Title: Ridiculous Craigslist Free Posts
Post by: HomeGrownPromos on April 15, 2013, 01:40:36 PM
I'm sure you are like me and troll the Free section of your local Craigslist. I've seen a major influx of these ridiculous ads in the free section.. Stuff like "cut my trees down and keep the trees." or "Demo my bathroom and keep the fixtures." Do you guys see these types of ads in your local market? Or is it just the people of Raleigh/Durham being too damn cheap to hire a professional?

For an example..

This guy wants you to catch moles in his yard and the lucky laborer gets to keep the moles! What a treat!

What is ridiculous about them? I did a similar ad a few years back when a storm took down a tree in my yard. The ads was clear that the tree had fallen and if they wanted to come and cut it up and take it way it would become their wood for free. I had several people show up, do some cutting, and then haul it away. Didn't cost me a dime and they were happy to get the wood for nothing.

I suppose the wood example was a weak example. However, the moles, home demo, auto repairs.. yes auto repairs.. all seem a bit ridiculous.

I can see how trees can be beneficial to people who cut the trees down. My apologies.

I used to buy foreclosures, fix them up and resell them. Whenever the carpet needed to be replaced, I would put an ad on Craigslist for free used carpet and pad. I would require them to take everything.

I got free labor, they got free carpet and pad. It was a win win for everyone.

Carpet I can see. But people want someone to come out, demo a bathroom and take all the stuff with them. Or they want someone to come out, repair their car and in return they can keep the broken parts. I don't know.. To me it just seems like people are trying to take advantage..

This was in todays Jacksonville CL "wanted" ( not free category) yet looks like he wants free unsecured money...hmmmm, wonder how that's working out for him?....

" Broke need $100,000.00 to start over"
" Hi my name is ____ and I need $100,000.00 too start my life over. The only thing I want and will never give up is my daughter and my dog, they are the only parts I want in our new life. I understand $100,000.00 is a lot of money but that will help me buy a house, a van/pickup or box truck and help me start a pressure washing business. If you can help please email me at _____@gmail. Thank you for reading this post it is a serious post and I ask only serious responses.

Can't blame him for trying, but I think he would have better odds if he took the last of his money and invest in lottery scratch off tickets!

I looked real quick in my local ads, but didn't find anything too goofy.

Don't underestimate the power of these ads. My mother saw an ad on Craigslist where a single mother needed assistance. She paid their deposit to get them an apartment, bought the kids clothes, bought them some basic furniture and groceries. Probably spent $1500 on some people she had never met. I can only imagine how many other people helped the lady and her kids out as well.

I almost flipped out when my mother told me what she did. I was almost certain it was a scam. But, she's a smart lady and not easily fooled. She went to visit them and scoped everything out before she helped them.

I'm sure they work for some people. See them all the time on Craigslist & local Facebook groups. Sometimes they tick me off though. On one local Facebook page there was a lady selling higher end used clothing, shoes, other home accent stuff for near retail price. Then she had other posts in the same forum about some down and out family member with kids that needs stuff for free; you know clothes, shoes, household goods, etc. On top of that, in the photos of the stuff she was selling you could see that she had a really nice house, and her Facebook page wasn't private, so you could tell by her lifestyle she had money.

It would be a cold day in hell if I had a close family member with kids that was "down & out" that I would be begging other people to donate thier stuff if I had diggs like she had!

I think there is a fine line between asking for a little help and taking people for fools!

You have got to be weary about craigslist for sure. We have the same thing happening in my area (Fayetteville NC) where people are begging for stuff, making up all kinds of stories about kids and disability, and then turning around and selling it. Its easy to spot, and some people are dumb enough to use the same phone number in both ads.

All I can say is MagicJack Plus. For $20-30 a year you can have a phone number to use just for CL. Get 2, one for buying and one for selling.

lolyeah those are ridiculous. there actually are people who will do work for you for "free" if you let them keep scrap metal and things like that however that's only certain types of jobs those people would be interested in.

i think alot ofpeople put up stupid ads just for their amusement or to see if it will make it on best of craigslist.
