During the month of October, whoever makes the most posts in the Storage Auctions "In The News" category wins a $50 gift card to the retailer of your choice. New subjects also count as posts. (Posts in this thread don't count.)

Why don't you save a lot of time it just give it to Movieman now. He owns that section.

Nope, I won't be competing there anymore than I have been competing in the cList section. A $50 gift card doesn't do it for me. I would consider$150 but would truly participate if it were $250. ;D

I'm sure the other members of the forum appreciate your withdraw. ;)

A bit premature, aren't you!

Who won ?

I'll be tied up with auction schedules all day but I'll try to have a total by Sunday evening.

How do I keep missing these? I've been to busy to read thru everything here but overlooking this for a month is just sad.....
I think I should win. I posted zero news stories but I posted the best news stories! ;D

Been super busy. Will have a total this evening. If you're in a hurry to know, you could always show your team spirit and total it up yourself. ;) Probably would only take 10 minutes.

The part in red above is certainly accurate...and that's about how long it took you to move a half dozen posts from one place to another on the forum even though they sat nicely in their original spots for 6 months or more. ::)

Actually, I went through 850 +/- topics in the general auction talk category this morning. Took about 4 hours. If you notice the Storage Auctioneers and Storage Facilities categories have grown exponentially. If it isn't already obvious, I'm trying to attract auctioneers and storage facility managers/owners to the forum. I'm also trying to organize popular topics into their own category. Just look at the Storage Auction Reality Shows category. It didn't exist a year ago. I spent about 4 hours organizing all of the related posts. Now it's the 4th most popular category on the forum. It's just takes a lot of time to organize the forum like this...and I have so little free time these days.

Isn't bring them here to us like trying to get the Bloods and the Crips together?

I'm not at odds with any auctioneers or facility owners/managers. Are you? Auctioneers and facility owners/managers can be excellent sources of information.

Contest results are in.
This months winner is StorageAuctionFinds.
StorageAuctionFinds (send me a PM with your name, address & what retailer you want the gift card to.)
Here are the totals. I don't think anyone was actually trying too hard this month.
StorageAuctionFinds 8
alloro 7
HomeGrownPromos 1
MovieMan 5
calcoastgal 1
ncali 1
Voice of Reason 1
rulesforrebels 7

Just for future reference and so the ground rules are clear, do you guys care if Alloro participates in these contests?

They're there to run the price up, while we as buyers want the price to stay down. Any regular storage action buyer is at odds with both auctioneers and facility managers at every unit auctioned. They're not going to come here and give us the benefit of their wisdom on how to buy a unit for less, now are they?

No, but I think they can contribute a lot of valuable information to the forum. Especially in terms policies, procedures and laws. Plus, I think it would be interesting to hear about storage auction from their point of view. Inevitably, any information they reveal will help us become better buyers.

Yeah...okay...you hang onto that thought.

I lurk on a storage facility forum once in a while. While there is not a lot of talk about auctions I have gained some knowledge on how they work from their side. I mostly read because of the funny and weird stuff that happens at the facility and auctions.
Friending managers can be a good thing. I have one manager that really likes me. Last week she had a move out that left some things in the unit. She called and asked if I would be interested. I told her I would be in the following day to look. That morning she called and said they had loaded the stuff into a Uhaul and would bring it to me. So far in one week I have made over $150 on stuff that I put no work into. I have found in my area that most owners/managers just want the units cleaned out so they can rent again.
