my best find has been a bunch of old coins! The unit was ok looking kind of junkie. stuff tossed around beat up boxes etc.. not a very attractive unit but it had a lawn mower in it and I knew someone who needed one so I got the unit for $90. Well in the back of the unit in the drawer of a nightstand was a cigar box slap full of old collectible coins!!! Took a lot of time figuring out what was worth what and how and who to sell them to but I think I totalled $6,780 or so on those coins! yea that was a good day!

Nice one.
I mean every unit is at least worth $100.00 for that price you can take a risk even with trash units. I paid $150.00 for this one unit that looked to be alot of work and no gain. Everyone around me said, good luck with the dumping fee's and all the work.
Well i turned $150.00 + $100.00 dumping fee, into a sale of $3200.00 so far, and i still have stuff for sale.

Coins...here are the two I remember....others made money too, but not as memorable.
One 1816 50 cent piece with strangely worn outer edge...still went for $25. I kept it for awhile considering its history as being minted just 4 years after the war of 1812.
The other good coin was a silver dollar minted in Carson City, NV. Forget the year, but not the $72 I got for it.

Usually when we see a meaningful comment like that the next thing we know we are being assaulted with spam.

That's why I said usually. He may turn out to be the top poster of the year !

He was pretty excited about your $72 silver coin......I probably shouldn't mention the one million dollar bill I found in one... ;D

The only coins I found were a bunch of counterfiets of extremely rare and valuable silver dollars. Near as I can tell they have some silver in them, but don't know anyone personally who processes scrap silver, so they just sit as I am not about to start pushing counterfeit coins online even if I state they are counterfeit and I am only selling for what little scrap silver value may be in them. :'(

If they're plated, you can always use a Dremel tool to remove the silver. Unless you have hundreds of them, it might not be worth the time because you won't recover a lot of silver. Might take several coins to recover a single gram (depending on the thickness of the plating.)

I found a penny about six months ago, not in a unit, it was in the coin dispenser at Subway and got jammed. It was mis struck...I sold it at my resale store for $8.00...I still think it was a cool find. :)
