a couple of boxes of elliptical machines and a Curio.
Well the stuff in the boxes was hair dye shampoo from a salon that is now out of business.  The elliptical machines and curio says "returned"
Luckily there was a nice vanity and wooden dresser.
But also there was an ancient exercise bike that is at least as old as me.  A typewriter and tons of junk.  This woman was a hoarder and must of bought stuff at auctions etc.
Going to be a lot of work.
