Title: Theres pep in my step, got the first Locker
Post by: acman on September 09, 2011, 11:00:21 PM
This one has a story.

First of all I payed $250 for that 5x10 I show a picture in the other thread.  I over payed by $120 bucks but I guess like everyone it is a learner unit.  Having said this, I'll make money.

First few things I am falling in love with.

1. He takes phone bids.
2. He gives you A WEEK to clean out the unit.
3. I didn't pay sales tax.
4. I got at least 5 minutes by myself to damn near look at every item I could see in each unit.
5. There were 4 bidders total(after 4 showings) for 3 units in a metro Detroit area, and I thought the crowds at PS auctions were small.

Anyways on to the goods(I'll try to post pictures tomorrow, TIRED!)

2 Bombardier Ski Doo belt drives
The compound bow
Paint ball gun CO'2 canister
8 person Coleman tent
Basic Shoe/screw in cleets
Tools(some husky)
Holy 10 to 14 year old clothes
couple pairs of scrubs
Books galore
Some old looking sword thing with spanish written on it(rusty though
Some brand new shelving unit
A 10,000 Brazil note(Worth couple bucks, but it's sweet lol)
Some hand welded desk piece.
Fishing lure
Case that would be used to hold a coin collection

Disgusting finds
Slimy old fish
Food
Tampax

Tell you what I haven't worked this hard in a long time and I have like 3/4 of the damn unit to remove.

In regard to your question about the metal man on the "motorcycle"....see this thread as a starting point.

I think your's is more local than that....if I had it I would put it with plastic motorcycle models I am currently selling and try to get $3 to $5 for it....but hey, maybe it's worth $20 ?

Definately more local, I have tried like 20 combinations of words to find this thing, but nothing.

looks like some recent trench art.

Curious to know more about the picture that is above that though.

Just a hepa air filter, needs filters but I might be able to pull a $20 bill from it.

I wouldn't list the motorcycle dude for under $75.00.  Yeah, it's high, but it appears to be trench art, and folksy looking, which does have a following.  You would be surprised at what art collectors/fans will pay for something like that.
That includes bikers. If it doesn't sell at that price, then I'd drop it to about $50.00, but I'd be surprised if you don't get an offer on it for that range to begin with.  It's funky, and funky sells.

Yeah apparently you, me and my father are on the same page, cause me and the pops were thinking at least $50.

It will be interesting to see what it brings. When I look for a price like that I put it on eBay as the millions watching are a better shot than the hundreds coming through a flea market.

At a flea market if I put out a 20 year old Nikon underwater camera I would be lucky to get $30 for it, but at eBay it brought $85 I think.  An underwater enclosure for a video camera (only certain models) wouldn't have brought $20 at the flea (even though it looked DYNAMITE) but on eBay it brought $100.

Take a look at that link I provided earlier about the German artist who sells that kind of item. He gets in the $50 and up range for his items.

*****

As to "trench art" there may be a new definition being used here that I am not familiar with. The trench art I have sold has come from WWI and WWII...literally from the trenches. I wonder how much "trench art" is being done in Iraq and Afganistan?

Did you try "nuts and bolts folk art" ?  I did and got this (see link below). Pieces on there from $25 to $200.

Also forgot to mention this storage company doesn't even mess with contacting previous owners for personal non sellable items. I threw away like 4 birth certificates, a marriage license, a SS card, hundreds of photos, ring appraisal, tax forms, etc. Seriously, if so one goes dumpster diving, the literaly could steal this persons identity in 30 seconds flat.  I mean I could have dropped her **** off at her last known mailing address, but I didn't want to deal with that. Although when I buy from this place again, I may drop items off at a club house or whatever there is, I don't know though, the lack of drama may turn out to be a winner.

As you see in my sig, got another unit.  Nothing to write home about.  A couple Dry Fit Golf Shirts and a few pants, but nothing earth shattering.  I did get a bar(needs work) and a bar chair and a Workout station(Probably is only good for parts, but I'll try and upload my iPhone picks to give you an idea.  Unfortunately I at the time didn't think I was overbidding, but everything turned out to be Broken or in need of repair.  On the plus side I know I have made $20 already on a table with no glass.
