Where do you get boxes for shipping?
« on: December 30, 2012, 10:29:49 AM »
Question for those of you who regularly ship merchandise. Where do you buy your boxes, bubble wrap, etc.? Are there discount packing supply stores? Are there certain size/shaped boxes that are cheaper to ship?

my local storage facility saves me small and medium boxes and i pick them up whenever they have 20+ they also save me some kick ass soft foam sheets that are 2" thick and easy to cut to size

the ups store in my area seems to have the best bang for your buck on bubble wrap with a monster sized roll of small or large bubble 12" wide for $39  im not sure how long it is when its standing on its side its got to be close to 3 feet high

check your yellow pages for box manufacturers , if you have any in your area they may have stupid cheap deals on stuff thats been misprinted or overruns (i got 400 boxes suitable for first class mail , a little bigger than the usps small flat rate priority box for a whopping dime each)

tape does go bad try not to buy it by the case unless you are going to go through 36 rolls in fairly short order and never store it in cold
ive been getting mine at staples for around 13$ a six pack 2" x 110
if you shop you can get cases for a buck and a half a roll on ebay delivered

Best prices for bulk buying Starboxes.com.  When they send a coupon I stock up and the more you buy the cheaper the individual price.

liquore stores, restaurants, stores, my work. as for packaging supplies i really like packaging peanuts light so less $ cost for shipping and does a good job of keeping things safe. many companies recycle them and will give you them if you go pick them up on a monthly basis. its frowned upon and maybe illegal but many people use priority shipping boxes and rewrap them but post office will open them up if they think its their package.

Mostly from work. I check the loading dock just about every day. Finding boxes usually isn't an issue, but packing materials is harder to come by.  One day there was two big boxes of bubble wrap, I took them both. Another day they got new chairs and they were packed in long sheets of thin foam, 1/8 inch by 20 inches by 30 to 40 feet. I took it all from the trash carts, brought it to a store room and rolled them up into 15 rolls. I attempted to sell them on Craigslist for $30, but no one was interested. I've been using them to pack my own Ebay shipments for the last couple months now. It's also been every useful as a background for my ebay photos as the attachment shows.
