I don't unless we open with that.  However, one of the regulars that I call Mr. Five does.  He will constantly toss out $5 incremental bids depending if he wants to screw with you or not.  If it's a unit he wants he'll jump the bid in 20s or more.

I will throw out $5 bids if the stuff in the unit is of low quality or quantity so I as to not overpaying for a unit and lose out on potential profit, but the local whale has outbid me everytime.

Depends. If there are alot of auctions that day and the unit looks great and you know its going to be 1000 dollar unit I start the bid at 600.00 why waste the day. People get mad at me for doing that but ifs its a good unit nobodys get a deal if im not. Jack that bid up cause seems like everbody wants to pay retail. But by starting the uints off high keeps things moving all day.

Yea just depends on the unit it is not uncommon for units say maybe under 100 to go up in 5 dollar increments.

I know the auctioneers around here will go back and forth on $5 bids all day long, just to get as much as possible on the unit. I hope they don't go as far as taking $1-2 bids, that's when I know it has reached an all time low....

auctioneers down here won't listen to a $5 bid if its over 200 dollars.  They will say it needs to be 25.
