I've got more tires. From past threads you know I hate CL tire buyers but not many other options for moving them. Shipping is way to much hassle to ebay. Used tire stores give you pennies for hem.
Anyone come up with any other options since my last rant?
Seems everyone offers way low for used tires with near 100% tread. I thought three, low-pro, 255s that retail for $175/ea would sell quickly at $75/ea or $60/3. That's $20-$25 per tire. They still have the little bits of rubber knobby things stiking off them.
Nope. Get offers of $20, $30....for all.
Or pity stories, I'm a single mom, lost job, tire is flat......wants for free.
Really, I get them free. I'd totally give them away to someone truly in need. And it's all profit so sell price doesnt matter but still...its principle .....you can't get crappy ties for $20. These are 60,000, v rated, all weather.

Last week i went to look on CL for a 15 inch tire, could not find crap. Went to the county used tire drop off spot, you can't take those, county property. Anytime you need one you have to pay top dollar, to try to sell it you will only get the bottem dollar.

With no tire warranty, no road hazard warranty, then the cost of mounting, balancing, and tire alignment, buying used tires for $75 each isn't worth it. Then there's the ones who will offer the tires still mounted on the rims thinking it a great deal. Well no it's not a great deal since I might not want your rims. Then I have to have those unmounted and dispose of the rims on top of everything else I'm paying for. I've bought used tires off CL but my top dollar amount I'll pay is $50 each or $40 if they come on rims.

That's a typo.
Asking $25 each or $60 for all three.
People are offering $20-$30 for all. Like $6.66-$10 a tire.
And I've had people try to talk me down over "I have to pay to mount and balance"
So what? You still have to pay that if you buy online or tire shop.

Yes but at a tire shop with new tires you're getting 40K miles or so before having that expense again. You don't get that same span between tire changes with used tires. For me though, when it comes to negotiating a price the biggest issue is the lack of a warranty.

I would guess that has been thought about and dismissed for whatever reasons. The most successful idea I saw working some years ago was recyling little pieces of them for use in "asphalting" type operations.
With the millions of used tires in the USA it's a market just waiting for the right "futurist" waiting to pounce.
Of course that group will have to have chemists, engineers, money-men to make it happen! ;D

Tires would be a good thing to barter I would think.
Especially if you're near a marina. Tires make great boat bumpers at the docks.

I have an air saw (pneumatic hack saw) that makes quick work of cutting tires but not sure how you invert them. Maybe once the sidewall is off it loses it stability.
I'd try it and let you know but the only old tire I have are really small. Wouldn't make much of a planter.....

The next time I get a tire I will do it and see how much I can sell it for. Might be the next thing to do.
