Does anyone know what the purpose of seal Id numbers is? And, please no lame jokes like "so a seal can cash a check."
I'm talking about the numbered tags that they put on storage units that are pending sale. Why do they use them and is it a legal requirement?

I must say I have no Idea, with that over with. I do like the one "so a seal can cash a check."

If the seal isn't numbered then there is nothing stopping someone from breaking the seal, opening the unit, taking stuff, and then putting another seal back on. If it is a legal requirement then I would think it's a state by state law and not a federal one.
