Title: Error Messages .. Feb, 2013
Post by: MovieMan on February 28, 2013, 03:22:14 PM
Sometimes when I post and push the save button it will go to an error message. Since that has been happening lately I now copy the contents of my post before I push the save button so the work won't be lost. Eventually I get through and am able to truly save it.

IN ADDITION...I sometimes get the following message.

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

How the user at home could have caused the message (see red above) is beyond me !

It said, "might have done". They're looking for a pattern, something like... it might happen every time you paste text into the message window instead of typing it in, etc.

Here's another one that comes up when either coming into the site or when changing from one area to another, etc.

This doesn't happen for me on other websites.

Diagnosing connection button shows nothing when used. It can't figure it out.

Here is what I have found out. Simple Machines Forums are space hogs. This site utilizes a ton of resources, and at certain times, the shared server we're on can't handle it.

I have two options, spend $100 a month on a server that can handle all of the requests or pay an expert to spend several hours tweaking things to get them to perform better. I chose option #2.

I would have had someone work on it already, but the programmer I use has been extremely busy working on "the top secret"  ;) . As soon as he has time, I'll get him to make the changes. Until then, copy your comment before you post it.

Thought I should post SOMETHING before (or if) the site went DOWN again.

I think it was down for around 48 hours or so.  ::)

It's fixed. Only 10 customer service chats, 4 escalated service tickets and 4 phone calls later. I think I would be less disappointed with Host Gator if they would have just said "sir, we could care less about you or your site."

Supposedly they traced the problem to a .htaccess file. However, the real problem is that they hire idiots.
