Auction Hunters Season 3

Auction Hunters Season 3
« on: August 16, 2011, 05:13:21 PM »
I'm more then a month and half late but found out there will be a season 3.  Is suppose to also have a "LIVE" episode.  Now that one will be interesting if it really is live and not edited like normal.  I thought interest in these shows was going down.

Interesting.  Where did you hear this?  I can't imagine how they would do a live show. ???

Is on spiketv.com website.  Was looking to see what the schedule was and saw a blurp about it.  Press release was from June 20.

Well, if they do a live show then the general public will see how they have to overpay just to get a unit. It would probably take most of the hour to sort through the unit and I bet ya they don't make an ten thousand dollar profit on that one. As a matter of fact, I bet ya you will see the Auction Hunters losing money for the first time!

Ya - I read that in the news blurp and was like "Oh I have to see that".  However, I give it 50/50 odds that they loose money.  I suspect they will do this live show at a undiscolsed location that they have seeded one locker with good to great finds.  They will find some rare slabbed coins that sale for a few grand, or some other small treasure.

Exactly. They may do a live show but that doesn't keep them from staging the locker!

I just don't understand how they can do a live show in a similar format in an hour time slot. Are they going to have an appraiser on stand by at the auction? Are they going to have people helping them sort through the locker? The only way they can guarantee themselves a locker is to overpay.

Auction hunters is so damn fake, who really cares anyway. At least nobody made any money on last nights episode of Storage Wars, I'll give them props for that. I think the (reality) of the storage auction reality shows is finally catching up with the cast members.

I knew it was fake the first time I saw the show.  Even before I started to do a little digging.  I watch it for two things.  First just for the little entertainment it has...mostly to see what they come up with.  Second I use it for some education / practice.  I try to come up with "my estimate" on what would bid before they start talking.  Also, see what they are looking for and such.  I'm only accurate about 20% of the time.  The other 80% they are paying more then I would.

As for realism I like Storage Wars more but even there it seems a little stretched.  They are always doing the "estimated" value to come up with a win/loss vs what they can actually make.  I estimated my baseball collection to be over a grand via beckett.  I'd be lucky to get $250 for it however.

I agree. In this business you have to know four values.

1. The items retail value.

2. What is is actually worth.

3. What someone is willing to pay.

And if you're really smart

4. The amount to list it for to get a quick sale.

Tc I must agree with you. Even with my first lkr I know the first two values just those last two are hard to figure out and still make good money.

As for the show a live episode would be great to see. But I love to watch the show cause I know in units out there what AH finds in the lkrs there are those items plus better items worth hella more. So its just a little booster to keep this up.

One thing about this show I like is that they tell you that most units they buy are a bust.

Lets be honest who wants to watch them spend 400 on a locker with the coolest thing being a bread slicer and them only making 200 back? the rare finds are what makes the show

Yes, they do that in the on-screen disclaimer at the beginning, before audience has settled in. No audio to that effect.

Personally, I do. I'm not saying it has to be even 8 minutes every week, but 8 minutes in 8 episodes would be nice. Then complement that with 8 minutes of going to the dump.
