Estate Sales
« on: November 26, 2011, 09:49:20 PM »
I love em.

Think I got about 3/4 of an ounce of 14K Gold.  I'm going to get them checked monday, but I already know one is 14K for sure!

The price for all this gold $6.

Then went to another estate sale and probably picked up roughly 2K in art for 70 bucks.  As scores go, today was the best!

Nice job, wish I could still find good estate sales here. Most of the estates here got everything according to the going market. Really good researchers working for them :(

Haven't found to many estate sales but a lot of yard sales... Hit one last weekend and got some Levis for $2 currently on Ebay one bid is at $8 so not to bad. We also picked up a nice entertainment stand for $20 currently in the Thrift store for $65.  Going to hit a  moving one day only sale today. never now what you will find.

Oh there are those WORDS again "You never know"[/b]  LOL  ;D

I may have to take a weekend off and do the sales instead of selling myself.  Starting to miss the estate auctions I use to attend.  Last few I went to had way to high prices for mid-range stuff.  No room for profit and nothing I wanted for myself.

That is a nice score.

Prices here around Boston have been insane at  estates sales , even if You are a collector and just want it for yourself .
It looks like the companies that are running them all , price them way above Fee- bay prices to start with.
Wife went to a sale a couple of weeks ago , dealers were lined up before 5:30 waiting for the 6:00 Am. number hand out ( she was 2nd. )   .
They opened the doors at 8:00 ( letting 10 in at a time ) and Her and the first 9 dealers walked through and back out adding the " New Company "  to there list of sales to avoid .

Finding treasure at estate sales is getting harder.   Like said, most are now run by estate companies.

What I've found is they must watch eBay & CL hard to price items.

I was doing great with old hand cranked meat grinders. $1-$2 at estates.  Sell on CL for $25-$30.
With in a month every grinder I saw at estates were suddenly priced at $8-$12.
Which is fine, still room for profit but then the Laws of Craigslist kick in.
You post the same type of item to much, everyone that has that item then posts and dives down price.
So now you can get grinder on CL/etsy for $5 but estates still mark at $10!

Same with old 1930-40s mixers.  Use to be $10-ish.  Refurbish and sell for $30-$50.
Now estate companies are asking $35-$40!

Still picking but haven't found a "score" in months.  Friend did.  Paid $20 or stereo.  Got $300 for speakers, $125 for tuner and $200 or amp.......threw away tape deck.  Literally couldn't give it away. lol
