Auction Scene #12....December, 2013

Upon FM's request.....

Here it is, though for the most part the discussion on the whole forum for the last month or so has been SLIM except for news from Texas and North Carolina, with the occasional sprinkle from the northwest.

Have at it auction buyers ! 

I havent bought a locker since November, though that $25 dollar Craft/magazine locker has turned out pretty good. The material/yawn etc has moved pretty nicely, far beyond what I thought it would. Went to an auction yesterday, 6 rooms, 10 or so people. Most of the rooms were pretty crappy (contents) so I just did not buy. Really hoping to get another locker before Santa gets here.

I haven't bought since October, been pretty slow around here since then, plus I fractured my elbow, so that hasn't helped. Have 1 coming up on the 20th. 5 days before Christmas, here's hoping everyone is broke and I can score some good units for cheap.

I haven't bought one in a month. But that one I was able to flip just about every item worth keeping in about a week. The only place I've bought lockers recently is through storagebattles. There haven't been many auctions around recently. None in 2 weeks. Maybe I need to expand my radius!

Bought my last locker August 27, 2013 and that was at a piece by piece auction where I bought several items from the locker one at a time and then decided to go for the rest of the locker based on what I had bought and the fact we could walk in and look at the entire locker (without touching anything).

Other than that, I have been going to auctions (in a very reduced radius) but haven't bought one since then. Picking on the other hand remains quite good.

Going to auctions this week (Dec 11, 12, 13) more for the socializing than anything else, but if a super locker pops up I'll be ready.

Well, there's always news from France (if that's where it's coming from...and I doubt it).

Meanwhile, I went to 2 of 3 auctions on Dec 11, 2013....only one locker worth mentioning. It was a 5 x 10 with a mattress on the left faced by a LARGE flatscreen...maybe a 6'. Started out decent enough and went to $300 range where it slowed down to two buyers. Happy to say an auction friend of two years (who isn't a hog) got it for $325 while the blowhard who was competing bowed out.  TV probably works as there were three boxes of DVDs showing and this indicated to me the former owner was a TV fan who probably just fell on hard times.

I went to zero of 3 possible auctions on Dec 12, 2013. Just busy doing things that made money rather than using up time on the usual garbage lots we mostly see in my area.

Three possible auctions today very close to home so might hit a couple of them.

I bought a locker yesterday, off SB. 10x20. Tons of books, back issues of National Geographic, woodworking tools, antique tools, hardware like Baldwin Locksets, deadbolts, interior door sets. All Baldwin.. A couple of dressers, can't tell the age from where they sit now. A vintage folding bike made in Italy and a Hammond organ. Paid $200.

Bid on a unit today on SB. Mostly clothes and shoes. I had looked up two pairs of the shoes that I could see the brand on and they were designer and very expensive. Unit went for $280.00. Little bit to high for me. Nothing else in the near future. Maybe the new year will be better?

I actually bought a couple of lockers last Saturday.  Had a good sized crowd, but nobody was bidding on much.  Guess it was too cold and they didn't want to have to come back and load out. 

Paid $150 for the pair.  One had a weird mix of stuff, but a lot of tools and some nice military clothes.  Paid $50 for that one and should clear at least $300. 

Second one had a washer/dryer, small upright freezer, bed, particle board bookshelf, futon (that was NASTY!), two dressers that were both missing a drawer, two more dressers, box of kids books, kids toys, two strollers, microwave cart, three old tv sets and a bunch of kids clothes, and a bunch of World of Warcraft and Dungeons and Dragons books and little cast pewter pieces. 

Went through the clothes and kept some of the name brand stuff and the rest went to Goodwill along with the tv sets.  Sold the bed and the book shelf for $60 bucks already, gave away the futon for free and busted up one of the dressers.  I'll make some money on it, but seems like a lot of work for the profit.

As a side note, picking is still WAY better.  Bought a set of 8 dining chairs on Sunday for $20........sold them yesterday for $250.   

Have an auction tomorrow with 15-20 units, hoping there are a couple of gems in there. Will update after the auction this weekend

That's why nobody was bidding...they didn't want to work that hard or make a trip to the dump!

Nine units today. 17 bidders. Prices were not bad. I scored a 5 X 5 for $250. These people used every square inch of this one. Everything is very dirty but scored 5 dressers in various sizes, a really great hutch and a nice dinning table. Lots and lots and lots of toys which I don't sell. Will be blowing them out to someone else to get rid of or I guess I could spend a day at the swap meet. I foresee a profit of 5 to 7 hundred after a day of cleaning everything up. Not bad for my first unit in 3 months.

My auction on the 20th was kind of a bust, not any great units, and the one I got for $125, I'll make a couple hundred on, so not too bad, but not great either.
