Title: Stupid people piss me off
Post by: terrorbow on September 02, 2011, 04:40:58 PM
Just got back from an auctipn today. 4units up for bid 3 10/20 1 5/10. Lots of stupid ass newbs. They kept talking about storage bors and such. This auction was run by blair auctions. First unit didnt have much in it just a shelf full of electronics like a stereo system an old range few boxs/totes and some other misc items. Went for over 500 I think it was. Second was no better some clear totes with christmas items misc furniture the cheapo kind tv old and some baby items went for over 400. My favorite was the 5/10. This was full of furniture maybe 100 dollars worth on craigslist is that. Couple boxs. The best thing which im guessing everyone was bidding on was a 9mm clip full of rounds. This lkr went for 675 or 625. Now comes the last lkr and this is how dumb the auctioneer was he started the bidding at 700 for a lkr that had some misc clothes on the wall a broke tool box with a small tool box on top a glider rocker a tote full of misc tools and a broke and nasty lokin range. Started that high for the tool boxs. The unit went for 425. I didnt bid on anything and neither did the vets I was talking to. There was no way any of these newbs made back there money. I told some of the vets that these people in a month will no longer be around if the keep being this dumb. Needless to say it was a waste of my time and gas. Sorry no pics I left my camera and my locks in my truck. Should have pics of the two auctions im going to tomorrow.

Blair Auction used to be one of my favorite auctioneers to follow on auction days. They were the first to run it as kind of a circuit all on the same day in my area. The auctioneer they used to have in Chicago was a cool guy too.

He wound up leaving the company and starting his own auction company, also took most of their clients as well. He's the guy who is now updating the auction route on twitter which I think is a cool idea.

The problem with blair is they have too big a following and do a good job of making their auctions known to people so auctions tend to have big crowds.

Yeah I hate those days when people are bidding like idiots. I saw a guy pay over a grand for a unit with 4 mattresses and nothing else at a blair auction. One I recently attended a guy paid $1400 for a unit that had a painters tarp strung across the frnot you coudlnt see a single thing in the unit. I'm all for taking chances and riskvsreward but thats just dumb in my opinion.

$250 per mattresses, mmmmmm. And damn that was one expensive tarp. Hope there was a wow factor behind it, lol.

A grand for 4 old matresses that you have to take to the dump.  Hmm, think I'd of given that guy the "Storage Auction Dumb Axx Award" for that.

Other then my very first auction which was on a saturday around here things have been pretty level.  Highest units have been at $550 for full family type units w/ lots of furniture and such.

I'll add that to my sarcastic terms.  I'll try to pull it out at the next auction.  Pretty funny

Where was that one at, wasn't it Flint or Sagnasty area?  Remember man that it was the friday before a long weekend and people took the day off and figured it was time to press their luck.  As the people at PS auctions have said, they hate Blairs auctions and call him and his company a Donkey.  Can't blame them after last week seeing a unit go for prices I thought only Storage wars would bring in.  I guess if your Blair though, you have to strike while the Iron is hot and maximize your profits.

Then again Blair is actually competent at getting auctions done in a timely manner compared to the auctioneer for PS.  The auctioneer around here for PS takes 5+ hours to do 5 locations with minimal crowds.

Grrr. stupid people.

Here is an example today at garage sale. I have a Precious moments doll, retail value of about $60. Resell Value I would place it as $15 according to condition. I had it in ym yard sale today for $1. Which is a big ass dixcount in my opinion. A lady came by and asked how much, I told her a dollar, she held onto it and 30 seconds later asked how much for it, 50 cents? And again I told her no, one dollar, she hissed and huffed under her breath, but still bought it.

This is the kind of crap I deal with all the time doing yard sales in this neighborhood. Cheap skates. :\

Come on JrossJr, handle your customers! LOL! Next time when someone asks 50 cents, say "let me see that again?" "Oh, I'm sorry, that one is 5 dollars." Guarantee she won't pull that crap again.

Well today I wad the stupid person but at least I can make my money back. But the other auction is a different story. Will get to that in a bit. First my unit. It was a hoarders unit but I figured I would take a chance as an old lady owned it. Figured there would be something of value which I got partially right. I got run up to 90 on my own stupidity. But after going through it I figure I can make my money back with all the smalls plus the new floor sweeper in box and chrisrmas trees new still in boxs along with bunch of smalls still new in box. Might make a small profit I hope.
Heres how dumb new people are in my area. A 5/10 only a push mower a power washer, wagon, some ceramic tall flower planters and a charcoal grill small one highest bid was 300. I bid 70 on a sealed bid then asked the lady highest bid then I left. Maybe a total of 150 dollars in there the other unit high bid was 4k. It was a double unit with tuns and tuns of tools rebuilt chevy engine with all the goodies quad motor cycle engine hoist and stand nice furniture tins and tuns of electronics and boxs. With everything I saw there was easily 8-10k worth of items. Engine alone was over 1500.

lol, I usually do that, but this time my main goal was to get rid of all my inventory. However I dont usually mark it up that much, I usually end up marking up double of what they tried to drop me on. For instance, this was one dallar, she wanted it for 50 cents, so I would of usually say ok, now its $2.00

Low price items like that I usually price double what I want to get for it, because there's always some cheap ass genius who wants to haggle from $1.00 to fifty cents.  (Why do they usually just pay the price on the larger items, but ***** over the little stuff?) Anyway, that way I get what I want out of it, even if they do dicker, and I usually make more than I wanted.
They think they got one over on me, when I got what I wanted anyway at the worst.

Did a yard sale today.  Was selling any clothing for .25 just to get rid of it without throwing it away.  Young lady comes up with her mom look at several things.  She grabs up a pair of jeans and said "I'll give you .50 for these".   ::)Yeah I took it.

Well hell, I was even throwing free stuff out there for people. They just cant walk over and get the free stuff though. I had it set up where if they bought $5 worth of merchandise they can dig out one thing out of the free boxes, sometimes I even let them have more free if I got off to them :)

I'd go as high as $500 on that unit then stop. That kind of mystery ain't worth $1400.

Well so far on my hoarders unit ive found bout 6 or 7 avon items still in box that I might be able to sell to an avon vendor at the flea market for cheap an oil painting in good condition. Have to get that apraised or find out about it. Tuns and tuns of .25, .50. & 1.00 items for a garage sale. 11.90 in dimes. So after all my costs I think I might either break even or lose money.

Out of curiousity how the hell do you get rid of christmas items? I got so many now im about to start throwing them out.

If the Xmas items are of good quality, the best time to sell them is mid october to mid january

So latest update on my hoarders unit. Turns out this unit has tuns and tuns of potential. I found an antique wooden doll from the 30's or 40's in pretty good shape. Best thing so far is a sleep apnea machine brand new in box still has invoice. Unit costed 655. Plus still has all the plastic wraping. Im going to a place that sells medical equipment and rent stuff out tomorrow and see if I can sell them that. Also getting the doll appraised and if I can find someone about the painting I will for that also.

Thanks bigbizz for the tip on contacts. When selling my toolbox I talked to the,guy and he does sales all the time well he will sell my things for 10% commission which will help me out so I can sell the furniture and such. Also he knows someone who will buy my wine glasses for more then I think there worth. So thank yuns for the tips.

I'll be interested to hear about your experience at the med place. Remember, they buy things wholesale in some degree of bulk so they can SELL that unit at 655, so think about what you might expect from them IF they consider buying it.

You wouldn't be able to sell it on eBay as they would kick it off in nothing flat. They have people selling them there who are licensed to do so.

Just a tip on CPAP machines terror.  For the most part, like reselling many medical devices, usually half of actual price is what low unit hours/new units will sell for on a great day.  This is because for I'd imagine 70 to 80 percent of the Sleep Apnea sufferers out there get machines through insurance.  I sold my unit(low unit hours) for $125.  If someone offers you $250 I'd run with it.  It's just like I said before med appliances are a tricky business.

I personally would be happy with 100 for the unit. But also the place im going to mostly rents out the equipment. But I did only spend 90 on the unit so I be happy just to break even right now. But will keep yall posted on these items. Have an auction in the morning as they said it was today so there a few of us there but being a small town i'll be the odd one out.

Update on my hoarders unit from a while back. I just sold the cpap machine for 200. Remember I paid 90 for the unit and have now made over 300. I say thats not to bad for a trash unit lol.

Title: Re: Stupid people piss me off

Well im not worried if it was half of retail or not. All I care is that its gone and I got some more jingle in my pocket. Plus I can honestly say now I have gotten between 2-6 times my money back on all my units so far and still have a tun to sell. Even more after we get done cleaning out the forclosure today.

every time I see the title of this post, I chuckle and think "If stupid people piss you off, then man are you in the wrong business."  :)
At every auction, I feel as though I am surrounded by some of the stupidest, shadiest, scum of my area. This does not include the hard working, honest, good people trying to make a living... but I think you all know the types I am talking about.

I've actually thought about doing that either on ebay (when it was legal) or at flea markets. I plan on, of course, going through the boxes and categorizing them so the person knows what they're getting. I don't think an 80 year old lady would do much with a box of surfer memorabilia. LOL!

What is the significance of "star" notes? How rare is a 1955 double die cast?
