I recently bought a storage unit, pulled out everything that I wanted to keep and then put an ad on Craigslist under the garage sale section selling the remaining items in bulk. I had two people call in less than 30 minutes and I sold the unit to the first lady that came to see it. This is a great way to avoid having to sell the insignificant items individually.
Anyone else sell their units like this?

Well, I actually rented the unit this time since there was a lot of heavy furniture and I didn't want to move it. I just took photos of the furniture and placed ads on Craigslist. After I sold all of the furniture and removed everything valuable, I placed the final ad on Craigslist under the garage sale section. The ad went like this:

If you're a reseller looking for merchandise, I have a deal for you. I have a storage unit with lots of clothing, toys, housewares and decorations for sale in bulk. You could easily resell these items for $400-500. Contact me if interested.
I placed this ad on a Monday morning around 10:00AM. By 10:30 I had two people who wanted to come look at the unit so I took the ad down. The second caller was told that there was someone else coming to look at the merchandise and if she didn't buy it, I would contact her so she could come see it. (I like having a back up) The first lady and her husband bought the unit and cleaned it out for me.
Sometimes it's worth renting the unit just so you don't have to move anything.

I've never done a flip like that. I have sold a few units for profits to other competetion. I've also split a few units with people. It all depends on the number of units I win that day or week and what time constraints I have.
Best flip was a 5 x 10 I bought for $40 and sold for $100 at the next auction. A newbie came up to me to chat. Mentioned he liked that unit but didn't open his mouth fast enough. So I sold it to him for $100 with the condition he had 48 hours to clean it out before I put my lock on the unit. We have a week to clean units out at that location. Loved getting $60 profit just for bidding on a so/so unit.

Haven't seen this done specifically, but if there is a "good response" and willing buyers that can more than cover your
cost, I would continue.
