Post by: MovieMan on February 14, 2012, 07:54:51 PM
Yeehaw (or is that Ha, Ha ?)....

...anyway the  Texas chuckles begin Tuesday, March 6, 2012 and yes MO is still on the show.  :D

In the promo the non-Texan is already using "unbelievable" to describe a find...as before, I actually believe him....it IS   unbelievable !

Dang - I was hoping the crowds would start to die down after people spent the tax money and the shows were done for a bit.  They just keep coming.

WHAT A WASTE OF 30MIN

Well, since you're in broadcasting you know it's really only about 20 to 22 minutes of content and the other 8 to 10 is advertising; in this case we would have to say the commericals are more entertaining than the show.

So, maybe 66% to 75% wasted time if we give the commercials any credit at all.

I really hope Moe is the downfall of that show, most annoying thing about SWT, followed closely by Lesa.

season 2 will most likely be the last one. you don't even see reruns of the show. no one is watching it. they really should recast all the buyers.

The Texicans are back....details after the show.

Well, it’s March 6, 2012 and the Texas crew is back at it.

“You’d have to be a moron to buy this one.” Says the blonde. Well, go to it girl…you qualify !

Nope, Moe gets it.  Later he finds….a brass gizmo…a train whistle. I would guess it’s worth maybe $75…expert says….$500. I’ll look them up on eBay and report back here.

eBay completed:

**
Big Bubba gets it…mystery boxes. Avon bottles, McDonald Beanies (yikes !) dolls at an estimated $20 each (I get $3 if I’m lucky unless it’s an American Girl), Tesla item.  They drive 6 HOURS to have an expert look at it. (what idiots).

**

Next one “bring it” Lesa grabs it for $1450. Lots of totes off a center aisle. She says a garden hose holder will bring $25 I might bet $8. The surprise item (for the “newbies’ “ delight is in a box labeled “stand up”….it’s a…surprisingly ugly piece with two people riding horses (like a merry-go-round action). She calls it a mechanical cowboy. I couldn’t sell it for $20….expert says …..$8,500 for mid-50  Berringer advertising display rented to stores. The motif is western and the “animal skin” sign on the front says “Have no fear one of our beautiful diamonds will win her.”  Let’s see if eBay has one.

Victor (the non-Texan) goes home empty handed.

Now for new episode #2...

Auctioneer borrows the Dan Dotson “Are you ready to go?” (how original can you get?)

First one goes to…..Moe the schmo who is wearing a fur coat. Can we say Barry wanna-be?

Second one goes to….Lesa…take me out and shoot me; I can’t take one more “bring it” !

Starts to rain and auction is cancelled….tornado watch…rain drowns the “bring it” girl.

Victor didn’t even get to bid.

Ricky and Bubba drive two hours to a different auction. Bubba still fills 2/3s of my tv screen.

**
Lesa’s big unit ($1475) has a jewelry box with crap jewelry.  Big find (always is one) is a….wine cabinet with green glasses her partner thinks is dollar store stuff. Later the expert says it’s Uranium glass from the 1920s and worth maybe $100 total. THEN, a set of four …expert says $200.

Moe…worthless TV set (we get them all the time)…so far sees $500 worth of crap. But then he offers Lesa $500 for her wine cabinet.  She takes it.  He thinks he can get a grand for it. Expert later says….teak, circular wine bar worth $3400. Give me a friggin’ break, but does he buy it from Moe…no.

The big boys….find…a leather couch with no cushions (sound familiar ?).  Table…Bubba says it’s Mayan. Yeah, right. The table expert says….grinding mill base…in northwest India (far from the Mayans !). Expert says…50 years old and worth….$350. After gas money…they broke even.

Two more episodes next Tuesday, March 13, 2012.

The best joke in both episodes is when Lesa asks Jerry if he knows about antiques and he says he knows her....too funny. Did you see the look on Lesa's face when Moe showed her what the teak wine storage was worth. All I can say is, a fool and their money will soon part. Money can fix ugly but it can't fix stupid. It's too bad Moe didn't see the vintage advertising piece before she had it appraised.

So, I had to drive out to Lampassas, TX yesterday because my wife found a puppy she wanted to adopt from the local animal shelter. I was going to go by Ricky Smiths' Lampassas Warehouse to get some photos for you guys but apparently they are only open a few days per month.

The funny part about the 6 hour ride is they made it look like they brought their trailer along with them.

Tuesday, March 13, 2012....

Two new episodes tonight and I'm not going to review them...or at least that's the plan.

Now if one of the Texicans comes up with another "lookee here what I done found !" I won't be able to resist.

Well, the $50K in diamonds was something else. He did say something to the effect that
in doing this biz for 28 years he had never seen anything like that. Maybe if I do it for another 20 years I'll make
a big score like that too. Somehow I think the storage industry hasn't really been in full force that long, but maybe he meant buying and selling in general.

Meanwhile, let the newbies swarm at such offerings.

$50K in diamonds!! Good luck selling it for that....I would take $10k then book a weeks vacation - I ain't greedy!  ;)

I am not sure how long the storage auction thing has been active. We bought our first one in 1998 for $30 before that we would hit a weekly general merchandise auction at the local livestock auction (Jones's) and re-sell at the swap or through ads in the newspaper.

Good luck to ya and I hope the next one you buy will have a whole box full of sparkly things!

Funny how after 28 years luck didn't strike until AFTER he started doing a TV show about storage auctions!  ::)

Yep, certainly possible, but the odds are against it being anything other than a ploy by the producers.

I watched both the new episodes and the blatant "imitation" of the original series still gets me. The characters, the catch phrases, etc. While "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" may be true, this show does such a poor job it's pitiful.  Somehow I can stand the characters on the original show, but these clowns just grate.

I watched the first one and a half episodes of the Texas show and I had to turn it off....the characters were pitiful!

The original Wars show I do like - I have been to quite a few auctions held by Dan and Laura's company and I have always liked them....they are good people, fair and always held a very well run auction and I am glad they are doing well. However, Barry is by far my favorite.

First half hour...a $1900 paintball gun ?

*****

2nd half hour...Leesa's husband tells her to take her JFK Wanted for Treason poster to Dallas to the Texas Book "Suppository" museum to see if it's real.  ;D

An appraiser told her it seemed real and he heard of an auction where one of 5,000 went for $1,200. Theres one on eBay (maybe not an original) right now for less than $10.  ;)

Last night shows you how fake the shows are.  I think it was the pipe-tomahawk that was a commercial mass produced item - retial $150.  So they say he made $150 + the $40 he made from the newbie selling the locker he paid $30 for.

Then the unit with the washer, dryer, few other items that Rob paid $225 for they claim a $200 loss.  Made $25 for the old medal.  I was like if the washer/dryer worked could get 150 - 200 for the set since was an older model it looked like.  The medal I would try for the $25 just due to age but don't count on a quick sale.

Now I remember why I wasn't watching the show.

Frankly I'm a bit bewildered over how much people here are trashing SWT. I too find many things wrong with the show and the characters on it, but I look at it as entertainment and drama, not reference material. Many things are ridiculous, like $25 hose hangers and $50K diamond rings, but that's the stuff that makes me laugh and yell out, "yeah right!" I find no shortage of either entertainment or drama on this show.

I just wanted to point out something I had missed until my wife pointed it out.

Moe is not in the credit sequence and has been replaced by Roy Williams. If it is a permanent change, that is one step towards a better program.

Moe came on the show at the end of the summer last year. unlike what you seen on tv.  Roy Williams was on the s how way back at the start of filming. so moe is not going to be replaced. this i know for sure. i was not told is was there. when you don't see moe he was not part of the cast yet. they show the auction out of order from when they film. but i would like to see moe gone as well.

Sorry for slow response - I don't have tv at the house and just saw the paintball show. The $1,900 would be full retail on the paintball gear - but it is legit. If it was new with no modifications - I could sell it for $1,400 in a day.

I LOVED seeing Vic - the motorcycle guru - bid like a RETARD and lose all that $ on the scooter.

Sorry should have been more clear - I have nice televisions but don't pay for cable/satellite. We use netflix and bluerays. So the only time I get to watch is when I travel for work or they come out on Netflix.

If you ever want to see the difference a 'reality' show makes check it out on Netflix. The difference in the cars is obvious... Ford sponsors in some form the original SW show.

A 6' chain saw? Yep, I'd bet people are beating down the door to get at that one so they can put it in their toolbox!  ::) ::) ::)

Chainsaw staged IMO.

Still, $5 for that locker is a great deal! Not sure i would like trying to liquidate all that paint however.

Think they were all opened...sell cheap at flea or off to hazardous waste facility.

Victor seemed to get get lucky to find someone for the video games... Good profit as well.

I think a REAL buyer would have given him a few hundred for all the machines.

The tea set was cool. I about fell off my chair when I herd how much it was worth!

As an oldtimer I'm pretty sure you MEANT "what they said it was worth".

Sorry, but the cynic in me has a hard time buying the items themselves being in the lockers in the first place, and the suggested retail prices are out of this world.

The one thing I can attest to being 100% factual and accurate in the Texas shows, is how SWEATY everyone gets while working their lockers.

It gets rather nasty down here!!
