I was told that's a direct violation of the eBay TOS, and that once they catch up with you they will close all of your accounts and lock you out from opening up another account.

not saying you aren't correct but can you post the part of the TOS that says this? it was actually an ebay rep on the phone who told me to do this. i complained that by opening a store i lost my free listings and she said just open a second account with a store and keep my personal account.

i would think a business account belongs to the business and the personal account belongs to your person.

i dont claim im right on this issue lots of sites have crazy terms of service and ebay has some stupid rules like no way for sellers to protect themselves or show proof on pickup/delivery items but i was told to do this by an ebay rep and also have seen time after time people suggest doign this on the actual ebay forums through the ebay website.

I think as long as you are sure to be careful and keep the accounts separate there is no problem.

The way I understand it is that a business account and a second personal account would be fine. I also read somewhere that ebay will allow a second seller account when the two have completely different markets.

If you sell costume jewelry and comic books, they'll allow two seller accounts so that the two specialties can be kept under different names.

I'm not sure if there is a limit to this, but something to research further if your needs permit.

And I'm not claiming to be correct. It's just what I was told by an eBay rep back when I first started selling. Things could've changed by now too.

I have 6 different accounts with different email accounts but with the same pay-pal account.  I keep them all category specific. Like Clothing for one account, collectibles, etc... and one as a free for all account.  The free for all account keeps getting screwed with limitations all the time because i category switch it all the time.  Once you start selling large volumes under a different category e-bay puts you under their micro-scope.  I am not sure if all this has all been said yet because i was too lazy to read all the posts..

Pay-pal! Keep a bank account that is for Pay-Pal only. do frequent deposits into it from Pay-Pal! Once those funds reach your Pay-Pal bank account get them into your regular bank account fast!  This way if you run into problems with Pay-Pal or E-Bay (same company in my opinion) your money wont get completely locked up.  If you run into problems Pay-Pal will freeze your bank account and you will have to submit quite a bit of paper work to un-freeze it.

ebays policy

Policy overview
There are many reasons why users would choose to have more than one eBay account. For example, users who like to buy and sell may want separate accounts for each activity. Other users who maintain businesses on eBay may prefer to manage separate accounts for different product lines.

Whether you have one account or more, eBay expects users to manage each of their accounts effectively in order to meet the highest buyer and seller standards. These standards and rules regarding performance, risk, and best practices are applicable for each account and help ensure a safe and positive experience on eBay.

Users are expected to resolve issues as they arise, and follow the steps provided by eBay to bring accounts back into good standing before continuing to buy or sell with other accounts. Learn more about how to increase limits on your account.

Make sure you follow these guidelines. If you don’t, you may be subject to a range of actions, including limits of your buying and selling privileges and suspension of your account.

What are the guidelines?

Allowed
Users may have multiple accounts on eBay. We understand that there are various reasons why someone would choose to have more than one account.

Not allowed
Registering new accounts or using other existing accounts to avoid buying and selling restrictions or limits or other policy consequences

Just make sure you categorize your accounts so use one account for clothes, purses, etc and use the other for electronics and jewelry. Your doing it for categorization purposes they can't say you are doing it to raise your limits.

I've had problems with Ebay before, when I attempted to sell Microsoft software in sealed boxes, they removed my listings. I send them a photo of the software box with a current issue of my local newspaper and I didn't have any issues after that.  They also removed a police badge I was trying to sell as well. I have a whole bag of old police badges and no where I can sell them. I believe the policy is the badges must be at least 100 years old and obsolete, the ones I have are only 70 years old and obsolete.

Next time there is a gun show in your area take the police badges there and you will sell them. Or there is also the dreaded sit out in the sun all day local flea market.  ;)

Strange - I wonder if your listings were removed due to how you worded the auction?  I have new and used software up for auction and have sold a number of copies.  Never had any issues.

On the badges - I'd sell them in a "lot" on ebay with other types of badges or collectibles.  I'm sure there is a collector board for discussing them somewhere on the net.

I guess you live in one of those Union of Soviet Socialist States.  ;)

How ironic is it that some of the most "free" states are from the former Confederacy.

Well I just got hit with the category sell limit.  It seems on software you get 20 listings or so.  After that you can't list any for 30 days to combat fraud.  Called customer service and was told they would give me 2 more listings for 30 mins but couldn't up my category limit until I have 10 feedback in that category.  I was like great - I've sold 15 items and have 2 feedback in that category.  Buyers are really lazy in leaving feedback IMO.  Even with free shipping, 1 day turn-around, and I know they have the product.

Ya - if I was to ever move out of the south I'd be in trouble.  Would have to be to Texas or other such state.  I always have to clean my truck out before I go on post to make sure I've removed all my pistols and other weaons.  I like to be prepared.

eBay just increased my selling limit from 10 items/$500 a month to 100 items/$5000 a month. I only have 2 feedback, and have completed 3 successful transactions. I just opened this account about 3 months ago. I'm doing most of my sales on Craigslist, but I've noticed that some items I've had a hard time selling there have sold pretty quickly on eBay. I will definitely posting more items to eBay now, both auctions and fixed price.

I'm wrapping up my online eBay class and planing on starting my account. So this means I can't put up a bunch of ads out the gate to get rid of inventory.
