Roku 2 xs
« on: January 24, 2014, 12:00:45 PM »
In an effort to live more cheaply I've dropped my six billion channels from cable (and landline phone)
I have netflix, hulu and Amazon Prime that I stream off my iPad.  However, I enjoy working on my ipad while watching TV.  Can't do both.

In my room I just ran a HDMI cable from PC.  Stream off that.   But in living room I've been looking at the Roku.  Can get one for right around $50.

My other option is to hook up old laptop to TV.   But I don't really like having the wires going across the room and don't want to get up and search for things.  In my room I just have a wireless keyboard/mouse.  But that's not doing for me in living room aesthetics wise.  Remote would be nice.

Anyone use a Roku?  Pro's and Con's?

I've got a buddy that uses the Roku and he seems to like it. He's been off cable/dish for 6 months and hasn't had a complaint yet! I'm going to get out of dish/cable once my Dish Network contract is cheap enough to affordably break it. However, I got their iPad deal and it's crazy expensive!

I may hit you up on the streaming sites.   I was just unpacking some more and forgot I have a Wii.  I can use that to for hulu and Netflix too if need be.

Thinking right now its roku in the living room and PC and Wii in bedroom.  If I find I like a lot online and want to watch it in living room I'll use laptop.....

Well.....hmmmmm.
Seems to hook up a roku you have to enter a paypal or credit card number.
I don't want to do that.   I will never rent/buy anything off it.

I don't like just handing over my info.    This sucks.

So you can call and they will activate with no credit card.   Or use a prepaid.

Roku is kinda nice.  Lots of free channels but the paid stuff is crazy expensive.  $1.99 per episode for new shows, $10 for old series.....all of which I found online for free.
New Movies are pretty much the same as On-Demand.   But again, old stuff is way high.
Channels are up there too. $10/month, some that are online for free.
Don't think I'll be renting anything. Stick to all the free stuff.
