General Storage Auction Talk / Going through locker and opening boxes for photos?
« Last post by bookasan on April 07, 2018, 01:16:29 PM »
I am keeping an eye on an auction with some very collectible items that were owned by a very well known person. The auction appears to include some very rare and one of a kind items.
I know when you go to a storage auction (I have been to many) you are not allowed to go inside and open boxes.
I thought this was the same for the auctioneers taking photos for online auctions.
This particular auction shows photos of them holding up items that were clearly in boxes and on shelves. I understand that because of the nature of the items in the auction it may go for a small fortune, but are they allowed to go through the locker like this?

Also, I understand photos and paper work are supposed to be returned, but what about in the case of said items being collectible? This may include some historical documentation that could be worth a small fortune.

Do you mean where to sell the individual items or where to sell the entire unit as a whole package?

I have 2 rooms devoted to this, one room for things i'm nostalgic for, another for the weird oddity type stuff.

Same here, except instead of rooms, that's what I decorate my house with. My style is a cross between Alice in Wonderland and Steampunk.

I've stopped following mainstream media a while back. They lost all credibility, at least in my book.

Same here. I cut the cable 2 years ago, don't miss it at all. Get all my movies/TV shoes for free off GoMovies. Don't watch news at all anymore. It's actually quite freeing. Now if I could only stay away from Facebook, I'd be doing good. LOL

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Old laptops/computers

I've been buying and reselling computers for the last couple of years as a hobby, mainly just so I can always have the latest and greatest technology. Unless you have something really high end, people just aren't willing to pay what it's worth. Bought an Alienware R17 at a pawn shop several months ago for $500, used it for a while and sold it for $850. Those kind of deals are rare, but usually, I could turn a $50-100 profit on each flip. If you keep up with technology and prices, you can actually make a decent living just buying PCs from pawn shops and reselling them on Craigslist.
