Storage Auctions

Have you ever partnered with another buyer just on a single locker buy ?

It's one thing to have a regular partner in a store situation (generally a bad idea IMO) and another to partner up with someone for a single locker buy at any given auction.

Have you ever done this with a buyer you know quite well?

If so, how are the goods and profits distributed?

Nope, I never let anybody get involved with my business.

I never have myself but people do around here all the time. There are two things about this. The first is  how would both parties feel equally satisfied? How could you possibly account for a true 50-50 split unless the locker was tediously priced out on every item.

The other is, if your teaming up on a single locker, its going to be obvious to any observant bidder that its happening. I love to hang out in the back to literally have the view of everyone present. Not to mention you are tipping your hand to the other bidders by saying "I don't have enough cash to own this outright".

There truly is an art to bidding as all the pros know. $5 increments? High bid at the start? Just the other day I stole a military unit for $50 bucks by doubling the $25 start. At least it felt that way.  ;)

I have not. However, I did partner with a guy because we each bought a locker that was owned by the same person. So there was a lot of trading this cushion for that dining room chair type of stuff. In the end, it worked out.

That is one heck of a good reason for a one time partnership.

I did this once on a locker full of new, boxed furniture. It was easy to split since most of the items were the same, but discovered afterwards that most of the bar stools in the unit were missing their seats  :(. The couple who I partnered with we're very fair but the deal was a bust due to the stools being incomplete. Lesson learned.
