Teed off!!

Yesterday, I drove over an hour to a town called Keene, Tx for 15 unit storage auction.  

I have never been to an auction that has more than 6 lockers up for bidding.  

Got there and parked besides a lady, my truck started sinking in a sinkhole because of all the rain that we got.  

 


same time, Im trying to get this truck out of it, sank even further down.  someone tried to come to my rescue, and still wouldnt budge.  

Im here freaking out on how the hell im gonna get this dang thing out.  Called a tow and went ahead to the first 2 lockers.  


This is the part that teed me off.  Most storage auctions i went to, started with a low number then worked its way up.  

not this one.  they just wanted their money back (defaulted loan)  first locker was a tiny locker, wanted started the bidding at $205 for a really scummy trashy locker.  WTF!!

2nd locker was even worse, wanted 285.    

he wouldnt go down so he marked it down as no bids and keeping it for next auction (to reel a sucker in somehere and some times)

pissed me off and everyone else.  everyone walked away and couldnt believe the prices.   That storage manager needs to get off from watching too much storage wars hoping the storage business will cash in.  

 

tow driver shows and i got my truck out of the sink hole,  broke my valance off but it was easily put back on later the day.  


to show up at that silly stupid place, costs me 85.00..     60 for tow and 25 for parts to put the valance back on.  


I m this close to calling the storage place and demand my money back.  

but im the one that drove over the sink hole.  


lesson learned and yesterday I was teed off...    


but did i go back to the auctioning?  Hell no with those prices hes starting out with.  Just left

At least nobody bid on it. Now the company isn't any in any better position than when they started!!

I have seen a storage unit with a minimum starting bid of $3000.00. Minimum starting bid units are just part of the experience.

Yea it was a 10 x 30 almost full. From the door you could see a Honda Valkyrie motorcycle, a riding lawnmower, a Donkey Kong arcade game, and other furniture and boxes stack out.

Ouch Todd you must still be pissed off.  Was a little hard to read your post.  As for the units - ya they are dreaming.  Must be a mom and pop type of place?  Any corporate facilaties just want the units cleaned out and gone.  It cost them to run the legal ad.  If they are full they are missing out on rent revenue, etc.

As for Cobia - I can understand a min bid now that you said all of that.  If it was just the "default fee" they would still be dreaming.

Hope your luck changes Todd.  I know the frustration as my truck was in the shop in Nov & Dec.  Then missed a flea market day due to oil pressure light (was the sensor thank god, so easy fix).  Movieman has some van issues right now.  So your not alone.

Well I hope they are not setting there starting bid by whats in the unit but more for what is owed for it.

In theory this should work(min. Bids), but you have to be very visible to do that.  I do hope when I hear about min bids that they can't sell. Lack of sale = lack of rent = hopefully pissed off owners

The storage facility doesn't benefit from selling the unit for more than what is owed, at least not in Texas.  If a tenant owes $500 and the unit sells for $1000 then the facility must "hold" the remainding $500 for the tenant for 1 yr, at least in TX they do.  If the unit sells for less then the facility can send the balance to a collection agency.  It doesn't do any good to NOT auction a unit because you have to start the whole process over with advertising in paper and sending certified letters and waiting the 45 days or so. The facility I managed I wanted the contents gone so I can have that space to rent it out and make especially if it was a size I was out of of low on units.
