Drew, I dont know if it is because the forum is starting to exceeds its bandwidth, or if you doing maintenance, or the structure of the forum is going down. But I have noticed for the last few days now I am getting mysql errors, as well as server reset errors while navigating through your site.
Any word on when this will be fixeD?
-
I've been having some problems also. It won't let you view topics or navigate through the site, and it's super slow!
-
Took me forever to log on.Kept getting server error.
-
3 a.m. here in California...woke up and couldn't get back to sleep, so tried here and FINALLY got on; 5 hours ago it was impossible!
-
Working on it guys! Thanks for your patience. Keep me updated with any problems you may have.
-
I'm not getting server errors here(using chrome) but its like site is either constantly refreshing or is loading, even after it has completely loaded.
-
Hello all! I upgraded the server. Let me know if you continue having any problems. Thanks!
-
Server still lagging for me, and I just got this mysql error 3 times
: MySQL server has gone away
/home/content/13/6072913/html/Sources/Load.php
390
and also got this one:
Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

6:30 a.m. Pacific time on 9/8/2011 and got this message just before actually being able to post.
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
And in general it takes a long time for anything to come up or to change from one place to another. This problem seems to be contributing to folks not posting or even reading over the last couple of days.

I agree with movieman........it is so slooooowww!

Received this error to night...

Drew

I am also getting internal server error messages. And when I am not, the pages are loading very, very slowly.

As I am writing this at 2 pm Pacific time, Sunday 9 11 2011 I would say the site is in such a state as to almost being unuseable.
1) Time to get to home page....about 30 seconds (should be like 2 seconds)
2) Click on "most recent post" link...time to get to it about 40 to 60 seconds.
3) Click to log in....goes to "internal error"; refresh it ... take about 30 seconds but then comes up.
4) Fill in log-in form...takes about 30 seconds and goes to internal error; refresh it gets there in about 30 more seconds.
5) Click on "most recent post" (happens to be "server problem" thread) and gets there in maybe 30 seconds.
6) Click on "reply", goes to "internal error"; refresh, it gets there.
7) now will post this and hope it goes through, but before that:
NOTE: Drew....unless I've read the recent posts page incorrectly it looks like only about 5 posts per day for last three days; hell, I post 5 posts in a hour and I have'nt been able to access the forum for days now...this is first time I've really gotten through.
8) now postiing...hopefully !
-
Still getting error.Don't know if this will go through.

I hate to complain about a free site, especially as a newbie. But....this site is painfully slow, no matter what time of day I visit. It doesn't stop me from trying to contribute or read posts but I will say that I'd be far more likely to visit more frequently if the site was faster. I'm a member on several online forums and none is even close to being as slow as this site. Every click of the mouse involves a lot of waiting and frequent errors that require a refresh or using the back button and trying again.
Again, I hate to complain but this site is unusually slow and I could see how some could lose patience and bail.
My two cents, for what it's worth.
-
Definitely some serious issues with the site. I keep getting the internal server error, it's super slow, and even after it's loaded it keeps acting like it's still loading (pretty sure I saw at least one other member with that issue too). Not sure what it is, but it is taking the fun out of trying to read posts or posts new threads on the site! Five posts a day is not good!
-
Site is slow, not getting error messages as before.
I did notice as others that the total amount of post until today. Today the number of posts is much better.
Love the site.
Wayne
-
What they all said , I have been trying since last week to get in , unlike Movieman , I was timing it with the Minute counter on the computer , till I would get the error message or the one to report the error LOL .
Evan today , it's like pouring maple syrup on pancakes while winter camping Outside in New England . ;D
-
Im not getting as many errors, only getting server connection errors when I try loading more than one page at a time on this site. But everything is still super slow.
-
Thanks for the updates guys. I am in the process of hiring help to fix this problem. Thanks for your patience!
Drew

No problem Drew, but here is a copy of the server error I am getting:

Drew,
I don't know if is worth mentioning, but there are generally more than 4 new posts in one day.
When I read through the new posts today, I noticed something that has occurred two or three times before. It seemed to be right as the forum started to show the looong load times. The only posts showing as "Today" were in the first four topics. there were no additional listings in any of the other sections. This seems very strange since the most active is the Storage Auction Stories and General Auction talk.
Hope this helps...

I am getting server error messages almost everytime I click on a page. The rare occasion that I don't, the page is taking 3-5 minutes to load. Just FYI.
Also, noticed that the membership number is under 1800. Yesterday, it was around 2200. What happened?

Well, let's try this test. As I post this at 6:10 a.m. on Tuesday, 9 13 2011 there were 8160 posts showing as having been posted. I'll check this at 6 p.m. this evening and at 6 a.m. Wednesday morn to see how many posts get through, but with other posters saying there are other abnormalities in the accounting functions (number of members?) who knows.
One thing's for sure...it's slow...that pouring molassess in winter is the best description yet !
-
I did clear out a lot of suspicious spam looking members last night
-
Well things seem to be a little bit faster today, still have the same server errors that I posted up above.
-
Well, i was finally able to log in. Still got ways to go though. Site's still a little sluggish.

In the roughly 15 hours between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. today (9 13 2011) there were somewhere around 8 posts.
Forgot to look at the number before I got to this point, and didn't want to risk losing what progress I made just getting to this point!
At any rate, whether its 7 or 10, not many posts. People just plain giving up I would guess. Good to hear some hired help is on the way as it's been about a full week now.

OK, it's 5:10 a.m. Wednesday, 9 14 2011 and looks like things are about back to normal.
Signing in, going to most recent posts, going to a specific thread like this one all took only 2 seconds or so instead of 2 to 3 minutes (and sometimes not getting there).
Between 6 a.m. yesterday and 5:10 a.m. today there have been 15 posts, with 4 of those coming this morning between 4 and 5 a.m. Pacific time from tclane and me.
We're back ! ;D
-
Drew,
update on my part, I am not sure what you did, but there is a big difference in speed as well as number of correction errors. So much faster today and so little errors then it was yesterday.
Thanks
-
I just got an internal server error message again. But the site is loading a little bit faster then yesterday. You're getting there Drew!
-
I'm with Jross. Just been able to read and post to a couple of different threads. Thanks a ton. I was going through withdrawel.
-
Working on it guys! Thanks for keeping me updated
-
Drew,
For me at least, it seems like the site is running at the normal speed. Quick to load and the posts seem to have increased significantly.
Keep up the good work.

Same here. Things seem back to normal!
-
I haven't been here long enough to know what "normal" is but I will say that the site is much faster now! No problem navigating the site at all.
Thanks!
-
Just FYI, I just spent 3 minutes waiting for a page to load. Wanted to let you know in case the same server issues are cropping up again.
-
For me this site is the slowest one I frequent. I don't read most of the 'new' messages simply because it's too tiresome waiting for pages to load.
-
Hmm will check into it tonight. I haven't had any issues on my iPhone today.
-
Its taking way longer than normal.
-
More slow loading and connection errors the past couple of days. I think the server SAF is on has reach it's maximum load. Here is the message that come up on the screen:
Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

This is my 1st post here since finding the site an hr or so ago and I must say it looks like alot of good reading but am discouraged from doing so cause the site itself is BEYOND slow. I feel like Im on a 56K modem in here.
I dont know what shared server company your using but in order for this forum to survive something has to be done. Most arent like me....They will just leave..

Wow, bold talk from a one poster ! (in order for this forum to survive ....). Doing fine for me 1 hour after your post and has been reliable, 99.9% consistently good for the last year.
You certainly are welcome to pursue the two or three other sites that deal with the same subject matter, but I think any of us who have "visited" them will tell you they amount to nothing compared to this one.
Let us know how you fare.
-
No problem here.
-
I agree with the 56K dial-up comparison. The pages on this site are best described as 'sticky'. Meaning that when you click a link the page you're on just sits there, stuck to the screen for about 30 seconds, then it switches over and starts loading the new page.
-
Yes, like Alloro said, it just sits there and then will finally load.
Great Site!!!

Gotta love guys that think just cause he has alot of posts THEIR chest sticks out further then others and to top it off push someone to another site when all they do is chime in on the problem that is occurring....AMAZING
Let me give ya some advice there Movie.......1700 post makes you nothing but a guy on the net that has 1700 posts......You dont get 10% off for it or your own parking spot with a sign that says 1700 on so please get off the HIGH HORSE here ok ??
Now back to the issue ok ?? I have quite abit of knowledge on servers and websites as I have run my own so if the owner of the site wants to get up with me I may be able to help...Yeah even with members like Movie here.....LOL
Oh and thats post # 2 Movie so ya dont have to count I did it for ya. I can be a smartass just like you and guess what ??? I only have 2 posts.....FREAKING AMAZING HUH ???

Lockerfreq....
You have a lot to say, that's for sure. Now if only it was useful to the forum. Guessing you won't be here very long but if you are that's fine too.
As to the forum being slow and a couple of the regular members chiming in that it is slow for them too, I have to say that at least at my end of the line it's still coming up at a reasonable speed. I don't have any 30 second load times. These did exist for everyone a month or more ago, but not since Drew made some changes.
Why not drop him a private message and offer your help. That would truly be a contribution to the forum. ;)

Thanks it depends on where the server actually as to how bad it will affect certain members. Closer members may not see the issue as bad but those further away will. Depends on what the issue actually is though. I do know this morning its slow as all get out here still. I mean Digitalpoint is a massive forum and smokes as far as speed. This one here creeps for me and I think the concept of the forum is a good one so was just chiming in saying it was slow for me also and saying Im old enough to remember running 56K and even the old old old 24k modems on dial up thats what my comparison was about and why....LOL
Oh also got a unit yesterday and looks as though I will do pretty good on it.

My concern was with your statement that if this forum was to SURVIVE it would need to get its act together in the speed department.
I felt this was harsh considering you hadn't been around very long (hence, the one post statement as a measure of time involved).
The fact is (imho) that this forum will last despite whatever difficulties it may have from time to time, and that it would survive without you or I regardless of how many posts either of us has.
Is the chest-puffing over ?

IMHO since I have run forums with server issues is that newbies will not stay if it takes forever to make a post or load a page Todays Generation is spoiled with speed and wont stick around if something takes forever to load or post. Been there and done that. So my opinion as a so called NEWBIE to the site is that of a NEWBIE and a Vet of forums. Read how back this actual thread goes now think of how many Newbies have been lost cause of said issue.
Hmmmmm to Survive and Grow and for the site to be what I would think the owner wants he will want this resolved.
No Chest pumping bud just a guy with an opinion just as you and many others here thats all.
-

I'm sure Drew will contact you if he feels he needs help, in the meantime as I suggested, why not...as a show of good faith...contact him. He probably would be more in tune to personal messages he receives than posts which are made.
-
I will do that Movie but in case he gets to this before I have a chance to msg him which will be this afternoon. I would guess the issue is without seeing anything that there are idle processes and ports staying open and running when they need not be and it needs to be set up to kill said events every so often as to not cause issues. That would be my guess unless the SQL is corrupt.
Will msg him when I get back.
Take care Movie and SORRY we started on the wrong foot. Hopefully we can now become better with a new beginning.

Just got this while trying to post this..

Just a side note....over 5000 websites are hosted on this shared server thats with Go Daddy.
Thats not good at all........and for what GoDaddy charges.... shared server would be better elsewhere as GoDaddy over sells the bandwidth which each server can handle to begin with. I personally would look at moving the site to another company but just my opinion.
