Well, it is pretty much common sense but here goes.
If you buy small 5 x 5 lockers without much furniture you might be able to do it in a small sedan.
If you buy a 10 x 10 it probably will have some furniture and a van, pickup or any vehicle with a trailer would work.
If you buay a 10 x 15 the van, pickup, trailer route again
*****
If you buy a 10 x 20 and up you are looking at multiple trips in whatever vehicle combination you have.
Be prepared for the gas and time costs involved.

I have gotten away so far with a 4-dr sedan. Last one had tow hitch, this one does not and its been problematic. I'm limited on size of units I can bid on.
I have access to occasional use of both a pick-up and a box van but can't depend on getting them with just 24hrs notice.
What my vehicles size does is limit my buying power or I must add into price of bid the cost of renting the unit for a month or renting a truck.
With the sedan with tow package I had to add in cost of gas to make several trips instead of just one, had I had a truck.
I wouldnt recommend my system. I'm currently on the look out for,at minimum, a small truck and preferably with a tow package.....

When buying full time, I moved with two 26' U-Hauls every week. I would have used an 18 wheeler if I thought I could maneuver it through the storage facility.

You rented or do you mean you owned u-haul style of trucks?
-
I wish. No, I rented 2 of the newer GMC 26' trucks every week. We filled both of them to the ceiling. It has always been my goal to buy a 26' box truck, either a newer GMC or International, preferably with a lift gate. I was close to buying one, then Storage Wars & Auction Hunters came out and I didn't need one anymore. Once the storage auction business recovers and I can start buying more, I might invest in one.

Yeah. New would be spendy.
With all the shipping here used trucks are pretty cheap. Never looked into 26' but he average u-haul style....16 foot?....can be had for $3000-$4000 if you don't mind them beat up.
Lots of older ones for under $2000.
Always see them at auctions. Mid-2000's go for under $10k

Yeah, I thought about getting an old used one in that price range but that can be pretty scary. One little repair job could easily cost a grand or so. I think your best value are the ones that have just been retired from the rental fleets. 6-10 years old with around 250K mikes for 8-12K. Preferably one with newer tires.
