Is more than 50% of your income earned through buying & reselling storage units?
If not, what other ways do you earn a living?
-
Nope, 6 figures regular job, but only 5 doing storage lockers.

Yes, but recently I've been venturing out. I've expanded to a moving service type deal, basically for people who don't have a way to transport things they want to buy on craigslist. Its amusing when people pay more to have something brought to them than they did for the actual item itself.

Nope I'm still grinding out 40 a week, not complaining pay is good, good working conditions and great benefits. Been doing storage and other type auctions for a couple of years. A little play money, some quality time with mama and maybe a early retirement business. Life is good.

Same here, but I have a feeling this year I might beat my day job.

Is that because the storage end is growing or the day job is shrinking? :)
-
majority of my money is from day job. One year I was hitting gold room after gold room so I beat out my day job by a significant amount. Sadly gold rooms are few and far between these days.

At least he'll be saving them a lot of money and unfulfilled hard work.

I was told today a guy hit $8k in scrap copper in a 10x30 under tarps ... just filled to the brim. Thats the closest I've heard of any "precious" metals in quite some time.

I got a locker filled with over a 2,000 lbs of stainless steel, in the form of body jewelry, I still haven't tried to sell it yet. That's one of my next projects.. Over 1 million individual pieces (I did count it all) - Which took a while, so many gauges, lengths, and variations. Full retail I couldn't even guess the value, but the value factory direct from china is around 90 k.

You must be doing quite well to be able to put that kind of money on the back burner. :PDT_Armataz_01_37: #SAVEITFORARAINYDAY

I'm currently working with BYU, to donate some artifacts and fine art to. I'm hoping for a 50k-100k write off on my taxes this year. It's a process, were trying to make it a 2014 transaction. They are paying for the appraisal, but it takes time. I'll share more details of the whole donation process, once you get the donation forum set up.
I had three really good scores back to back to back - Then 1 ****ty locker this year. First time for me with three 10-100k + lockers in a row.

Here's one of the trailer loads, each box is about 50 lbs. Each box probably contains like 30k-60k peices. I had to take it in three loads, I think this one is the second load. The first load had a big table in it, and the last load I remember stuffing the trailer with all the heavy duty plastic shelving on the top.

There was a lot of other items in the unit, I think I sold most the other contents for 2,200 ish. All I have left is the Body Jewelry, some shirts, some d-rings, and a lot plastic fastener pieces (I sell a few every few days).
And I paid $100 bucks for it, I was offered 40k for all the body jewelry from this one guy, but he wanted me to owner finance it. I turned him down. I'll probably start working on moving this, once I get the BYU Donation thing finalized.

I would put the body jewelry on eBay as a lot or go by some tattoo/piercing shops and see if they're interested. Depending on the quality, they're probably worth more than scrap.

definately alot of respect for anyone doing auctions fulltime as a career, its definately a grind but fun as well.
