eBay / Re: Internet sales tax - say no before it's too late!
« on: November 13, 2014, 09:43:35 AM »
I got this message as well from ebay and others. Great thing to post travis. I'd encourage everyone to call or write your legislators or sign these online petitions. THe same people who are too lazy to do this will be the loudest voices complaining when this happens and this will shut most of you out of ecommerce as its literally impossible to keep up with tax rates from every city, state county, etc you sell to, its an accounting nightmare. I have already signd a number of petitions and called my states legislators as well. Please others do the same

Just curious your guys opinion on whether the time, money, and effort spent hustling storage units and selling the merchandise is worth the return?

A few years back I was all about storage auctions. Stumbled into the ecommerce arena which in some ways is the same as storage auctions but found I could make more money easier and without having to put in as much time as with storage auctions.

None the less I'm planning on getting back into storage auctions, partially for the money but even more so just because I enjoy the surprise of finding whats in a locker, finding things for myself to use around my home as well as finding items to resell.

I guess my point for me personally though I'll gladly take the money if it were strictly aboutthe money imho there's easier ways to make a buck, this really is a hustle, but I enjoy it so thats why I'm still doing it.

I already commented with my experience but for others I think some people literally think every unit is stuffed with cash or valualbe antiques. I think for many people just looking for a side hustle this is a low investment no commitment hustle to try out, if you like it you can expand, if you don't or you aren't successful bow out and all you lose is whatever you spend on that first locker.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Rivalry - friendly or not
« on: November 10, 2014, 03:58:57 PM »
I think for the most part the rivalry at my areas auctions are friendly. The only time it gets unfriendly is when you have someone there who htinks they know it all who is new to the scnee or someone who is trying to buy up every last locker. I know its a free setup anyone can do what they want but in my area especially on osme of the circuit auctions where everyone follows the auctioneer around for the day there's kind of an unspoken rule of get a locker or two and go home. If you continue hanging around bidding on every locker everyone else is gonna team up on you and make you pay.

Finally sold 3 of the 4 computers. Didn't get quite what I wanted for any of them but still doing pretty good. Basically made my money back including ebay fees and postage off the first 3, last computer is gonna be all profit. If I really waited for the right buyer I could probably get at least $600 but I'm thinking I just wanna move it fast and get a quick $400. Oddly enough wound up selling all on ebay as craigslist proved to be too big of a headache.

eBay / Getting your first neg feedback is actually very freeing!!!
« on: November 10, 2014, 03:48:32 PM »
For the longest time I had thousands of positive feedback and had never been dinged with a negative feedback. It reminds me of when you get a new car and you are crazy about not getting it dinged or scratched and once you get a ding or two you stop caring so much.

That is how it was with my ebay account. I was going overboard catering to demanding customers all trying to avoid getting a negative feedback kissing butt and giving refunds when they really weren't deserved or were a customer mistake. I recently lost my top rated seller and power seller standing because of trying to claim final value fees back. I kind of stoped caring and its actually very freeing that I'm not jumping through hoops to keep that.

The discounts were nice but nothing that huge, main discounts were on USPS postage but I ship all fedex these days so that didn't really help me out anymore.

Just thought it was worth noting as I imagine others out there have the same logic as I had so protective of ebay account but once you get a bad feedback or lose stnading you really don't have to be as paranoid about ebay.

I had a customer the other day who basically said before I leave feedback I'd like you to refund me because I saw a seller on ebay selling this item for such and such amount of money. He wanted me to refund him 6 puchases over the course of the last year. I told him not only is that a totally different selling platform but there's people selling the same thing at various prices all over ebay, if he wnated best price and iddn't care about service or feedback he should hvae bought from someone else. Told him I provide a superior service and charge a bit more for it. We got into a big thing and basically he said he was going to leave me bad feedback. Told him my thousands of good feedbacks will outweigh his go right ahead. Needless to say he never left me bad feedback and I didn't have to cave to an extortionist.

eBay / Signature Limits Raised
« on: November 10, 2014, 03:45:22 PM »
Just curious if anyone else has noticed this. I personally didn't see a notification but my business partner mentioned he saw either paypal or ebay upped the signature required to $750 instead of $250. I think he said this was paypal so ebay items are still $250 but on larger ticket items sold just through paypal you only need a sig if above $750. Personally this is going to save me a lot of money as over volume that $2 or 2.5 dollars they charge per order adds up.

eBay / Re: eBay automatically opens unpaid item case after 3 days
« on: November 10, 2014, 03:35:12 PM »
The settings on your account are set to do this. You can personally be in control of unpaid item cases or you can automate it, yours is automated.

Some stuff didn't go for quite the prices I was hoping for but still gonna wind up doing okay. Pretty much made my money off 3 of the 4 computers so the last one will be money in the bank trying to get 700 but thinking 400 or 500 is more likely.

eBay / Re: What's the worst feedback you've ever read on eBay?
« on: October 25, 2014, 07:47:13 AM »
I only have one negative feedback on my ebay accounts but its for a BS reason. You know how when you sell "lots" of an item you show everything in a photo but the listing is only for a certain quantity. FOr example say an auction like 10 mixed lots coins from around the world or something like that I may take a pic of a table full of coins though listing description and title will say you get 10 coins. Had a buyer complained he thought he was getting everything in the pic and left bad feedback.

eBay / Re: Do you solicit feedback on eBay?
« on: October 25, 2014, 07:44:51 AM »
I have my account setup to send an autoreminder to buyers after 10 days asking them to leave feedback. I don't pursue it after that though.

eBay / Re: Strange EBAY dispute resolution
« on: October 25, 2014, 07:43:48 AM »
Ebay and Paypal are tied together when it comes to disputes like this. If ebay rules something paypal will often automatically issue a refund or do whatever is needed to resolve the case. In your instance it sounds like the seller protection kicked in. Basically thats what ebay/ paypal buyer/seller protection is all about. Say for example I ship an item to you and you say you never received it but tracking showed delivered. Ebay/Paypal will typically give you a refund as long as you don't have a history of doing this, however the money will not come out of my account paypal will cover that loss because I did my part and have tracking to backup the fact I shipped and it was received.

I've never found that goldmine item worth thousands though I have found some good stuff. To me a great item is a whole tote bin full of thomas the train tracks and toys that go for a few bucks a pop or a designer purse or an expensive piece of electronics worht a few hundred bucks but I've never found a safe or gold bars or anything crazy like that

I got into this a little while before the shows started comming on so I really didn't know what to expect going in. I heard a friend talking about hearing about storage auctions. I happenned to have a day off work and was driving by a facility when I saw a sign that said auction today. I decided to check it out, they had one unit for auction in a silent bid format. I wound up winning, it was probably my best if not one of my best units to date. I was hooked after that.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: The small stuff?
« on: October 24, 2014, 04:52:50 PM »
I hate throwing anything out as I feel like I'm throwing money in the garbage but honestly I normally wind up clogging up my garage with this stuff for months and wind up giving it away to goodwill or selling for pennies at garage sales down the road anyway so I'm pretty quick to donate this kind of stuff. Its just not worth my time at garage sales or flea markets selling this stuf for a handful of pennies.
