Title: Hit my absolute biggest score of all time
Post by: auctionguy on March 23, 2015, 07:32:47 PM
Purchased a commercial mystery locker for $800.

It was an art.com supplier and had just about 20,000 museum quality lithographs.  They are small, medium and large.

Small retail is $40
Medium retail is $100
Large retail is $200

All in all it comes out to retail at around $1.2M

Ebay prices puts the small at $5, medium at $20 and large at $40.

Those prices add up to around $350k

It will probably take around 10 years to sell them all but this is the retirement locker.

Congrats, but the realist in me has to ask:

At 20,000 pieces and 10 years (120 months) to sell them, can you realistically expect to sell 160 plus pieces each month (month in and month out) to pull in those big bucks?

I would cut a deal with an auction house and move them all now. Even if you get less for them, having and investing the cash now will result in more in the end.

I don't want to damper your spirit, but you're quickly going to find out that lithographs are very hard to sell and they are going to be storing them for a long time and most likely toss most of them out.

I think it really depends on the who the artist is, the supply and demand and the subject matter.

Here's a link to someone who has other items in small, medium and large. A total of 1,000 of them I think. Maybe he would be willing to trade his for yours.

Auctionguy, have you had a chance to list any of the lithographs on eBay? If so, are they selling?
