Title: Just got a washing machine, free of charge
Post by: jrossjr79 on November 15, 2011, 08:46:41 AM
Raining like crazy here, so was not planning on doing much today. However while I was posting here on a different thread, my mother in-law called, said there was a washer machine in my alley that she saw. (she lives pretty damn close). So I go grab it, figuring if anything it will be a quick $50, the going price in my area for non working household appliances. So I am covered in rain and get to the washing machine, hell it looks in real good condition, maybe only a few years old. So after it stops raining I am going to dry it off and see if it is in working condition. I may be able to get $150 - $200 if it is working. :)

An old co-worker had a saying...

If it's for FREE, it's for ME!!

BTW, that storm is hitting us here in Austin. Don't mind the rain, but it feels like a sauna right now.

I m guilty of that too.

I see a washing machine or dryer on the side of the road, I go to the front door and ask whats wrong with it.

If it sounds minor and I end up taking it home and see if i can repair it.

80 percent is repairable and cheap so i sell it for 50-75 a pc.

Not bad.

it doesnt happen very often,  just on bulk days  twice a year.

This year around, I will be doing more picking again. Mostly it will be during bulk pick up. Have schedules already in hand for a few neighborhoods taht are pretty much wealthy neighborhoods.

Well bad news, it does not retain water, and it does not spin. Oh well, at least I know someone who buys broken washing machines for $50.

not much unless you want to part them out and try your luck on ebay.

otherwise, nothing - you ll be hoping someone will pick it up off your curb and outta there.

Correction, in my area, I know several people who buy broken or non-working appliances anywhere between $20 - $50.

However I dont even need to worry about that, I got it fixed, should be able to make at least $150 for it.
