Sure, we all want to find gold bars, vintage collectibles, but what DO we (or you) find in storage auction lockers on a regular basis?

I'll start:

Mattresses (mostly bad, some good)

When I posed this question 3 years ago RFR had this to say:

What shocks me more is just overall how people pay to store crap. Even a small unit is like $35 a month in my area. So many units are just old clothes you know people will never wear again. Old patio furniture people will never use again.

It seems like many people store stuff that in the end they are just gonna wind up throwing away or giving to goodwill anyway. I really don't get it.

Any thoughts from forum members here in February, 2014

•   In January of 2011 a member named Mr. Andersen said this :

So is it like they say, that there are more good stuff in CA???
Here in memphis where i am, it can be either hit or miss, and when you miss you miss BADLY, lol and when you find a good one it is never like you see on tv from CA. The best i find is new stuff like, car parts, jewelry, and furniture. Sometimes odd collectibles.
But i have never seen guns, pinball machines, jukeboxes, or any of the good stuff on tv. lol

How about it California members….is it true that crap in California is better than crap everywhere else ?

eBay / Misleading Listing on eBay
« on: February 07, 2014, 08:47:07 AM »
I recently bought an ac adapter for a laptop on eBay.

After researching by price I found one model made in China that was selling for $10 to $15 and was being marketed by a number of sellers.

I picked the seller that was closest to me (located in a town only 50 miles from me) thinking I would get it quickly that way.

Now I see (despite their eBay location indiator) that they are shipping it by DHL Global. That tells me it's coming directly from China and instead of two day delivery I am looking at 12 day delivery.

That's annonying from a usefulness standpoint (I have to work-around not having this adapter until the new one comes) but also from an ethical standpoint.

Companies shouldn't falsely advertise WHERE their product is anymore than they would advertise any other incorrect aspect of the product.

Anyone who has browsed the internet or received unwanted email might be interested in reading this article from the New York Times....America's most respected newspaper...well, at least in some states.

General Storage Auction Talk / Where have "all" the posters gone ?
« on: February 06, 2014, 09:17:37 AM »
The last 4 days or so the "only" people posting are Travis and I.

What's happened to HGP, RFR, Cobia, Teacher, Alloro, Calcoastgal....geez, that's a pretty small group to keep this thing going.

Edit:

I looked back through the last 50 posts (through part of Feb 4, 2014) and of those posts, 44 or so were made by Travis and I. BWD made one and Luke had a few. Alloro had a couple.

Why would a company give up a product that made it 2 BILLION dollars a year ?

If CAREMARK is part of your name it might be a good decision in the long run.

United Kingdom / Storage Auctions U.K. >>>>>>>February, 2014
« on: February 04, 2014, 02:03:12 PM »
After Alloro indicated there WERE in fact auctions in the U.K. I did a quick search and found that every auction source (auctioneers, forums, etc) just glommed on to the request but provide nothing but USA info.....until....

I found this link which actually goes to a U.K. address.  Click on the link and see what the story is about.

I got this from an email I was sent by Storage Auction Experts here in California.

One of the auctioneers for them made it on TV but for another reason; here's the story.

Craig on National TV

Many of you are familiar with Storage Auction Experts auctioneer Craig Plante. Some of you may not know he worked 27 years for the City of Modesto as a Police Officer and retired as a Sergeant. Just before he retired, he cracked a 9 year old "Cold Case Murder" and helped the victim's family have some closure.

In November, the TV Show "On the Case with Paula Zahn" contacted Craig to talk to him about this case. The National TV Network, Discovery ID, thought it was a good case to base a TV segment on, so they flew him back to New York to their studio for an interview. The show also contacted Modesto Police for background pertaining to this homicide.

A week from Sunday, on February 9th the episode Craig is featured on will air on Discovery ID. The name of the episode is "Cry On My Shoulder". In the Modesto area this show is on at 10:00 pm but different areas and different cable providers might have a different time.

We are happy to have such an outstanding professional such as Craig Plante to be part of the team with Storage Auction Experts. Very few people can say they solved "A Cold Case".

This isn't your typical auction story....proceeds will go to charity.  Here's one link to where the car is currently sitting in Manteca, CA at a Ford dealership.  There are also YouTube videos of the car.

Car is valued at 1.5 million...be interesting to see what it goes for.  Buy it, move it around the country and charge admission !

Here's a link to some online (5 I think) auctions in Sacramento, CA.  They end at 6 pm 2 3 14 Pacific time.

When I used to go to this chain they were all bad lockers and the chain had a bad rep. Don't know what their rep is now.

Photos taken from the door just like a live auction.  Good luck buyers !

Stories about Storage Auctions / Auction Scene #2....February, 2014
« on: January 31, 2014, 12:30:04 AM »
Going to be busy on Feb 1, 2014 so am getting a jump start on this thread.

I have to say the auction scene isn't as exciting or as rewarding as it was in the past, but it's still interesting to hear the good and the bad stories even if most of them come from only a handful of forum members.

So....get going FEBRUARY.

eBay / Another Reason To Use Firefox for eBay
« on: January 29, 2014, 09:13:41 AM »
OK, this is ridiculous....Internet Explorer problems with eBay....

For the last two days (January 29, 2014) IE won't show results of pushing the completed listings button after having done a search for a currently listed item.

We all know that the COMPLETEDS is what is important to us as sellers so we can more accurately price our items.

So...... I switched over to FIREFOX and no problems. Works as it should.

Why in the world a big outfit like Microsoft can't get things working right ... or leave well enough alone when things are working is beyond my understanding.
