Title: Storage Wars...Winter, 2012 Adventures !
Post by: MovieMan on January 03, 2012, 09:33:14 PM
Storage Wars (THE ORIGINAL !)  Tuesday, Jan 3, 2012

Santa Ana, California….

Brandi goes on her own…the vultures are circling.

**

Big D gets one for $3,500 plus. Details later.

Meanwhile Jarrod is knocking down a wall in their store for expansion to the empty store next door.

**

Hester bids against Darrel and big D bids him up and “dumps” it on him.

**

Next one has a SAFE ! (OMG)…..

Bidding is fast and furious among the 4….who gets it?  Brandi…otherwise her beau would kill her !

**
Reveals:

Hester looks at his …. Whoa (he says)….Pachinko machines…and he counts everything up and of course they’re all PRIMO ! Admits he may not break even.

Darrel looks at his $3K plus lkr….scooters, wrought iron patio set, Makita rotary hammer, grinder, tool box (with $250 in tools inside..Harbor Freight ?).  Lawn mower, Coca-Cola (probably worth at least $10K…or for you and me maybe $100 if we’re lucky). Commerical break and when we come back ?   …. Commercial upholstery sewing machine…(I sold one for about $350 once..he thinks $1500).

Darrel’s Coke stuff…valued at …. Incredible prices per bottle.

Brandi’s: Safe contains:  NADA ! (and they destroyed the safe)…lkr cost $2600 and valued at ??? (undetermined, but maybe not break even…maybe a loss.)

On to show #2 for tonight.

2nd episode...Jan 3, 2012.

Boxes in Hollywood….probably rare movie memorabilia…and I’m not there.
Some kid outbids Barry for a minute. Kid still in at $1800…Barry get it for $2K.

**
More boxes in second “vault” type container. Full of books.
Dave likes it. Dave gets it…$900. “gold or mold”

**
Barry goes back to his $2k….Starts throwing stuff out as he always done. Bowl of hair.
Whoa (and a commercial, and…) old top hat for appraisal.

**
Darrel likes it (last lkr of day)..Jarrod doesn’t like it but bids anyway “A buck maybe … but no dough”. Jarrod gets it…Brandi throws something at him.

**
Dave’s book lkr…$200 value in first 3 boxes ! Total value? … $9,000 he says in what he walks by with half the unit left…now it’s up to $15K. I thought this guy was smart.

**
Jarrod’s lkr….broken tools, whoa (the key word meaning some real treasure is coming after the commercial)…1915 license plates (thank you producers). Rest is dump run..thanks for the realism.

**
Barry's old beaver hat 1878...value...$450 (from a $2000 dollar lkr).

**
License plates...worth ... $275..out of a $1250 lkr. Call it a loss and move on.

SHIPPING WARS next week is looking better all the time.

First show tonight, when Jarrod is jumping up and down on the wall he makes a comment...."oh man, I have a drug test this week".  Wonder what that's all about?   LOL!

I caught that, too. I didn't realize drywall dust showed up on a pee-test.  ;)

I'm more interested in the moving show then anything.  Watched a little pawn stars last night.  Mostly flipped between weather channel and dumbies on wheels.

Anyways - the coke stuff I would of loved to have.  The prices seemed high on the show for the bottle but the crates were accurate for my area.  Of course we are in GA and thus have many coke collectors.  Prices for coke items like everything else are down.  5 - 10 years ago the prices they were quoting for the bottles I could see.

Saw 4 of those sewing machines in a locker back in Nov.  Locker went for like $1100.  Guess they were watching storage wars to get their values.

Me too. Guess we can add the new show to the bank of Picker sisters, and the hog show A&E company made. I give the new show 4 weeks.

I'll have to remember that it is on and watch it.  Don't watch much TV as I'm always on the computer.  But with a new TV and Blu-Ray in bedroom now I have a place to watch.  Now just have to make a note.

The "barracuda" is back....

Barry rides in on a scooter and sets up free donuts for the crowd....

No Brandi and Jarrod.

****
First lkr...lot of stuff...quality ? Maybe not.
Dave bids Darrell up...Darrell gets it for $1.9K.

****
Nabila.....gets the next one for $500 after Dave bid her up a couple of times.

****
A 5x 10 with hardly anything in it. Barry gets it for $2.50....if all goes as usual it will have a $250 item in a drawer.

****
Darrel's $1950 lkr has....collectibles, lawn mower...some special bear...worth $1500. That's a lot of beanie babies.
Estimate for value....$3800.

Barry's cheapie...drawer contains...glass containers for catching flies....valued...$1,550 to $2,000. Hell I was only off on my value guess by a factor of 10...I guessed $250 before I knew what was in the drawer.

Nibala....scores an estimated value of $???....with currency and coins all in plastic !  All money worth...about $1900 and she made about $1,200 profit.

Is there a re-run of shipping wars on anywhere?  I enjoyed that more this evening !

Darrel's bear...worth $800.

Now I know why the price/bidding on units keeps going up and up in my area. People actually beleive they can drop $500 - $1500 on ANY unit and they are going to DOUBLE their money!

I was surprised that barry's unit went for 2.50   I thought there was some good looking shelving in there that would have drove the price higher.
Title: Re: Storage Wars...Winter, 2012 Adventures !
Post by: craiglstauction on January 11, 2012, 04:17:45 PM
On Berry's unit I would of gone $5 just for the shelf.  Could of used it in my shed.

Does anyone remember where Nabila went to get the coins appraised.  I just about fell of the couch when the guy was saying the silver dollars are worth $30 (spot price).  For once instead of over inflating the price that guy was doing a serious undervalue.  Looked like they were slabbed coins from PCGS but need to re-watch the show and look closer.  Was glad she got some counterfits in there also.

The second show really made me go "Are you smoking crack".  Hester wins a unit and starts to sort it.  He has 4 barstool chairs and goes that's another $1000.  I was like - excuse me????  Did I just hear that correct.

I'm with you MovieMan - I found the shipping wars to be more entertaining.  Thought it was interesting in that one you bid "down" to win the job.  Was cool watching them try to move some of that stuff.  Should be interesting.

Actually most silver dollars made after 1880 are only worth there weight in silver regardless of condition. They where mass produced in quanties way over what was needed due a law requiring so many to be made each year. Many of them actually sat in federal vaults until the 60's when the mint released them, most of them in perfect condition.

There is of course exceptions, like rare dates and anything minted in Carson city (CC mint mark)

But in general, they are only only worth their weight in silver.

I need to re-watch that episode if can find it online.  However, I think those were Morgans in PCGS slabs and at MS-62 or better condition.  If the slabs were not fake, then those coins no matter the date are worth more then spot value.  Not counting the variaties, error, or key dates.

Just listening to the dealer spot prices it what caught my attention some.  I've been in a few shops where the dealer is lowballing a client really bad.  One store I got kicked out of as I overheard the guy really offering some rock bottom prices to a lady that had her dead husbands collection.  I mean maybe a few cents over face value quotes.  I told the lady this guy was screwing her over and told her where to get a reasonable quote.  Guy told me to get out which I did.  Lady walked out a few mins later.  That place closed 3 months later.

Tonight, Tuesday, Jan 17, 2012 there are two new episodes and the plan tonight is to just watch them
and not summarize or review them unless something just jumps out as being noteworthy !

Now to watch.  ;D

Nabila needs a lesson (after 20 years) in what an old flinklock stock would look like. I could tell it was an imitation afrom 10 feet away on my tv screen, and apparently the words "Hollywood, CA" on the metal work didn't mean anything to here either...what a ninny !

Barry strikes it rich with old art work. You go Barry !

Where the heck is Jarrod?

Good question ! Maybe episode 2 will provide the answer. New store addition might be the answer too !

Right on both counts...they are in the 2nd half hour and Brandi mentions time off after grand opening.
Wish I could call locker buys that accurately.

****
Crew has grown to 5 with Nabila in the mix...tonight's secret words..."bid them up!". Only Jarrod and Barry
didn't engage in that...the rest were vicious.

Barry says: "I've seen better wares beneath the freeway."  Next week the promo shows him taking a sledge hammer to a 2 foot square safe. Good luck Barry!

***
Darrel..if you're reading this (HA!) I got one of those same blow guns in a locker. Think I sold mine for $15 at the flea...I could tell it was a tourist item.

Mehhhh, still can say NIB, just so long as the box wasn't where the money was. Styrofoam helps his cause in reselling it. Now if he was selling on eBay, that's another story.

Yep, pretty funny stuff. Actually, that would be a problem for you and I (torn box) but it really doesn't mean anything to him. He's in it for the fun at his age. Jarrod and wife are trying to make a living; Darrell's been doing it for years but probably still needs to make money at it; Dave ?  Wonder how his auction house is doing?  I like Barry and Jarrod/Brandi the best.

I fully agree, but my wife and I always talk about how he just trashes the stuff in his units. The sewing machine box, followed by his comment, was just a priceless example.

Well I watched the first show but not the second.  Just couldn't stomach it anymore.  Watched it with wife and I was like, "See that trashed unit she paid too high for - now watch her find that 1 item".  Out comes the pistol.  It wouldn't of surprised me if it had been real and worth 25k.

Berry's locker I liked other then the matress.  All those boxes to dig in.  Would of meant a good 2 - 3 days worth of searching with the kids.

Just curious. Do you "screen" the boxes before the kids dig in? Just to make sure there isn't any porn/toys/drug stuff?

Seems like it could lead to some good-ol' awkwardness.

Ya matches I pretty much do.  My daughter is also 13, built like a 17 yr old.  So we have already had the talk a few times.  Still try and watch out for everything.  I worry more about needles and things like that then the porn or toys.  Not sure why.

So I just watched the first SW ever(never have before oddly enough), and damn you can tell everyone is getting payed.

Last year Hester had 2 old beater type cube trucks, now has a whole damn fleet of trucks and trailers.  Jarrod goes from a chrysler 300 to a lifted tricked out truck and Darrell goes from a 99 ram to a 2010 lifted truck also tricked out and a Vette. Damn!  Are people sure on the amounts these guys get paid per episode? It's gotta be well over someone's original estimate of 11k an episode.

I'm sure with the popularity of the show they may be getting paid more.  Also, it wouldn't surprise me if they are going "celebrity" or "publicity" gigs on the side.  Then add in the ton of foot traffic that they are now getting at the store(s) which may of increased sales, even with increased prices.

It's like Covington just outside of Atlanta years ago.  They use to film "In the Heat of the Night" tv show in that small town.  Local guy sold all sorts of souvineer stuff from his store on main street.  You could watch them film, etc.  The show brought in many people to the area that normally wouldn't of gone.  Thus, more money, more buisness, etc.  Now it's all part of Atlanta for the most part.  Some of that is urban sprawl I suspect, and other part just growth from the show/interest.

I bet they dont even work in there stores hardley ever! They probably hire workers and just check on the store here and there. From a tv show to selling stuff in our store would be a downer.

Maybe, but that is what all small retailers strive for. At one of my jobs, I ran a small store with about 4 others and the owner put in about 10-15 hours per week.

And, no, he didn't have a reality show.   ;)

Tuesday, Jan 24, 2012....

Dave finds about 6 pieces of rocks/minerals and says they're worth $700 to $800.

I sell those exact items; the amethyst piece would go for $20 at the most.
The lamp (shines through the rock)....$25 at the most.
Other pieces maybe $10 each (total of $40).....grand total $85...that's 1/10 of his estimate.

Barry opens his safe and finds......Nada ! (typical...90% of them are empty).

Barry has some wine tool he thinks will pay off...I bet it will...this is REALITY TV. Corker "worth" $700 or so.

Only in Santa Cruz, CA would Darrell find three surf boards ! The three of them worth:  $650.

****

A 2nd half hour coming up.

2nd half hour on the 24th of Jan, 2012.

How about this: It's about 380 miles from LA to SF, CA. That's a lot of gas!
They were in Santa Cruz and then in SF...would guess there was a night between the two auctions...motel bills.

MAYBE....If Darrell can truly sell $17K out of his $2K+ lkr...that's good money...now all he has to do is haul it back (a 10 x 30) to San Diego !

Jarrod and B like their tool box...wish he had mentioned the name of the wrench he had in his hand.

Jarrod and B get spy stuff in a locker...oh yeah...that happens AT LEAST once a year in my area.

Jarrod and B got a huge amount of new furn in the box...he rented 2 trucks to take it back the appx 400 miles to their store....trucks, drivers, gas...all adds up...thank goodness for TV celebrity.

Still a good thing they're being paid per episode and apparently a good sum ($10K by most estimates). Talent pays!

Promo for SW Texas...2ND SEASON...starts in March; yeehaw...can hardly wait.

Lol - Dave just kills me.  Was watching the show with my wife.  When that locker opened I was like, hmm 200 - 400 locker depending on crowd in my area.  CA price - 1k.  Before they even started to dig I said - watch him say he'll double / triple his money.  Starts to dig and tosses a bag full of cloths out - $30.  I'm trying very hard not to scream at the tv saying WTF are you talking about.  Not even looked in the bag to see if it's stained, rags, etc. and it's $30.

Heck at Dave's prices I have $360 just sitting under my sort table I've yet to cash in.  Those rocks/minerals I could prob sell for $200 or so in my area.  They are not common here like they are out west.  Only thing we get is the small polished stones from the mountains / tourist areas.

Jarrod and B's tool locker - $400 - $800 here.  That was a nice locker IMO, but not worth 4k.  I think all the tools were craftsman also.  If were snap-on would be worth more.  The cart they had in the unit is the same type that I pulled out of a unit last month.

All that new furniture in Darrell's and Jarrod / Bs unit would sell for about 1/2 retail here.  Still would of been good money.  Just would of been slow to sell.  You would have lots of money tied up in inventory.

As for the SW:Texas promo - saw the ring being appraised for $30k.  I'm just sitting there going oh sure.  They put a $30k ring in a storage locker instead of a saftey deposit box which cost the same as a small unit.

Really wondering how bad Feb is going to be when people get tax money back.

Funny how a 30k(supposed) ring is going to show up around tax season, but it's probably just a a coincidence.

The waiting is over !

New episode Sunday, March 4th.

Just as I was thinking with no new episodes and most people have blown their tax money prices may start to drop.  Maybe it will be a good thing if I can't hit the auctions up due to this new boss.

I'll have to try and remember to watch it this Sunday.  Think I caught all of them from last season.  Got to the point I couldn't really stand to watch them except when kids wanted me to watch it with them.  If I could get $30 per black trash bag w/o looking even in it I could go on vacation this summer.

Just as I was thinking with no new episodes and most people have blown their tax money prices may start to drop.  Maybe it will be a good thing if I can't hit the auctions up due to this new boss.

I will be watching the amazing race then catch a rerun or two later. 3rd season its the same old stuff ! The novelty has worn off. They find cloths, tools, cars and house old items. They sell and do it all over again. Guess I could try and watch the show in mute that cuts out all the drama which is what 90% of what the show has become.
