Post by: money4nothing on February 24, 2012, 03:51:39 AM
I am awake.  :o.  Heading out to new market to us. Weather windy and high of 80.

Hoping we do well. Booth rent only $3.00 So getting two. Think we can make that back easy. So only have to make up the gas. Place advertises about the other vendors being vultures. LOL

Will update as I can.

Dang that is some cheap price.  I'd of gotten 4 so it would be the same price as the 1 I pay for.  Then could spread out all the cloths, books, smalls, etc. that I have.  Of course watching 4 tables would be a PITA.

Good lock Money - hope you do well.

Holy crap. My flea charges $25 a space. Of course, it's the Raleigh flea market... supposedly the largest, most frequented flea in the south. I dunno about that, but we see a TON of people, even when the weather is bad  :-\

Anyway, good luck to you!

Thanks for the well wishes.  ;D Not bad being end of month and a Windy Friday.

We were able to leave the van overnight (owners live on premisses and gated and locked) for $3. Cheaper than driving home. We take the truck and van.

It is cheap why we decided to try it out.  the other Market we sale at is $15 + T a space.

Made about $67 after expenses. LOL (Don't cringe Moveman  ;)) Not a big crowd. was very windy had to keep picking things up. Only lost one picture and votive when we were packing up. We did better than the vendors around us. Mainly went to get the feel for it. Glad we made some doe.

The other vendors said Saturday get there at 5:00 Am to get in.  ::)

Oh had the highest amount of clothes sales today. Think tomorrow will be better.

And the vulture vendors are from the other market down the street. I think there spaces are $25.
Little old lady was looking for yarn (did not take any with me) told her I would bring some tomorrow, Husband came back and asked if I could get it today? ??? No to far to drive. She is a vendor at the other Flea.  So now have to go dig that out to take with us.

Forgot finally sold the $1 set of plates for $2.   ;D ;D

The little old lady called about the yarn, said she is coming to come get it in the morning. Found 100 skeins Will sell them to her for $1 each. So if you add half that to today's total (if that is allowed  ;)) not to bad of a day.  ;D
That is if she shows up we will see.  ::)

Well, if I made $50 after expenses it would take me 20 Saturdays just to pay off the $1k locker I just bought.
If I made $100 after expenses it would take 10 Saturdays.

So that's either 5 months or 2.5 months just to get even on that lkr if I didn't count eBay/CL. A few CL items in that lkr I'm sure but doubt there will be eBay items.

That's a long haul at those rates. Think I'll stick with the $250 to $350 I've been netting at my flea.  ;D

Yes a long haul ...  ;)  We are still learning. And trying new markets. think we can make those numbers. One day.  :D Usually net those kind of # with our yard sales, but can't have them at the thrift any more due to the county. Can't do it on Fridays which was our best day there.

Currently working on the $100 box lot. So if we net what we did yesterday that will be in the black. And only took a third of the stuff from that. The clothes locker we got finally in the black with a lot to sell. Think the clothes will do well today.

Percentage wise Average # of people shopping to money made we did well yesterday. Had wind gust to 30mph.  ::)

The plates from another topic of priced to low. There was a whole in one of them. Man bought the small plates for skeet practice.

So working off smaller investments = smaller returns.  ;)  We will get there.  ;D

Well that is about an avg day for me at the flea Money.  Lowest day was $76, with the highest being $130 in the 5 times I've gone out to sell.  Like you I'm still working to learn what sells at my flea.  Some days it's the movie/games, and other days old world coins.

Next weekend I'll be out of town with the kids competetion.  I'm planning to hit the flea on the 10th.  I may head to the other one 2 miles from the big one.  Is little smaller but $5 a spot instead of $12.  Talking with people they say a good 80% of people that hit one comes down to the other.  Those I suspect may be more willing to buy.  Get a ton of "walkers" at the first flea.

One of the units I bought this month (bags of cloths) turned out to be 4 bags of kids (infant - toddler) sidze cloths.  So I'm going to take them, all my jeans, selection of books and put them all out on one spot.  Then my normal flea setup in the other spot.  See how that works.

Well did a little better today. $89 after expenses. I am cringing now. ~~`/~~

It was busy Sold more clothes @ $3 a spot took one just for them.

Realized last night did not have the middle of the road priced stuff, the stuff above $2 and below $10  ???

Not sure what I was thinking may have effected some of our sales. Did come home lighter.  ;D

Yeah Craig it is a lot easier making a profit if the rent is lower. We had three spots and paying for the van to sit over night $12. Cheaper than the other market for one spot. We had a lot of over flow from the other larger market down the road.

Also it is the end of the month. Not to many people looking for the appliances we had, did sell a hot air popcorn popper (husband did not think we would sell it haha). It was brand new in the box.

Debating on hitting a community yard sale on This coming Sat. So may only go to the market on Sunday..

Suppose to rain tomorrow and we are beat.

Oh the lady showed up for the yarn and only wanted to pay .50 a skein. No thank you. I put it out after she showed up and it was after lunch and sold $7 worth. I will keep it for .50. (I knit sometimes  ::))

Did see one of our fellow auction buyers. He was telling us about another place that sells on Monday and everyone says it is really good. It too is down the road from one of the largest markets around here (they have a waiting list for vendors). This other place is $15 for a 20 X 20 no tables. (we have 15 so not a problem).

Well Craig wish you luck and we will figure this stuff out. At least it is not a total bust when we go. Wished we could do our yard sale. clear a minim of $200 for one day.  ::)

Today was cold as hell and windy to boot. Same weather last time we went (when we made almost $150) but we only made around $50-60. We had to pack it in around one because it was so windy. All our stuff was flying everywhere! Oh well... I guess I'm lucky in the sense that I have to opportunity to do this as a hobby while I'm in school so minimal profits, while discouraging aren't back-breaking. Weather's going to be the same tomorrow so I'm holding out until next weekend.

Today was cold as hell and windy to boot.

Well, it was warmer at 5:30 a.m. when I arrived for my reserved spot, than it was an hour or so later and throughout the next 5 hours...and windy...the wind more a bother than the cold....sort of just nags at you and of course makes you look at every tall item on your tables and jump at every sound even from 50 feet away.  I hate wind.

To boot....I did $170 when looking for $250.

Same here Movieman got colder as the day went on. Sun come out wind would die down and actually hot. Wind start up the jacket back on. And jumping with every gust.

Husband had to take one of the sweatshirts selling and put it on.

Maybe why so tiered.

Guess wind is almost as bad as rain.  ;)

Shmoopy glad you made a little.

We did have a funny. Had a tall kitchen cart with fold out sides. On the smaller side we priced at $15. Had a lot of looks. Funny how you are willing to negotiate if things are slow at the moment. A vendor came looked at it and what was the least we could take we said $12. She said let me think about it and walked off. She was at the next vendors table and a couple came and gave us the $15. When she came back we told her sold right after she walked away. Saw a little of that the haggler and someone right behind them willing to pay the asking price.

Also first time we saw an a**whole vendor. Asked us to park in our space which we were in our space. He had stuff just laying everywhere. And complained the whole day about being out back.  ::)  And he had his tables covered for most of the morning while he was gone socializing or complaining.

At the end of the day (I was getting grumpy) Had two different old men look at my antique galvanized watering can priced at $20 and say you will never get that. I snapped at the last one and said have already sold one. Time to go home.

There is always next weekend.  ;D
