Nobody has garage sales on Wednesdays...........

Nobody has garage sales on Wednesdays...........

It was a gorgeous 50 degrees and pretty windy so I decided to blow off the auctions and set up a yard sale.

Was set up and running by 10am and shut it down at 3pm.

Total take for the day $23.

Only thing sold today was candles and toys.   Since I have it all set up I am going to run it again a few more days.

I have way to many big items I need to clear out to make room for new stuff.

The title of your thread says it all !

As for having too much stuff...welcome to the club and the answer to THAT problem is....stop buying.

We have found that Fridays are actually the best days to have yard sales, and then Sat. Sun. What happens is they buy on Fridays and then go to their local flea markets on Saturday and Sundays and sell what they have purchased from us and others of course. We still sell very well on Saturday but Friday early mornings are the best. We are only allowed 2 a year so, we make it a good one with furniture, toys, bikes, baby clothes, all types of sporting and tools, etc. We  saw and overheard one woman get on the phone and call a friend telling her "Get over here now, she's selling her whole house!"  ;)

@nkrause77,

Weather beautiful or not, people are creatures of habit. The typical yardsale days are Friday, Saturday, & Sunday. You have to build a personal clientele of customers before you can start running yard sales midweek & expect any kind of customer traffic.

Big items are perfect for Craigslist. No responseS? Drop the price and/or bundle items and/or add incentives.

Today was much worse than yesterday.  Only about ten customers all day ( I live on a busy highway) and then it picked up after work let out (after 3pm) but still much worse than yesterday.

Friday is the last day of my sale (calling for rain on Saturday) so hopefully it is a good day.

I lowered the prices on the furniture tonight as I put things away so hopefully that will give people a push to buy.

Also put together a couple large boxes of clothes ($1 each item) to let people rummage through.

Think I am also going to set up a $1 table of items I just want gone.

So, how did Friday go and if it doesn't rain today (Saturday) let us know if you sold today as well.

What were the biggest sellers all around....and the worst sellers?

Friday ended up being a pretty slow day as well.  The saving grace of the day was that we finally moved a few large items.

Woke up to rain so no sale today.

Best sellers without question was candles and toys.  Sold a few records and nobody even touched the dvd's.

Sold a good amount of halloween decorations and books went better than I thought.

We have a local facebook group for selling items and have a few people who want to come today to take a look at some more furniture so I am hopeful I get more of it sold.

I don't even look at the yard sale schedule until Thursday night, so a yard sale on Wednesday would be missed by me, and I'm thinking most people are like that. You'd have to do some pretty big advertising to get any kind of crowd. Here in San Antonio, Fridays are good for people just looking to get rid of things, because resellers (like me!) are out in force. Saturdays are a bit more casual and early in the day, prices can start higher.
