Title: How do you "prompt" eBay buyers to make their payment?
Post by: MovieMan on December 30, 2013, 09:54:15 AM
Sometimes eBay buyers "forget" to pay within a reasonable time (say 3 days).  When that happens how do you prompt them to get with the program?

I send them an eBay email saying. "Thought you’d like to know I have your (item) packed
And ready to ship to you; just waiting for your payment.  Thanks !"

Same here - I will send them a gentle reminder that they need to pay

I'm not so gentle.. What's the line from Goodfellas? "Business bad? ...F U, pay me. - Oh, you had a fire? ...F U, pay me. -  Place got hit by lightning, huh? ...F U, pay me.

I send them a second invoice on day 3 and then open an unpaid item case after day 4.

First I send an invoice with a message similar to MovieMan's message. Then if still not paid in another day or two I send another message (not attached to an invoice) saying something like:  I have still not received your payment for this item. If you need more time to pay or if there is a reason you are not paying please contact me so I know what to expect, otherwise my EBAY account will automatically open an unpaid item case against you.  Sometimes, depending on the item and how easily I think I can get another buyer, I will include a line about: If you bid on this by mistake let me know and we can just cancel the sale so I can get it relisted.  I have had a couple admit they couldn't really afford to pay. I'd rather know sooner rather than later so I can find another buyer.

You do know how that story ended, right?      ;D

there's really not much you can do except for only do buy it now and require immediate payment. i think sometimes sending an invoice or message can help if the person honestly just forgot or it slipped their mind but i think there's plenty of buyers who aren't too concerned about paying in a prompt matter. ive had people who buy from me and then after me messaging them say oh I get paid next friday is it okay if i pay you then? how annoying yeah id love to sit around with an item packed for another week waiting for you to maybe pay. i run into this quite a bit.

not that your not in the right to do so, however this is only going to annoy buyers and make it more likely you get bad feedback for no deserved reason but wanting to be paid.
