Title: Storage Auction Secrets
Post by: Travis on December 18, 2012, 08:28:27 PM
Cobia recently suggested that some of the truly best finds probably need to be kept secret. Anyone else agree?

I can think of a few things that I would keep secret.

Is there anything you could find in a storage unit that you would never mention to others? And why?

Cash most likely, just because, although there was someone today telling everyone how she found $400 cash yesterday from a unit she paid $5 for.  (noone was impressed).

I have found that I am uncomfortable telling our friends that a book sold for $575, though I don't know why I am?  I don't even want them to view our listings really, which is strange. I feel like it is just a glimpse of the total picture, and gives the wrong impression about this business and our life now. This could also be because we have had more than 5 people we know, wow you do storage auctions, I want to do that too and follow us around.  I prefer to be vague and not talk specifics in person though I don't mind sharing basically anonymously online  ;)

If I found a large sum of cash, I would keep it quiet. Although, I would probably complain about the lumps in the mattress.  ;)

Maybe i'm being a bit paranoid. Yes, large sums of money should probably not be made public. Not sure what else would be a great find that should be kept private. I guess I was thinking if you found something that was so valuable that it could change your life (at least for a couple of years) you would want to keep it out of the public view.

I like the idea of best find of 2013 thread, Travis you gonna run with it?
