Antique Bamboo CHair from the Phillipines???
« on: January 30, 2011, 12:55:52 PM »
Hi, found this in an auction. It's a bamboo chair, I'm assuming it's from the Phillipines since the people who owned the unit were from the Phillipines and moved there. Anyone know the value of this chair? Also curious to know any history. Below are a few pics adn below that is what I was told when I asked about it on yahoo answers...

I live in Cebu and I have a bench very near the style you show but it is no where near as curvy as yours. Here in Cebu if they curve the bambo it is usually done by soaking and curving (man made) the ones you show appear to be (natural) which means it would be more expensive and most of it would be from underneath the ground not what is growing above ground which again would make it more expensive.

Yours is much more fancy than what I have seen here where I am. I don't know what other areas do...also remember if it is made for export it will be much more fancy and expensive than what is made and sold here locally.

Another thing I noted is the color...if you look at the bamboo products from other countries they are usually on the lighter color side (even the exported items).

If I was forced into a guess I would guess that what you show was made in the Philippines, whether some one had it specially made to send home (State Side or other country) or it is something exported for sale, I don't know.

Havn't really gotten much new info. Taken it to a few upscale resale shops, they all like it and say its nice but its so unique and strange that it doesn't really go with many peoples home designs probably so none of them really want to take it, not even on consignment. I could probably get rid of it on craigslist for $80. Actually was almost gonna do just that but a buddy came over and took a look and started talking about how unique it was I feel like I should keep it even though I really have no use for it....lol.
