Title: Liability Insurance?
Post by: MatchesMalone on December 09, 2011, 01:34:20 PM
Saw an ad for a new flea opening in my area in January. The ad stated that they require sellers to have a resale permit (expected) and liability insurance. I've never heard of this, but thought I'd see if anyone else has run into something like this.

I'm assuming that the operators are trying to keep their own costs low and pass that responsibility on to the vendors.

And how much would liability insurance be for a flea booth??

Whole thing just seems like an odd PITA to me.

Well if no one rented any booths from them, their dumb policies would change.

Liability insurance can be expensive for like a store, million dollar policy, etc.  It also depends on the state you are in and what the min requirements are.

As for a flea requiring a resale permit and insurance....ok - I'll pass.  We don't need either in order to sell at a flea market.  I don't know if the regular vendors do but I doubt it.  Is one of the reasons if I get to the point of wanting to open a store I'd do a perm flea market booth before doing a real store.

This flea opens in January. I'll try to keep an eye open and see what kind of response they get.

To be honest, I hadn't been paying attention. After reading your post, I hit google and checked a couple of other places online and could not find anything about this new flea.

So, either they crapped-out before even really starting OR they are horrible at promoting themselves.

I have also found several other local fleas that we need to shop to see what they're about. There is one that offers free "lawn" spaces the first weekend of each month, but that one is a pretty good drive, so we'll see. Plus, I imagine, you would have to get there around 9pm the night before to get a spot.   :P
