In an average month, how much money do you think you spend in gas traveling to auctions?

Average?  $30-$40

Last month was bad.   Mostly picking and spent $120.   Brutal.    Sales didnt come close to covering expenses.
Why I try to find other things to do in the area.   Like I wanted to go to Cabela's thats way north so waited until the auctions were in that area *then* went.   If I have friends/family in the area I'll meet for lunch.

Offset the gas expense.

When I was going to every auction possible, I was spending $30-$40 a week. Now that I'm only hitting morning auctions and more local auctions, I've spent $60 in the last month. Still too high, the folks who are real close to me keep paying their bills! I've had to travel out recently about 30 miles away to hit some auctions to restock the store. Wish I had the funds to hire a part timer for afternoons!

Why not get some of the other auction buyers to bring some items to your store and charge them a commission to sell them?  They do the gathering work, they bring it to you.  You can help them set a price that will sell it and will make you some money too.

Sure, you may not want to accept items that nearly duplicate what you have, and of course your space ability needs to be considered too, but may be worth a shot.

Depending on the item you may even be able to do some kind of barter with them for stuff you have that they might want. This would rotate out old stock and bring in new...a fresh look always desireable as you know.

Many of the other auction participants either have stores already, sell at a successful yard sale or flea market, or are flakes. The guys that I did the flea market with would be the only ones that may be interested just because of the volume of stuff that they bring in, they don't have space to sell the stuff that they have in storage pods on their property. However, I wouldn't be able to unload enough to help alleviate their storage issues. The stock rotation idea is a great one! I'll have to look into that!
